unpatriotic while others say it's freedom of expression. we want you to weigh in by going to going to god www.12news.com and taking part in our live, interactive poll. tricia hendrix is joining us from flagstaff with those behind the flag burning. >> reporter: we tracked down one of the people who gathered to burn the american flag. he is not commenting but realizes what they did is about 100 people protesting wednesday night, chanting things like dump trump from me nau campus all the way to flagstaff city hall. >> they were upset. i think they had a lot of faith and hillary and really truly believed in her and the fact that she didn't get elected for them apart. >> reporter: students with the campus newspaper recorded this

part of the protest but not the burning of the american flag. others who didn't participate are offended. >> i definitely don't think that's okay. that's just something very disrespectful. >> you don't have to support trump but you don't have to go out of your way to totally just crap on the flag. it's really rude. >> reporter: students say they think burning the american flag is disrespectful to those who have served and those still serving while others say as long as anything illegal, they should be able to exercise their constitutional rights. >> if you're going to protest our government, as long as you are doing it for the right reasons in the right way, and legally, you have every right to do that. >> reporter: we have not seen any protests in or around downtown flagstaff or here on campus. the students we spoke with are hoping some sort of unity can come from the division. and flagstaff, tricia hendrix 12news at 10:00.

it all started with a call to 911 and a woman saying a guy was rear-ended her car as she drove down thomas road near scottsville road. when the officer showed up, he took off going the wrong direction down the street. that's when he ran a red light and hit an suv, spinning it into the patrol car's path. we are told alcohol was a factor. also tonight, the city of show low is preparing to lay a phone police officer, darrin reed, to rest. he as duty on tuesday. memorial services will take place monday afternoon at the church of latter day saints in show low. the service is open to the public. ? but you don't really care for music, do you? ? >> singer, songwriter and poet leonard cohen has died at 82. he wrote his best known song

he is a member of the rock 'n roll hall of fame and the canadian born artist released his final album last month. there will be a memorial in los angeles. now to a 12news exclusive series. charlie foxtrot, arizona in crisis. >> there is an alarming spike in suicides among brave military men and women in america and here in arizona. >> william pitts joins us with the details you will only see on 12news. >> reporter: 22 veterans themselves every do -- every day and veterans in arizona are more likely to kill themselves and in other states. daniel somers was one of them. his parents have dedicated the most -- dedicated themselves to making sure other vets don't get left behind. some soldiers never come home. some soldiers come home but never leave the wharf. >> bright, vivacious, gregarious. just very intelligent.

humvee, fully exposed. >> he was going out on special forces missions while he was over there. >> when he came back the second time, after being over there for about nine months, that is when we really saw a tremendous change in him. >> reporter: >> it hurt him, physically when we would hug him. >> ? he spent two hours on the phone with his captain basically pleading not to go back. at that point, the unit should have started some kind of
