you can see the investigation scene is active here behinded us. we're told it happened after 7:00 last night. 37th street and van buren. we're a block away from where that happened. officers responded to a report of that man running around in a gun and protective gear that ended up being body armor. when officers approached him, he had the gun in his hand and tried to run away. he was hiding behinded multiple barriers. at one point, using a cruiser as a she'll. and officers fired their weapon at him to neutralize him. no word how many times he was hit or fired back. four officers with at least seven years of experience, fired back at him. and as we come back here live, you can see how cars are approaching and slowing down here. this is the intersection of van buren and 36th street. if you live in this area, the only option is to turn left or north on 36th street. otherwise, you will have to turn around.

new numbers show the turnout will be big this year. brian west has more. >> reporter: it's a day you can physically show up and cast your ballot ahead of the november election. just go to one of 16 locations today bow next wednesday and that number will be up to 25 polling locations across the cupt i -- county. the maricopa county recorder said not a lot of people take victim o way to show up and physically vote in person. this s different than election day. that is when you have to go to your specific precinct location. the county recorder said all you need is your driver's license or voter i.d. card if you register to vote after 1996. before 1996, you need your voter i.d. card and times vary when you can do this at places. they open at 8 and close at 5 or 6 and for a list of times

door soon. live drive for you from the eastbound 10, 75th avenue. 51st avenue. we have some stop-and-go and it lightens up, but, still, all in all, you're going to average about 20 miles for hour taking 34 minutes for the trip and your future cast, as we fast forward to the 8:00 hour, that is when things really pick up around the valley. and so we're looking at the 10 heading west. so through chandler and 30 miles per hour and around the durango curve on eastbound, it gets slower and the 101 northbound as it just passes the 202 there in through tempe and into scottsdale, we get down to about 20 miles an hour. crystal? >> and it's wednesday. the final stretch to make it to the weekend and mother nature's going to be on our side. let's help you make plans this weekend. perhaps you're going to take the kidos out to one of the pumpkin patches. it's many and to highlight a few here, the farms and here in the valley. we'll see low 90s for a

70s for mortimer farms in duey and that is also opening day at turf paradise here and off to the races on saturday. the gates open at 11:00 and that is where we'll start to see temperatures get up into the 8s and climbing into the 90s by about 1:30. and maxing out potentially at 93 degrees on your saturday. perhaps you're going to head up to the high country and check out some of the fall colors. we're really saying goodbye to the peak of the color change section of the state. but this is getting into primetime right here in mid- october and that is where we see flagstaff, show low, places like that reaching their peak. and late this month, we'll see kingman, prescott and other areas reach the color tides and stafford and other elevations in southeastern arizona. you don't have to wait until the weekend to get in on the the fun. the fair is open today at noon. 87 degrees there and more

and there and temperatures climbing potentially maxing out at 95 degrees this afternoon. and still talking low 90s here by the time the sun is setting and trooping into the 80s there at the 8:00 hour and with some light winds. so, what is up with the atmosphere here? why no change? why the warmer-than-average weather? we can basically thank that big old giant blockade and all of the storms are riding over the top and completely bypass us here. other than a couple of clouds, that is really all we're going change on the thermometer. we're talking about a couple of degrees, though, still warmer than average. today, 95 is what we're calling the high for phoenix and gila bend. 94 for parker; 78, payson and 82 for winslow. upper 60s for flagstaff, the grand canyon at 73 degrees. the seven-day forecast is coming at you now and above average temperatures and sunshine straight up. et pretty much each and -- pretty much each and every day. why don't we break down monday.

police say they're forced to open fire on a man who was wearing a bullet proof vest and carrying a gun. nico santos is live with the latest on our top story. and good morning, nico. >> reporter: borns. we saw aps leave the scene to restore power. there were a number of customers living near the area that were without power after the shootout and some of the stray bullets hit the electrical unit. you will notice both directions and 40th street at one point were closed and are new open and the crime scene is clear. all of this happened around 7:00 last night near 37th street and van buren. they responded to 911 calls of a man roaming with a gun and some type of protective gear that turned out to bobbedy armor. he had that gun in his hand and tried to run away. the officers caught up to him and he hid behind multiple

here earlier. aps said two separate times, the man pointed his gun at officers and that is when that i fired their weapon. it's not clear how many times he was hit or if he fired back at the officers. but four officers with seven years experience, pulled the trigger and that suspect was taken to the hospital. he went through surgery and is expected to be okay. and again, open in both directions and that happened within the last few minutes and we're working to determine or get an the good news, no police officers were injured in this shooting. >> and it you. 6:33 now and light check the roads. >> and this is the u.s. 60 at priest into phoenix and heading westbound. there are more vehicles on the roadways here and that is education inning over the next hour or two and the big picture traffic, most of the east
