hours could bring another storm. we check in with madison. >> good evening, things are quiet for far western nevada but if you look at the california coast they're getting hit with rainfall and this storm system will hit the sierra as snow and then spill over to western nevada by t tomorrow. we could see 1-4 inches of snow on the valley floors and more above 5,000 feet and really the foothills are going to get hit hard but the possibility of seeing issues on our roadways as well. the winter storm warning, that pink, that takes effect or excuse me is in effect as of now and will remain until 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. we can see 10-16 inches possible. ski resorts get that snow that

reno is 31 right now and relative humidity at 76%. here's a quick look across northern nevada. it's in to the 30s and we'll take a closer look at this storm system and how the rest of your 7-day forecast is shaping up in just a if you minutes. and staying with weather, nevada's first snow survey is in and the numbers are encouraging after four years of drought. this morning hydrologists measured 54 inches of snow depth, which equals water content. they make our snowpack 110% of normal, a year ago snowpack was half of what it is now, just 60% of normal. however, they say we need more

many cars were stuck on the freeway and have been for hours as they continue to conduct a manhunt for him. and switching gears to a pressing national issue. officials are hearing that president obama had a sense of urgency for the list of steps he can take after the high- profile incidents of gun violence. those in favor of owning a gun have been speaking out against this executive decision and pro- gun groups say say stricter laws don't keep crime from happening. >> it violates what america stands for, that means criminals have the guns. the ones willing to violate the laws. that's why they're criminals. more laws doesn't mean a safer place to live.

announced a series of steps aimed the curbing gun violence including expanding background checks and have a federal license. in addition fbi will hire more examiners to help the background checks and modernize it and also a dealershipk the gun is responsible for reporting to police if it is lost or stolen in transit. >> it won't prevent mass shootings or keep the guns out of the hands of the criminals, it will potentially save lives. the president will be holding a televised town hall outside of the nation's capital.

welcome back, the oregon father and son ranchers convicted for setting fire to federal grazing land in 2012 have been ordered back to prison. they served short prison sentences for setting fires on federal property. they were ordered to return to prison for four years because the judge said the time they served didn't meet the minimum setting laws and that has sparked outrage from armed protesters. >> they said they'd seek clemency from president obama. >> a sea rescue off norway happened after a fishing

these scenes captured by the coast guard as they pulled 5 crew members safely from the sinking boat. a rescue helicopter hovered over the site as they were raised up and all 5 were plucked from the ocean. the boat's captain isn't sure what happened but suspects it got a net caught in the propeller. and with that let's check in with madison and let's check on a new storm. >> all right so we've got pretty quiet conditions for far western nevada but seeing heavy rainfall hitting the california coast and eventually that storm system is going to hit the sierra overnight tonight so we'll be waking up to some snow flurries an and commuter problems. we have a winter weather

sierra and some snow on the valley floors an 2-5 inches above 5,000 feet and a winter warning, and that's 12-16 inches possible above 6,000 feet. >> outside, we're sitting at 31 degrees and we've dropped below freezing and no winds and relative humidity and 76%. daytime high was 38 degrees and that's below average but we are getting closer to where we should be the morning low is below average as well. and around the area, we have dropped down to the 20s and south lake tahoe sitting right at that freezing mark and we'll continue to cool down and

pressure system pushing through northern california and then northern nevada. we're going to start to see heavy snowfall and then the passes will see issues so check road conditions and that snow will spill into far western nevada and scattered snow and a mix of rain throughout the day across northern nevada. tonight, down to 30 degrees, and cloudy skies and then showers after midnight with light winds. tomorrow, 40 degrees with snow showers and 1-4 inches and most of the snow in the foothills. and in eastern nevada, scattered showers and in the mid 30s. and then warmer here in the

as we head to carson city, it's different. 2-4-inch of snow possible for carson city with that daytime high looking to reach 39 degrees. around the lakes, winds pick up and 3-7 inches and wind gusts. and that's a ridge gust with this storm system. up north a mix of rain and snow with these highs, and with winds out of the southeast at 5- 10 miles per hour and on the valley floor it's the upper 20s and then tomorrow daytime highs the upper 30s to lower 40s, so that's giving us a chance for rain and snow. and again that possibility of 1- 4 inches in the foothills and they'll be impacted. >> extended forecast, going to see these showers, or these storms, lingering throughout the week and looking at reno
