3 (bill)3 >> we begin with a follow up to a story we brought you on news 4 over the weekend. a suspect is now under arrest in an officer -involved shooting near virginia city. news 4's jaime hayden was the *only reporter to sit down with storey county sheriff gerald antinoro this weekend. she has our top story this morning... 3 ((sot sheriff: "thankfully everybody is alive, my deputy is going to be just fine."a storey county deputy is recovering after being shot in the back while responding to a domestic violence call saturday afternoon. the incident happened in the virginia city highlands around four-thirty. authorities say 51-year-old charles stutts allegedly fired multiple shots from a rifle ... which hit the

scene.sot sheriff: "my deputy was able to return fire, causing the perpetrator to surrender, he was taken into custody by the deputy."sheriff antinoro says stutts, the deputy and the other victim were treated for non- life-threatening injuries. he says stutts has been booked into the storey county jail on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, attempted murder, and aggravated domestic battery. sot sheriff: "don't know all the details yet, don't know what was going through the perpertators mind at the time, have a long ways to go in the investigation." sheriff antinoro says the incident was isolated.he also says this is the first time a deputy has been shot in storey county since the 1800s. the last known victim was officer humphrey symons of the gold hill city police department. officer symons was shot and killed while investigating a domestic disturbance in 1879. sot sheriff: "it's been awhile, and 3 hopefully we'll go another 100 plus years before we ever have to deal with it or worry about

3 (bill)>> that was jaime haydn reporting for us this morning...sheriff antinoro says the nevada department of public safety, investigation division has taken over the criminal investigation because his deputy was involved.the names of the deputy and the other victim in this case are not being released at this time pending further investigation. sheriff antinoro also says his deputy has been placed on routine administrative leave. 3 (samantha)>> reno police officers say they are looking for two suspects involved in a shooting early sunday morning. police say it happened just outside one -up bar in the 200 block of west commercial row... at about 3:45 a-m. officers say they found two gunshot victims when they arrived on scene.those two people were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. police say witnesses told them the suspects and the victims were arguing right before the shooting. 3 ((when officers arrived, they did find 2 victims with gunshot wounds. they were transported to renown and we're waiting for an update on their condition and the severity of their wounds. ))

weather... firefighters say icy roads caused a car to crash into a tree in downtown reno early yesterday morning.reno fire department officials say the crash happened just after 2:30 a-m... near ryland and sinclair.they say one person was removed from the two- door car... and at least two more were possibly ejected.they believe those ejected may have walked away from the scene. 3 ((it is too early to tell if alcohol was a factor. ice played a bit of a factor. when they got a little bit off the side of the road, they hit the ice and slid into the tree.))(samantha)>> fire officials on scene said they were not sure about the extent of the injuries. 3 (bill)>> a standoff continues in oregon this morning... ... where anti-government activists... including cliven bundy's sons... are occupying a federal office building at a wildlife refuge.at least one person was armed as the group of protesters took over the "malheur national wildlife refuge" saturday.. near the town of burns.that's about a six hour drive north from reno. group leaders say they are

imprisonment of two local ranchers... and what they call the-- quote-- "tyranny" of the federal government.the group is led by ammon bundy - the son of cliven bundy.that's the nevada rancher known for his 2014 standoff with federal authorities over grazing rights. 3 (bundy 05:02 when government steps outside of its bounds that the people have given it, that it is the duty of the people to put that government back in its place.)(bill)>> this latest standoff is in support of two oregon ranchers... a father and son... facing jail time for lighting fires on federal land. the two men served their five- year sentence.... but a judge ruled that time was not long enough. 3 (samantha)>> in other news.. nevada energy regulators are meeting this week to decide whether to hold off on new rates for solar power customers. those rates were supposed to take effect on january first. the changes would raise the base service charge for southern nevada solar customers from

that will bring in mine or to moderate accumulations of snow. -- minor to moderate accumulations of snow. >> thank you. in other news firefighters say icy roads caused a car to crash into a tree in downtown reno early yesterday morning. fire department officials say the crash happened just after 2:30 a.m. near sinclair. they say one person was removed from the two-door car and two more people were possibly ejected. they believe those ejected may have walked away from the scene. >> the ice played a bit of a factor when they got a little bit off the side of the road they hit the ice and slid into the tree. >> fire officials on scene told us they were not sure about the extent of the injuries of those involved. reno firefighters say the cold temperatures we've been experiencing made for a lot of calls regarding busted pipes. division chief steve leighton says crews responded to at least half a dozen incidents of burst pipes sunday alone and in the past week they've responded to more than 20 incidents.

