president obama is expected to speak about gun laws in his upcoming state of the union address. he did touch on gun control and his weekly address just this morning. we had new numbers from southlake tahoe police about new year's eve arrest. we'll see how this compares to the last 10 years. news 4 at five starts right now. >> you're watching news 4 at five on your side in high definition. >> good evening and thank you for joining us. southlake tahoe police are releasing arrest numbers from new year's eve. police say they made a total of eight arrests between thursday morning and noon on friday. they arrested five people for intoxication, one for possession of a stun gun, one for a minor in possession of alcohol and another for trespassing. they did handout nearly 170

arrestor down from 17 arrests last new year's eve. we will show you a look at all of the numbers since 2005. they have decreased in southlake tahoe. it was a peaceful beginning to the new year in downtown reno. police say they only arrested one person as thousands gathered to watch the display under the arch. one person was arrested for being arrested in the roadway. they did say they want to take celebrating safely. secret witness is offering a $1000 reward for more information about the suspect in his napping. police say a man and woman were taken to the hospital after the reported stabbing. it happened 2:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the 300 block of view street. police are asking anyone with

are air-quality is good and we will keep an eye on that. looking at your next 24 hours we will try to get above freezing tomorrow hitting that market 36 degrees at noon. we will keep you posted. turning now to national news president obama is spending his last day of vacation in hawaii today. one issue on the top of his agenda will be the nations gun laws. the president is determined to address the nations epidemic of gun violence. why gun advocates aren't happy about this. >> last month we remember the third anniversary of newtown. this friday i will be thinking about my friend gabby giffords. five years into her recovery. >> he's putting the nations gun violence at the top of his list of unfinished business. >> the amendment is not agree too.

also the eastern portions of the state. were watching snow showers blanketing all the way from winnemucca to milwaukee. we have to split troughs and what that means is we have to separate low pressure systems and they're both going to hit the pacific, the west coast and bring a lot of moisture. we been blocking it and making that stay in the pacific and now we're going to be watching for this trough line to start moving into the area and bringing storms for the next week or so. and we know skies are clears and 26degrees with mostly cloudy conditions and no precipitation falling. 23degrees in carson city 37 in southlake tahoe. so we're going to start seeing where we have warmer temperatures in the mountains

that will impact air-quality. we will be watching for that storm system to start ahead and it's going to be like an open hose with pulses of energy flooding and and then we will see how much spillover we get because we do have southerly flow. but for tonight mostly cloudy conditions. we will reach a low of 20 degrees and it will stay below freezing. we will warm up tomorrow at 38 degrees. this is the first time we've gotten above freezing temperatures in a while. we will get back -- backup the average. it's not going to feel really cold out there. looking across the state we do have those freezing wind chills. mostly sunny conditions in elko for your sunday. temperatures reaching into the 20s. no more of those teens but we do have some single digits and

10 degrees in bridgeport. down a carson city we are watching temperatures into the teens tonight. a very cold night and that will be back on track for our normal january temperatures reaching in the 30s for tomorrow. up at the lake it's going to be a little cooler. winter going to stay out of the southeast 5 miles per hour with mostly sunny skies in susanville we will see some snow flurries potentially into the night and morning. clearing skies throughout the day tomorrow and then we are going to see temperatures really start to warm up just a little bit for the reno/sparks area. temperatures reaching 38degrees for reno and 28 down the virginia city. winter like temperatures but we've got a treat in our seven
