sharp differences remain between barack obama and the israeli prime minister after their talks at the white house. even before he arrived, the leader had projected that the borders in place for the arab- israeli war should be the basis of peace talks. he stood his ground when he met the u.s. president today. >> this was not a meeting of like minds. his talks with israeli prime minister took place amid tense relations exacerbated a day earlier by the middle east policy speech. he called for a state with borders predating the 1967 arab- israeli war. for israel, it would mean relinquishing large parts of the west bank to the palestinians.

israel categorically reject a land-for-peace deal. he rejected the proposal calling it unacceptable. >> we are prepared to make generous compromises for peace, but we can't go back to the 1967 lines. these lines are indefensible. >> disputes happened between friends and expressed optimism that a deal would ultimately be reached. >> is possible for us to shape a deal that allows israel to secure itself, not to be vulnerable, but to also resolve what has manhattan the issue for both peoples for decades now. 7>> the solution is nowhere in sight. the sides remain at odds with how to proceed with the peace process.

program. human rights activists say the security forces shot and killed dozens of people. state television blamed the violence saying they opened fire on security forces. protests and deaths were reported across the country including a child killed in the city. after friday prayers, people streamed onto the streets. they started protest marches joined by hundreds more. thousands or tens of thousands turned out to protest. they demand and the president and the governing party give up power. security forces again resorted to deadly force. as shots are fired, the crowd scrambled for cover. witnesses report many people

killed. it is not possible to confirm those reports. rallies have been reported in the coastal cities. many are trying to flee the country. troops have been deployed along the lebanese border in a show of force. refugees still manage to get through. those that fled said security forces are terrorizing them. aid organizations are providing emergency medical treatment for those that needed. the un estimates 4000 assyrians have fled over the last few weeks. >> they have sunk a libyan vessels in the overnight air raids. the alliance says the ships have been taking part in mining operations over the past few weeks.

democracy are subservient to security interests. israelis and palestinians have been disappointed by the middle east policies. they pressured israel to uphold the construction on palestinian land. the washington brought little pressure to bear. the peace process has stagnated. the middle east on voice kept down after mediation efforts reached an impasse. the u.s. has come under pressure to avoid a serious acts click. >> materialized have to apply much more pressure. we can't afford to do that because of political concerns. we should not expect any concessions any time soon.
