phoenix police officers are confronting a homeless woman. >> one pepper sprays her and then they start laughing and drive away but the video completely contradicts what they wrote up in the police reports. >> both officers indicted and are now under investigation again. we want to know, do you think phoenix police should fire these officers for pepper spraying the woman. go to www.12news.com to vote in your live interactive poll. >> investigative reporter wendy halloran is bringing us the latest details right now.>> corrupted this woman deserve to be sprayed? may 25, 2015, phoenix police officers responded to a trespassing call. they encountered this homeless woman and asked her to leave. she wants is a profanity laced tirade but complied with officers. both learned that the woman had a relative that lived nearby but she didn't want to go there

asleep. officer egner threatened to pepper spray her if she didn't leave. >> the sidewalk is mine. get the [ bleep ] in the yard. >> reporter: she begrudgingly does what she is told. >> no it's not. >> yes it is. >> reporter: and then officer kiana gets inmate with a woman. and then officer egner sprays her in the face. officer egner wrote in his official report that the woman stepped toward officer kiana as if to provoke him but that can be further from the truth. she did no prayed -- before she was sprayed. officer kiana re-engages her. she is yelling in pain. >> [ screaming ] >> reporter: at least one of them is chuckling at her misfortune. officer tiana leaves a parting shot. both officer written reports say they remained on the scene to offer her medical assistance but that she refused.

data from the automatic vehicle locator showed they were at the scene for eight minutes, a timeline created by investigators to establish they would have only had 40 seconds to offer her medical assistance. under the investigation, officer egner said she was violent toward him with sudden movements and yelling. and officer kiana said he doesn't trust female transients. indicted. on monday, both officers were arraigned in court. they entered into consent agreements with the arizona police officer training and served 140 hour suspensions against their certification. both are on administrative leave because of the criminal cases against them. phoenix police spokesman jonathon howard says both officers are under internal investigations for the same incident.

we are following breaking news. a fiery crash in tempe involving seven cars. sky 12 was over seven avenue a short time ago. right now, all the lanes are closed during the investigation. chance houston catching the fiery scene and tells 12news a white pickup truck flew past them on the shoulder of the road just moments before this crash. police say the driver was passing vehicles in the lane between the hov and barrier wall before he hit t traffic, hitting six other cars. medics taking the suspect and another man to the hospital. we are still trying to get the update on their conditions. we will has the latest -- the latest for you on 12 today. the other big story, a young, vibrant mesa woman killed in a horrific crash, the impact throwing her from the car. she did not have on a seatbelt at the time.

goodbyes before taking the 20- year-old off life support. as kevin kennedy shows us, suite jesse made an appearance on 12news just a few months ago talking about how beautiful life is. >> reporter: this was a young woman who loved and lived life to the fullest. she was kind, compassionate and had a smile that was absolutely contagious. unfortunately, the decision she made to not wear her seatbelt may have cost her her life. in the earlmo november 13, along the loop 202, jesse minute and three friends were coming home from a party. >> switched lanes and got scared or swerved and totally just ended in disaster. >> reporter: the car rolled several times, jesse asleep in the back seat ejected. she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. >> doesn't seem fair at all. i'm kind of upset because if

different. >> reporter: she spent five days in a medical coma with family by her bedside. >> i held her hand and prayed. i didn't really say anything because i didn't know what to say. took the injuries extreme, family saying goodbye before doctors removed her from life support. >> it was the hardest thing i have ever had to do. >> reporter: earlier this year, jesse and her mom were interviewed while they were out storm chasing. >> you are in the desert of arizona and we still have beauty here. it's great. >> reporter: an amazing day shared by a mother and daughter, a young woman who will be missed deeply. >> it has been devastating at times. sometimes anger. sometimes just breaking down crying. >> reporter: with a big smile and a bigger heart, this is the jesse they will remember. she would have been 21 on christmas eve.>> her family plans to celebrate thanksgiving and this thursday if you would

classroom. >> reporter: and then a hard working english language learner named orlando was brought into her classroom. >> he was in my reading intervention class and he tried very hard. he does not give up and i used to always tell my husband if i could adopt a kid, i would adopt a kid like him. >> reporter: during lunch hour, orlando's best friend gave her startling news. orlando was a foster child. >> i had no idea this beautiful -- fallen in love with was going up for adoption. i went home and talked to my husband about it. >> reporter: originally born in the u.s., he spent time in mexico. >> he said every night he hoped that someone would get him out of the orphanage in mexico because he knew he didn't belong there because he was an american citizen. >> reporter: he was returned to the u.s. and enrolled in a foster home and in this class.

