while there's some resistance, it seems some progress is being made. >> reporter: it's kind of a holding pattern that we're seeing today. this is something we need to get used to. the fact of the matter is this battle is likely going to play out the way past battles have played out. the iraqi security forces plan to approach mosul, which is the second largest city in iraq, with a siege mentality. they're going to encircle it and wait for the proper moment to tr defenses in order to reach the center of the city and liberate it. now, this is how it's played out again in fallujah and in ramadi in past battles. this can spare some of the iraqi security forces who are trying to lay siege to mosul, but it can extend the battle for weeks or months, and it can extend the agony of the 1.2 million civilians currently in the city. now, i want to put some of the victories from yesterday in
