as a humanitarian crisis inside gaza deepens. hello. you're very welcome to "world news america." we are tracking developments in the middle east as israel warns it is intensifying attacks on the gaza strip sending more infantry and artillery. into the territory as israeli defense forces says it has freed a soldier. she said to be doing well and reunited with her family. it is the first known rescue of a hostage since hamas seized more than 200 people from israel earlier this month. these are pictures of celebration outside her home earlier at the local community welcomed her release. more than 200 hostages are still held inside gaza. on monday, hamas released a video of three.
2:33 pm
benjamin netanyahu described the video as cruel propaganda and said his government was doing all it can to bring hostages home. the bbc does not normally broadcast hostage videos but this is a still from it. left to right, you can see the three trade we don't know anything about the conditions under which the video was filmed but the three appeared to be in reasonable help with no obvious signs of injury. the video is described as distressing. many western governments designate hamas as a terrorist organization. benjamin netanyahu said it is clear to the world the u.s. stood behind israel but regardless of who stood with them, israel would fight until the battle was won and a cease-fire would not happen. >> the ground action creates the possibility of getting our hostages out.

hamas will not do it unless they are under pressure. just as the united states will not agree to a cease-fire after the bombing of pearl harbor were after the terrorist attack of 9/11, israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with hamas after the horrific attacks of october 7. calls for a cease-fire are calls for israel to surrender to hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism. that will not happen. >> this comes as israel says it is stepping up its military operations inside gaza. these are the latest pictures of explosions inside gaza as israeli airstrikes continue. israeli forces have been seen close to other city -- gaza city. video circulating online shows a car on the road destroyed by tank fire. the barrage of hamas rockets into israel continues.

hamas fired a slew of rockets. as she is re-anointed with her famil -- as she is reunited with her family, hundreds of other families are waiting. >> there is good news for one family at least. the private was rescued by the israeli army last night. she had been held in gaza since october 7. for the rest of the hostage families, the agony of waiting goes on. in the center of tel aviv, families of hostages have set up a vigil opposite the ministry of defense. these are the faces of many of those who are missing. there is a table set for a jewish sabbath dinner with empty places for those held in gaza. and along with the concern, more anger at the actions of hamas

which is powering israel's response. >> annihilate hamas. never again. you cannot butcher jews joyfully, send messages to your parents, "i killed israelis." >> after the video was released by hamas on social media, the israeli government said it was hugging the families of the hostages. but some of those families blame the prime minister and his government for not listening to their warnings about border security. in the hostage video, so does the hostage in the center. she called for a deal to free the hostages and to free palestinians and israeli jails. prime minister netanyahu's

leverage over israel. when the israelis launched the ground operation, when talks to release the hostages were still going on, they said they would not grant hamas any kind of impunity for what they have done. now by making the video, hamas has hit back with a calculated act of psychological warfare directed at the prime minister. israeli military has released video of tanks advancing into gaza. somewhere out there are the rest of the hostages. israel has declared a clear objective to wipe hamas off the face of the earth. assuming it's tanks and troops can do that, israel has not spelled out what comes next. israel continues to inflict pain and death on palestinian civilians. throughout all the wars in gaza, israel's assertions it targets hamas and not civilians have been dismissed here by

circumstances under which the video was made. it can only be assumed these are deeply traumatic circumstances and the three women presented on it where they are circumstances of extreme duress. the stinging criticism she delivered at the role of the israeli government of benjamin netanyahu cuts to the heart of some of the debates swirling around this country and have been ever since october 7. why was the government unable to prevent the attacks, the massacres, and the abductions of that day? what is the correct way to get the hostages back? is it to wage war on the mountains or do some kind of deal? clearly, many people in this country would like to see more efforts going into the latter, into some kind of negotiation that could result in the release of more than 200 hostages, even

killed. the tank spotted on the north-south road in gaza today just south of gaza city close to the point where israelis have said palestinian civilians should move south was an interesting indication perhaps of where israel is going. it may be in the coming days we will see the israelis try and cut off gaza city and the surrounding area from the rest of the gaza strip as they turn their attention to that densely populated city. we do not know how many people are left there now. the u.s. says as many as one million people have fled south but there are still a lot of civilians left in gaza city. >> thank you for that. inside gaza, the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen. the israeli army says it has hit 600 military targets in the territory in the past 24 hours and killed dozens of fighters.

we have 22 clinics and only eight are functioning. that is a testament to the brave staff that wants to support the palestinians. it has been really difficult to continue their work. what has been more challenging is to have hope for where we see things have gone beyond a lot of local military campaigns. >> we heard last week that many of your health clinics only had a day or two of fuel left to keep going. what is the latest? >> the fuel continues to be a struggle for the team. there are breaks in the logistical supply chain. the hospitals are running on fumes. the numbers we are looking at are less everyday. there is one less hospital that goes. when the military campaign, war, conflict started, there was 22 hospitals or so. now it is down to eight

hospitals functioning. some of those do not have operating rooms. we worry about the safety of folks. you think about fuel. that is energy. that is how dialysis machines and incubators are operating. they are not bringing in fuel. you think about the number of trucks they bring in. it is unfortunate because these are misleading. without the fuel, it does not matter how many food trucks are brought in. how will it be delivered? that is the heart of our plate. we want fuel so we can run the hospitals. we get water out of the ground. hospitals, health clinics, how do we get ambulances? on top of that, we talk about communication. that is a big problem right now. >> you mentioned supplies. they have confirmed thousands of people desperate, starving, scared, have broken into one of the warehouses and rated it for food and supplies.
2:50 pm
the question is raised, why were the supplies there and not with the people who needed them? >> that is a good question. my colleagues are working under difficult circumstances. we know at least 61 have been killed. 45 of our installations have been bombed. my colleagues are working hard to deliver aid. when you have 36 hours with no communication, you don't know how to coordinate. that is the problem. i feel for the people. a lot of them are my family and friends. the people are desperate. if you have a problem, there is no police force or ambulances. who is going to help? people are being reduced to just fending for themselves. that does not help anybody. it is unfortunate. i look forward to learning more about the warehouses and the situation. >> israeli prime minister netanyahu spoke today at a press conference and set a cease-fire
2:51 pm
would not happen, that israel would fight until the battle was won. what do you say to that? >> i'm going to comment on this is a palestinian with family and gaza. that does not give me any assurances. as an american citizen with a family and gaza, have many family members stuck in gaza. i worry for their safety. nobody is making it a priority to evacuate those good people. i hope a cease-fire comes for the safety of my own mother who is 71 years old. she is protecting 10 grandchildren around her. a lot of people are calling for a cease-fire. as a human being, i think that is the right thing to do. sadly, a lot of good people are struggling because there is no humanitarian calls for cease-fire. >> mr. netanyahu also said it was clear to the world the u.s. was standing behind israel and what he called the battle for civilization. what do you say to the u.s. and president biden?
2:52 pm
>> i feel not heard. that is a problem as an american citizen and somebody who votes in every election since i became a u.s. citizen. we do not feel seen by this administration. while we have a better relationship with this administration than previous ones, i do not feel seen as an american citizen. we feel victimized by this campaign and gaza for my family and here on the homefront. i hope things change because right now, it might be too late for the people of gaza but it is not too late for americans here who do not feel safe on campus, at work, and in government buildings. >> thank you very much for joining us. >> thank you. >> on monday, israel issued a