this connection i feel was from above. >> reporter: on saturday, national adoption day, her one- time student became her son. >> he bought a pink tide, a brand-new pair of shoes, pans, i might have went in on that one. >> reporter: in a day full of celebrations, the combination of a year growing together as a family and getting to know orlando and his many talents. that is him in a recent dance troupe recital. >> he has a lot of charisma and drive. >> reporter: together, they made this video for our story. >> the kind of teacher my mom was, she was really strict. >> how do you feel about having a new dad? >> okay, i love playing video games with him and i love drawing every night with him. >> how do you feel about your mom? >> okay, this is awesome. this is a awesome question. she is really loving and caring. like she is really inspirational.>> do you remember

it's really about family and i hope it makes him feel spiritual because it really captures what christmas is really all about. we do several traditional christmas songs and tell some wonderful stories. i just want people to feel close as a family. >> with the holidays and thanksgiving coming up close, why is the holiday season something you wanted to highlight with these folks? >> i really love christmas and what christmas really is, not just the gifts but the sp the birth of christ. i love all the great christmas songs. i love all the christmas traditions, decorations and all that. i love presence. i love to give and receive and i just love all the food and just all the celebration that goes around from thanksgiving to the first of the year. that whole period of time is joyful for me. i love spending as much time as i can with my family.

to be dolly. >> you mentioned that at a time right now where it seems like there is so much division in america. what would your message be to the folks who live here in this country about how we move forward? >> it's coming up on a whole new year and it's going to certainly be a year of change but i think people are ready for change and that is all good. i think we'll as supportive as we can. i think we are great american people and if something doesn't feel right or go right, we will make sure that it is back on track. just give yourself and everybody else a chance. we've got a new president coming in and it's scary to have this much change all of a sudden but i think we have always been great and we will be greater still. >> america is still a great place to be. >> look at me.

november 30 right here on 12news. by now, you probably know about the popularity of one of the ridesharing services, uber or lyft many of you will probably take one to the airport or your family's house for thanksgiving. >> but is there a difference? it turns out there is. and it's not just about the driver but their car as well. >> reporter: it has become the norm. hopping in and uber. >> i take it at least four times a week. >> reporter: but now people are taking it to the airport, to and from work, and despite some high-profile incidents, this woman in atlanta who got a black eye after an uber driver punched her, and a charlotte man says his uber driver got violent with her for talking politics last month. we even found a website called

there are pages and pages of entries. the passengers we talked to say they feel perfectly safe. >> i have never had a bad experience. >> reporter: some frequent riders were surprised when we pointed out a big difference between the two companies. both companies do background checks but lyft alston -- often goes one step further. >> you have to do an in person interview. >> what do you think of that? >> it's pretty important. who the driver is. >> reporter: he says they also inspected his car but we also learned neither company requires drivers to take care of recalls. on average, 20% of drivers don't bother to fix the problematic car. frequent riders toles that is not something they think about. when you call for a ride, check the drivers picture, the

you get in. >> what did uber and lyft have to say? lyft says divers have a strong personal incentive to make sure their car is in a safe operating condition and in addition to a safety inspection, drivers make up continuous representation that there vehicle meets industry safety standards and all applicable state department of motor vehicle requirements of its kind. uber says it requires a 19 point vehicle inspection to be completed by a certd some very good information. right now, more people in nearly a decade -- and in nearly a decade or hitting the roadways and the airwaves thanks to the economy. this is a live look from our traffic cameras. heading into the tail end of the year, we see

mark and i spent the day at food city in avondale of the west valley. such an amazing response for that community. the way they came out, such amazing energy. >> a real feeling of community. here is the initial tally. thank you to all of you as a team. we collected 13,283 turkeys and $199,252 an track to break last year's record. >> that's crazy. at the same time last year, we had collected just over 12,000 turkeys and $181,000. the final total won't be known for a few days but you can usually expect that to double. we just want to thank everybody for being part of turkey tuesday. i know it's my favorite event and i think it's your guises as well. >> i think is the valley's