been called out to several apartment complexes in reno, including the bluffs and sierra hall on the university of nevada campus. he subjects -- suggests keeping your heater on and home warm to avoid the pipes freezing. officials have heavenly mountain resort say an unoccupied chair fell from the chair lift yesterday morning. thankfully no one was injured when it fell from the downhill path of the north bowl chair lift around 11:00 a.m. they did have to stop operating that chair lift, though, and evacuate 65 people from it. officials say the resort has suspended north bowl chair lift operations while they look into what exactly caused the fall. well, we are in the first week of 2016 and that means a lot of people are making new year's resolutions, but all too often we set goals that we just don't finish. alex joins us live in the studio to help us out a little bit. hi, alex. >> good morning. not like you. i'm giving you a hard time this morning.

recovering from his injuries. the shooting happened around 4:30 saturday afternoon in the virginia city highlands. authorities say the deputy was responding to a domestic violence call when he was shot in the back. the suspect in the case is a 51- year-old, charles stutts, accused of firing multiple shots from a rifle which hit the deputy and another person at the scene. sheriff atinoro says his deputy was able to return fire which caused stutts to surrender. stutts, the deputy and the other victim were all treated for nonlife threatening injuries. stutts was taken into custody and is facing charges of officer. domestic battery. details yet. don't know the -- what was going through the perpetrator's mind at the time. the investigation. i would say it's an isolated incident. i believe this is the first time we've had a deputy shot

stocks opened shortly -- sharply lower. slowing global growth rekindled worries. the dow jones is down. pull that up for me again. okay, what are the -- [indiscernible] 376 down on the dow. nasdaq taking a tumble as well. we will have that for you. my computer just froze. down 117 points on the nasdaq. 384 points on the dow. all right. some of the stories making financial headlines as we start out this first trading day of 2016, the institute for supply management will release its manufacturing index for december. also the commerce department will report on construction spending for november. the u.s. forest service has begun an environmental review of nestle waters, north america's bottling operations in the san bernardino national forest. nestle was sued in october by environmental and public interest groups claiming the company is operating its

a permit that expired in 1998. the groups say the drought in california combined with the bottling operation is affecting area wildlife. nestle has applied to renew its permit and can continue to operate while that application is pending. u.s. department of justice is investigating how blue bell creameries handled the ice cream contamination linked to ten reported cases of listeria. three of those believed to be sickened by blue bell's frozen treats died. they are examining whether company executives committed wrongdoing in the handling of the outbreak. blue bell recalled all its ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and other frozen treats sold in 23 states on april 20, 2015. this after it said listeria was found on the lid of a food service cup the month before. however, an investigation by the center for disease control and prevention showed that the listeria outbreak dated back to

bringing snow showers to the sierra with very little spillover potential, although it is there. then heading into tonight and tomorrow morning, the second push of moisture, second of several i might add, starts to move in. this has a better spillover potential, may bring minor accumulations to the valley floor locations as well as of course more snow to the mountains. we'll continue to watch that one. eventually leading to more shower activity heading into the afternoon for central and eastern parts of the state. we'll get another break. then on wednesday we're watching the arrival of more moisture. three pushes of moisture in the next three days to keep annual eye on here. winter weather advisory in purple. winter storm warning in pink. just a little bit of activity out there for us. a winter storm warning. the sierra crest 10 to 20 inches of snow. then we have no advisories in reno-sparks or carson city.
