another person posted call himself legit said i saw a ufo driving to harkens. we are no stranger to strange lights. >> if you saw them, post them on our facebook page and we are working to find out what they are. a phoenix mother on lifetime probation for child abuse is back in jail tonight. accused of abusing two more of her children. >> the allegations are beating one of the children in the back with a tree branch wrapped in duct tape. >> team 12's monique griego is talking with the woman's daughter who was the victim of one of the original abuse allegations and what she has to say may surprise you. >> reporter: that daughter is defending her mom saying she doesn't deserve to be in jail. 37-year-old melissa nicole lloyd and 43-year-old michael

children. beating, starving, mentally torturing their nine-year-old daughter. lloyd was already on lifetime probation for abusing her oldest daughter. that daughter is speaking with us tonight. >> i want her to have her life back. >> reporter: she is now coming to her mother's defense. >> they were happy. my sisters were safe. you know. my mom had them in the church. >> reporter: lloyd's social media page is daughters. a stark contrast to the allegations laid out in court documents. in them, phoenix police say the nine-year-old was malnourished. had an untreated sore on her back and bruises and fractures. the report says the couple's nine and ten-year-old daughters told investigators have they had been beaten with a stick wrapped in duct tape an the nine-year-old was forced to eat food out of the trash.

everything is a lie. >> reporter: she has never witnessed any abuse and denies she was abused by her mother. >> it was not as severe as they made it seem. >> reporter: we called the arizona department of child safety to learn more about the family's history. they sent us a response documenting the couple's previous abuse investigations. it said in this recent case, they refused to leave the home until they were allowed to see the children. we will have the full report monique griego, 12news at 10:00. >> sad story. thank you. right now, maricopa county sheriff joe arpaio has been formally charged with criminal contempt of court. accused of criminally violating a judge's order to stop racially profiling latinos. arpaio will not be arrested or required to personally enter a plea in court. the charges carry a sentence up to six months in jail, but

unlikely the 84-year-old law man would serve any time if convicted. and tonight, community activists are saying that voters will be the true judges in the upcoming election. >> it is a red letter day for our community. arpaio has finally suffered the humiliation he has made so many other people suffer. >> arpaio's days are coming to an end whether it is the elections or the judicial system. >> arpaio's campaign manager justice department continues its efforts to influence the election for the sheriff of maricopa county. the department's actions are further attempts to sabotage sheriff arpaio in his bid for a seventh term as maricopa county sheriff. massive water bills have some on edge tonight looking for answers. >> we have already told you about the higher than normal bills in phoenix and also in

and now, people in buckeye are posting on social media saying their bills have skyrocketed hundreds of dollars and the water company will only tell them to hire a plumber and check for leaks. >> so what is going on here? kevin kennedy is in the live alert center with what we know so far. ken? >> reporter: these complaints have been going on several months. some people getting billed 500 to $600 more than moral. a city councilwoman says she has heard the complaints and is working to get everyone. jeff hancock has a water problem. according to the city of buckeye, he is using a lot. his last four bills topping $400 each. >> they say you must have a leak or somebody is stealing your water. >> reporter: the plumber confirms there is no leak. as for someone stealing his water? >> there is somebody keeping an eye on my house here all day long.

>> they say the school was placed on probation earlier this season because coach mark nolan allegedly had practice in full pads during the summer which is against aia rules and also several recruiting violations. >> what it means is notre dame prep is not eligible for the playoffs so a lot of parents think that if nolan goes, maybe the probation could be lifted. and, with the playoff selections coming up this saturday, they want it to happen fast. >> it is right now, one being punished are the kids. none of us want to be here right now. for you to be interviewing here today is devastating. that just means that once again, the adults could not come together and come up with the solution that doesn't punish the kids. >> many parents are also asking for the principal of the school to be fired as well. we are told the school has until thursday to make a decision. now, to decision 2016. donald trump's oldest son is

>> shut the car off! >> time for some more hot headlines. tonight, we are seeing dramatic dash cam video of a man opening fire on police. ohio cops say he stole a car and then led them on a four- hour man hunt. the deputy asked the suspect to stick his hands out of the car window and step out. instead, he steps out and fires six shots at the deputy who returns fire. neither of them were hurt. witnesses to a deadly te morning recall a horrifying scene and children screaming as officials rushed to try to save the victims. >> the tragedy at the thunder river rapids ride at dreamworld ranks among the world's deadliest theme park accidents on record. >> the four dead ranged in age from their early 30s to early 40s . it is still unclear if they were locals or tourists. and police in georgia are looking for a man who is suspected of starting two brush
