looked at him. looked up to him for everything. he was my will model for inspiration. all i ever wanted to do was make him proud. >> the fbi says it now believes the driver behind the terror attack on bourbon street was acting alone. he posted videos online proclaiming allegiance to the islamic state group. las vegas police say there is no apparent connection linking the attack in new orleans with the explosion of a tesla cybertruck outside the trump international hotel also on new year's day. large parts of the u.k. are preparing for snow and ice as a three-day weather alert comes into force. but first, we begin with breaking news coming out of seoul in south korea. these are life pictures we have coming in from outside the president's residence. what we understand from the

local news agency is authorities are en route to the residents to execute an arrest warrant against the countries impeached president. it is a little after 7:00 a.m. in the morning in south korea. authorities said they would act on friday. it is now friday morning in the country to effect this a wretch -- this arrest warrant. what we understand as there are around 100 of his supporters who have gathered outside his residence. we continue to monitor the situation. this comes after the impeached president tried to impose martial law in south korea. that was challenged by massive protests as well as protests in parliament that led to him being impeached. we continue to monitor the situation in south korea. we will let you know what will

happen over the next few minutes. we start with some tragic testimony from the brother of one of the 14 people killed on bourbon street in new orleans -- new orleans on new year's day. jack has told the bbc about losing his best friend. many of those who died were in new orleans to celebrate the promise of the year to come. martin was a former football player at princeton university. our colleague has been speaking to his other who is himself a football player at texas christian university. >> jack, thank you for joining us. i am so sorry for your loss. how are you and your family doing today? >> we are doing all right. obviously it is pretty tough losing somebody like my brother. he was such a great person. he has so many friends. if i were to put in announcers

year's from new york for a couple weeks and he was working from home. me and him, we were hunting. he was with my family every day. we hunted, we fished. we ate more gumbo then one could possibly eat. he was cooking for us. taking naps with all of us. just hanging out. he was seeing all his friends. people he has not seen in so long. and i think god was preparing us for this moment the way he was going about it. it was just different it was the best christmas me and my family have ever had. so very little arguing. disagreeing. we have six people in my family. you know of easily it is a good bit of people to bicker at and stuff. this christmas it just felt different. he saw all those people he had not seen in years kind of like he was going on a good by tour without knowing it. and is asked friend, whenever i

left to go back up to dallas, his best friend ryan who works with him in new york came down for new year's. he wanted to show ryan new orleans. what it was all about. show ryan how much fun the people in louisiana are. the smiles they give off. he wanted to show off how great new orleans was in how great of a place it was. the food, the atmosphere, the people so him and his friend, his best friend in my parents went to dinner tuesday night. and my parents drove home back to lafayette and my brother in ryan went out. and obviously everything unfolded. >> you have been talking about the fact you spoke to your brother on the phone just hours before new year's eve.

can you tell us a bit about that conversation? >> it was another phone call. like i said, that is my best friend. my inspiration, my will model. -- my role model. we talked every day. he was the first person i told about whatever it was. good, bad and different. i talked to him so much. and we thought it was going to be another regular conversation. i was just showing him i was at my uncles house. he was with my parents in new orleans. i was showing him what we were eating. he was showing us what he was eating. the last word we told each other was i told him to be safe and i loved him and he told me how much he loved me. on the the phone and that was the last time i spoke with him. >> telus a bit more about your brother. you said he is your role model,

your baths -- your best friend. quite the football player as well. >> he was a beast in every way in life. his name was tiger and it was very fitting. he was a go-getter. he was a smaller guy, 5'8", 5'9" in from a young age, he fought. he was always a fighter. whatever it was. whether it was in sports, whether it was -- wherever it may be. in every facet come he was a fighter. it just fit him so much. like i said, he loved louisiana. he loved his family so much. his friends so much. if i re-task people to stand up if they thought they were his best friend, hundreds of people would stand up because that is the type of guy he was. he has touched so many lives and impacted so many lives. me and my family, this is something we are going to have to deal with every time we wake

up and every time we go to sleep. it is going to be something every holiday, there is going to be an empty seat at the table. he would want us to grieve and mourn. he would want us to keep attacking life. he would want us to go and do what he did. the resilient, charismatic, loving, kind. he would want us to be there for each other in all our different endeavors. he was like i said, marvel model, my families will model. my family is going to miss him so much. my mom and my dad have done such an awesome job raising me and my three siblings. we are so close, us three. so many people telus they have never seen siblings so close like this ever before. the first thing i told my parents, my family was because

was acting alone. the investigators say he rented the utility truck he used in the attack in houston, texas on the 30th of december. he drove it from houston to new orleans arriving late on new year's eve. new images released of the incident show the truck driving at high speed down bourbon street directly at the people standing in his way. a few hours before the attack, he had posted five videos on his facebook account in which he announced his support for the so-called islamic state. and isis flag was recovered from the back of the vehicle. >> there were five videos posted on his facebook account which are time stamped getting at 1:29 a.m. in the last 3:02 a.m. in the first video, he explains he originally planned to harm his family and friends but was concerned the news headlines would not focus on the war between the believers and the disbelievers. >> the fbi also said they

