shortly before five o'clock... just north of sergeant bluff on lewis boulevard. authorities say the semi had turned off lewis boulevard onto an entrance road into a business... a road that crosses the railroad tracksks. before it could get past the tracks... a union pacific train collided with the trailer... cutting it in half... and spilling its load of fertilizer. investigators say the truck driver had actually made a wrong turn. 3 jonathan neunaber has entered into a plea agreement with plymouth county prosecutors...

2nd degree murder in the death of his mother.our nick popham was in the courtroom as he explained *why*... and *how* he brutally killed his elderly mother. 3 jonathan neunaber sat before judge steven andreasen and the rest of the courtroom in the plymouth county courthouse... pleading guilty to two separate charges.the first is murder in the second degree and the second is willful injury-a class c offense. the charges came after neunaber beat his own mother to death with a steel pipe back in june of 2014 in their family home. following the back in june 2014 in their home. following the death of his father, he had a sudden realization to commit the crime. when dad died, i did not know what to do next. i was not prepared to be the man of the house. >> reporter: and that

after hearing the statement, the judge ruled the plea was fair. >> the court therefore finds the defendant guilty of the charge of murder in the second degree and also guilty of the charge of willful injury. >> reporter: before today, new neighbor had tried to prevent the first-degree murder arge with a defense of insanity and diminishing responsibility. he also says on the night he killed his neighbor, he tried to commit suicide with pills but failed to do so. >> i took the pills with the idea we could all be very together. obobously, that did not work. i am still here. >> reporter: as a result of this play, he could ssibly face up to 60 years in prison. >> his sentencing hearing has not been scheduled yet. that's because he still has two weeks to change his mind about

like those shown in making a murder. community college of sioux city helped kick off conference week. they hosted a screening of the documentary rosenwald. the story of a jewish man who tried to build schools for african- american students. >> the goal is to get as many people out and engaged in different subject matter. everything is about engaging, enlightening, evolving and getting people aware that we all need to work together. >> this is the 11th ear of tolerance week in sioux city. more films will be screened this week at the orpheum theater on wednesday and the arts center on thursday. sioux city fire rescue celebrated the retirement of one of their own today's captain kelly hansen retires after 31 years on the job. firefighters gathered for coffee and cake to reflect on hansen's career.

his fellow firefighters is what he is going to miss most about the job. he plans to spend his retirement traveling the country, starting and ending in the black hills. a campaign by mercy's child advocacy center to build new facilities got a boost this afternoon. sioux city police association presented the center with a check for $5000. the money goes to victims of child abuse around sioux city. it has plans for a new facility that would make its mission easier by adding interview and exam rooms. that newly expanded center will be across the street from the mercy campus. leaders say they are grateful for the police donation. a recreational runner turned pro in one of the toughest endurance competitions on the planet. >> matt hansen continues as -- as his journey of becoming an ironman takes him across the world. >> reporter: just on the name alone, the ironman triathlon suggests is one of the toughest sports in the world. many who compete have an training their entire lives to
