from iraq with the latest. matt. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. the offensive has picked up once again on the eastern side of mosul. this time by the counterterrorism forces. the elite u.s. trained unit. they're trying to push past some of the christian villages and towns they have already liberated into mosul, and word we're getting now is they're actually getting quite close to the city itself. if this fighting on the eastern side, this iraqi sur forces, are the hammer for mosul, then the shiite militias you mentioned are the an vill. they're trying to block the isis elements within the city from retreating west into syria from where they came just two years ago when they swept into northern iraq and took over all that territory. but these shiite forces are problematic. they have been implicated in the past in crimes against civilian populations in this area and the rest of iraq. while they may be seen as