recovered two improvised explosive devices left in ice boxes. one on the cross section of bourbon and orleans streets in the section at an intersection two blocks away. officials now have surveillance footage that shows him placing the devices where they were found. at an address in new orleans, they are still searching for evidence. >> we know he picked up bourbon street. not quite sure why. one can assume it was lots of people, new year's eve with a target for innotech. -- for an attack. that is the stuff in the coming days as far as the path to radicalization we are going to be making a priority of. what i can tell you right now is he was 100% inspired by isis. >> u.s. authorities in las vegas say is no apparent connection linking the attack in new

orleans with the explosion of the tesla cybertruck outside the trump international hotel in the city on new year's day. even though there are some curious similarities. the dead man recovered from the vehicle has been named as matthew ellen levels burger. a 37-year-old green beret who was with the special forces. he had served in afghanistan and was on leave at the time. he crossed state lines driving the electric tesla cybertruck from colorado to nevada, recharging at various points along the way. the fbi says the vehicle was first spotted on the street early on new year's day pulling into the hotel for the first time just after 7:00 in the morning and returning to park in the valley area an hour later. it exploded 17 seconds after coming to a standstill. the agent said the man inside the tesla had shot himself before it went up in flames. >> there are a number of things in this case that are similar to the attack in new orleans. we do know that our subject here

served in the military. he is a current member of the military. both of the subjects served at fort bragg, north carolina. what we do know about that is it is a large literary base and we have no record they served in the same unit or even the same years at fort bragg. some be that continues to remain other -- under investigation. >> this update from the scene. >> both on new year's day and both people as you heard that served in the military. the perpetrator, the person leaves to have perpetrated the attack here was an active. . member you mention he was in the green beret spirit -- the green berets. that is an elite branch of the military. . at the cross over at f fort bragg. in afghanistan the year 2009. law-enforcement officials being careful about drawing any conclusions. really treating both of these incidents as separate.

we do not have a motive from law enforcement officials at this point. i think that is something so many people have questions about. one official did say something i found striking during the press conference in las vegas in an hour ago. . they said it is not lost on them this incident in las vegas took place in front of the trump hotel and it involved a tesla vehicle. the ceo of tesla of course is elon musk who has forged a close relationship with the president elect of late. he has been very visible. heading up along with the ramaswamy -- along with vivek ramaswamy cutting federal spending. his presence in the future administration has not been welcomed by all. >> 2025 is beginning with a sharp cold snap in the weather

triggering alerts for much of the u.k. snow and ice is forecast for much of the country this weekend making the clear up after recent flood damage all the more frustrating. >> most of the water has drained away so today was about starting the clear up. carolyn is a volunteer at this church and cafe in warrenton. she has seen flooding before. > this happened a few years ago and it almost ruined the building. everything was wrecked. the plaster had to be taken off. repainted. it does affect the business. it affects the church, the congregation and it is disheartening when it keeps happening. >> a few doors away, this was the scene yesterday. today the insurers are on site. have you been flooded before? >> once. 2021. >> rosita is thoroughly fed up. you have had enough. >> i have had enough. it is really stressful. >> that is it.

snow is now in the forecast. it has already covered parts of northern scotland and is expected much more widely over the weekend. a cold-weather health alert has been issued for england until next wednesday. this signals people vulnerable to the cold, usually aged over 65, may need specific checks and visits over the coming days. >> the israeli military says it has killed the head of hamas internal security forces in an airstrike on a camp for displaced people in gaza. a territory deputy chief of police was among 11 people including children who were killed. hamas has condemned the attack which is called an assassination. the attack was near the southern city of khan yunis. more from jerusalem. >> he woke up to the sound of

different track ways crisscrossed this entire site. they were discovered on the floor of a limestone quarry in oxfordshire by one of the workers. >> i was hitting a hump. >> like this here. >> it was this front bit i was hitting. when i got out and examined it, it looked like footprints. word thing about it was when you sit there, it's like i'm the first person to see them. a bit of a tingling moment really. >> the summer dig revealed 2 -- revealed 200 footprints stretching for 150 meters making it the largest tracks i ever found in the u.k. and one of the biggest in the world. the track ways were found by two types of dinosaurs. large plant eating sauropod's and a two legged dinosaur called a megalith source. they lived in a tropical lagoon.

the footprints were covered with sediment. perfectly preserving them. >> the lovely thing about a dinosaur footprint as it is a snapshot in the life of the animal. you can learn things about how the animal moved. you can learn what the environment it was living in was like. tracks give us a whole every set of information you cannot get from the bone fossil record. >> we are coming up to a dinosaur crossroads. what you have are footprints from a sauropod and you can see as it pressed down into the mud how it created this ridge here. there is a footprint from a smaller two-legged meat-eating dinosaur. it was moving in this direction. the question is which one walked through here first in scientists think it was the sauropod because you can see how one of the smaller footprints crushed down the ridge it was walking through. at the oxford university museum

of natural history, a jaw bone is one of the most precious specimens. >> the animal would have been between six and nine meters in length and in life this animal would have had these impressive serrated teeth. these were agile carnivorous predators. they were the largest predatory dinosaurs in the dressing period in britain. >> the fate of the track ways has not been decided. . the quarrying will go on for several years but paleontologists think there are more footprints, echoes of our prehistoric past just waiting to be discovered. >> stay with us on bbc news.
