recreational weed. but there's a red flag right from the start. his first claim doesn't credit a source. >> colorado now leads the nation in the teen use of marijuana. >> not only could we not find facts supporting that claim, but the latest survey reported one in five teens reported using marijuana in the last month which is on par with the national average. another claim in the ad -- >> and marijuana-related traffic deaths have increased >> that statement does cite a source, colorado's highway safety department. here is what we found in its studies. last year there were 115 road deaths related to, but not necessarily caused by marijuana. compare that with the last year recreational poll was illegal, 2012, it represent as 47% increase. no, sir as high as the ad claims, but a jump nonetheless. another claim in the ad comes from denver's former mayor. >> we were prompted new money for education. denver schools got nothing. >> here is what we learned.

records. last yore alone colorado provided $24 million of marijuana tax dollars the a construction grant program for school districts. however, the denver district did not apply for those funds. a school spokesperson says the district didn't apply because the funds typically go to rural communities. so it is true the district saw none of the money. the ad also states that in one colorado hospital, 50% of newborns tested positive for marijuana. this the case over a month's span. state health workers say anecdotal limor are testing positive for thc. the pediatricians there are warning expecting mothers about the potential dangers of pot and pregnancy. >> thank you. as for the presidential election, a new nbc news, wall street journal poll shows clinton and trump both have a lead in two critical battleground states. clipton is leading trump by

point in ohio. libertarian candidate gary johnson has a 9% support in ohio. both polls were taken after sunday's presidential debate. last week we brought you team coverage from donald trump's visit to prescott valley. >> while the presidential candidate has long since left, something was left behind, and the local officials are trying to deal with it. roughly 12,000 people were in attendance at the prescott valley event center on october >> close to 200 pocket knives were confiscated by tsa and now the prescott valley police department is trying to get those knives back to their rightful owners. the event center turned the knives over to the police the day after the rally, and the officials say this is an unusual situation. >> and we're normally not even involved. it is just when the knives were taken, people were told you can pick them up at the police department. so the day after the event, i

the numbers. the latest numbers from 2014 showing that almost 29,000 deaths in the united states, and in arizona alone there were more than 1,200 that is according to the cdc. right now methadone is used to treat heroin adirection. the other problem is it is highly addictive itselfment and this can be taken by pill, as tea and it also treats pain and anxiety. the jury is out on how addictive it can be, but it seems to be less than alternatives. we spoke to someone who says it helped turn his life around. >> it is an ongoing process. i don't know if you're ever quote, unquote, fully cured. there are certain pieces that i need to put in place each day to not go back to the person i was before. a lot of that is based arounding with a father now. a lot of that is based around my faith. a lot of that is based around my work now here with my kid. there's a lot of different pieces. fitness, nutrition are a big part of it for me as well.

in jail thinking it is all gone. so i started here three and a half, a little bit more than three and a half years ago, origin allotly as a very part time educator sharing my personal story of addiction and recovery with students around the state of arizona. >> the time that i quit cold turkey was hellish. and that's not an over statement. the withdrawal symptoms from heroin, those were probably the hardest withdrawals i ever went through out of any sound. the summer of 2011 is when i used this to quit heroin. i applaud the reversal of the decision because it may have the potential to help people. it is at least open for public comment now and it is at least open for that research to occur. >> reporter: we should add that he does not condone the use of it in children, but in two months the drug enforcement

classify this drug. 12 news. >> thank you. and we're following breaking news right now out of the west valley. the area around i-10 and miller is shut down because a semi truck caught fire earlier today. the truck was carrying diesel fuel when it caught fire. the fire is out, but the officials are now checking for any possible fuel leaks. let's check in now with vanessa with more of today's hot headlines. >> thank you. right now mesa police are looking for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman. the police have re reportedly attacked a woman inside her home located near adobey and lindsey roads back on october 3. the suspect was possibly driving a gray or silver four-door sedan. if you have any information, please call mesa police. also, phoenix police investigating a drive-by shooting near 75th avenue and indian school road. it happened this afternoon, and the police say a car drove by and someone inside fired shots at the victim who was taken to the hospital.

it was everybody's darling during the olympics, but what has michael phelps been up to now that he has finished up with here in arizona? he is doing commercials. this is behind-the-scenes footage from intel. he is filming ads for the company using what he is known best for, being phs and making a pitch for intel's new faster processing computers. the commercials start airing on monday. the new trend of people dressing up as clowns and threatening people is impacting halloween all around the country. for example, the chain of goodwill stores in the bay area is taking clown costumes off

it was really special day for former 12 news anchor. she was inducted to the arizona broadcasters' hall of fame this afternoon joining the ranks of many great broadcasters across the state. we talked to her about what life is like outside the news business. >> and i miss breaking news. that was my favorite. and i miss being able to tell stories that -- where you can really make a difference yb how the viewers react. but you also miss all of your cohorts, all of -- the people you love and that you know. >> and, again, she mentioned just how much she misses her 12 news colleagues. she has a soft spot for mark curtis and bruce cooper. and our social sound-off question of the day is how does arizona rank among the happy estates in the united states? >> the answer we're ranked number 31?

hub, while our weather may be great most of the year, arizona didn't ran as highly when it comes to work environment and community. the happy estate in the country was utah. >> i thought for sure for the weather, just that we're so nice during the winter. >> it makes everyone happy. >> but bermuda, totally different story out there. new tonight we're -- we actually have pictures from were mad cowa. they were hit this morning extremely hard, winds upwards of 115 miles per hour snapping trees and taking f also flooded homes and knocked out power to more than 26, 000 people. this is the strongest hurricane to hit bermuda since fabian back in 2003, and this was an absolutely huge storm. you can see on water vapor here, i rewound it 48 hours and it is now just to the north that is bermuda. at one time the eye of this hurricane was 30-miles in diameter, absolutely huge on

hurricanes. now it is quickly moving up to the north. it will still be a fairly strong storm by saturday, and then it will weaken into a low as it moves back off towards europe. they could actually see rainfall out of this one. but here in the valley, we're just dealing with the very warm temperatures. look at october. this is october. it should be fall. almost every single day in the 90s. only three days in the 80s. today it was 95 degrees out there. extremely warm. but how are we doing as rain? 4.56 inches for the year at phoenix sky harbor. the average, we should be up over six inches of rainfall. that now means we're below average by over an inch and a half so we need to get some rain in here. unfortunately that is not going to happen anytime soon. all you're going to see is a few high clouds moving through the region. you can already see them up in the northern portion of the state. that system is impacting the pacific northwest. they're probably going to see upwards of five to 10 inches of rain by the time all is said
