water we need, will it be enough to supply the amount of people coming here? i don't know. >> reporter: here in east texas, there are plans to turn the sulfur river into a new reservoir called marvin nichols lake. >> we are here so you can see this absolutely fu underwater if the reservoir is built. >> what kind of impact does that have on the environment losing tall trees and the wildlife? >> very rich land. and so, it is a tremendous loss. >> reporter: a new reservoir would supply water to dallas and fort worth through a 130- mile long pipeline. but janice says we should use the water we have more wisely instead of billing new lakes. >> if the population of the state is going to double, don't

>> reservoirs don't create water. they simply store it. if you want texas to continue to grow, and be economically viable, you have to be sure with your water supply. but there are other ways to doubt. >> reporter: the proposed lake is 62,000 acres. we drove deep into the woods of red river county to talk to max shoemake. his family land here could end up underwater. >> how important is this land to you? walk here again. this land is not for sale at any price. >> reporter: his family has made a living here since the 1830s when it was the republic of texas. >> what would your solution for water be? >> conservation. we have plenty of water. our biggest complaint is why should we give up our land, our livelihoods, so that they can

>> how did you feel about how he felt about the land? >> it was heartbreaking. i mean, it is not only that they would potentially lose the land, but that is how they pay their bills and feed their families. >> reporter: cities are the biggest water hogs. te cities in america like frisco. this growing suburb uses a lot of water but also conserves a lot of waterment they work with homeowners showing people how to use just enough to keep the lawns green. the data has saved billions of gallons. >> because of this one weather station. >> did you think she was going to say that? >> no. >> i didn't think you were going to say that.

and expo. as people advocate for the legalization of marijuana in arizona. today was the start of the special olympics fall games themed arizona gives back. the athletes kicked off the games with an opening ceremony at skyline high school in mesa. one of the moms talked with us sharing the story of how important this program is in helping her daughter who has cerebral palsy. >> she was at pe. and, she got knocked down on accident by a and, she came home and told me that she got knocked down and she fell, but all her friends came and picked her up and they are here. they were the ones in pe that picked her up off the ground and she made friends with them because of the special olympics. >> athletes with and without disabilities will be participating in swimming, bocce ball, and softball all weekend long. what a great day.

[ laughter ] let's go out to dr. matt pace to talk about what is happening right now. it is 81 degrees out there right now. and it is almost 10:30 t >> that's the big question. that is what everyone has been asking because it has just been hot out there. no doubt about it. look at the temperature today. 96 degrees out there at phoenix sky harbor. it was warm but look what happened. just last year, it was 100 degrees for the high temperature. that's the record for this time of the year. so yeah, it shows you that it could be a little bit worse, but look at the good side of this. the low temperatures have been absolutely perfect out there. over the past month, we have really seen very nice temperatures, 67 degrees for

and tomorrow, looking almost exactly the same out there. we will start out at 67 degrees. perfect morning orgeat out and enjoy it. mostly sunny skies in the forecast. a few high clouds out there. 87 by noon. 94 degrees by the afternoon. that is our forecast high temperature. so, it is going to be warm out there. but you know what? head up to the high country. enjoy this weather. check out the temperature at the grand canyon. 84 degrees. perfect weather. it could be a little bit on the breezy side. but the rest of the high country is looking very nice as degrees. we have got gorgeous pictures in coming in from flagstaff. you want to see all the fall colors. 88 for you in camp verde. show low coming in, in the mid 70s . so a pretty nice fall afternoon. here is the big picture of what is going on. we have high pressure sitting right over arizona. that is why we have stayed so warm. but check out this system we are tracking moving into the pacific northwest. that is resulting in some very severe weather. we saw some waterspouts turn into tornadoes earlier today in oregon.

easily still see about two toe five more inches of rain coming out of this particular system. so, certainly, a powerful one, but for us again, high pressure in control of our weather. and that is why it is going the stay so warm. in fact, just a few winds will be the issue up in the high country. the next part over the next several days, expect dry weather. the average high this time of year, 89 degrees but mostly sunny skies and guys, by next friday, we are still looking at that high sitting at 95. >> we cannot get . all right. >> wow,. >> thanks a lot matt. next, the secret to family happiness. >> and coop, has his 12 sports

>> folks in western japan woke up to an amazing view this morning l check this out. people in the area of ono were able to see the castle appearing to float on a bed of clouds for the first time this year. people come from all over to see this beautiful view. >> and, the weather conditions have to be just right for the dense mist to and blanket the entire area making it look like the castle is floating in the sky. this happens only about ten times a year. and this is really cool. you can see it here in arizona too. if you head up to the grand canyon. you can see the entire grand canyon filled with fog. that only happens once or twice every ten years. it's incredible. >> wow. >> this feels so educational. it sounded pretty good. >> thanks for joining us. >> jimmy is next! >> captions by:caption colorado, llc 800-775-7838 email:
