3 (samantha)>> staying with local weather .. nevada's first snow survey of the year is in ... and the numbers are nothing but encouraging ....after four years of drought. hydrologists with the natural resources conservation service measured 54 inches of snow depth yesterday morning. that equals fifteen point nine inches of water content at the mount rose summit.hydrologists say those numbers make our snowpack one-hundred and ten percent of normal for this time of year. a year ago ... snowpack in the area was nearly half of what it is now ... at just 60 percent of normal.however ... hydroglogists say we'll need a lot more snow to help our water supply this year. 3 ((like last year we ran out of water in the reservoirs early, and that was why the river was down to historic lows, given the time of year early in the summer and farmers were forced to shut off and even the

>> it looked foggy. >> it did. it was foggy and hard to see the mountains for a bit as it was spilling over. that was the first wave of moisture of about four days. today is a bigger wave of moisture. so we're talking better spillover potential, accumulating snow on the valley floor, perhaps, and good accumulations in the mountains. it will possibly spill over during your morning commute today. really good spillover potential for no showers. ridge gusts topping -- ridge tops gusting up to about 95 or so miles per hour. on radar, snow showing up. not quite to the east.

looks like reno-sparks is trying to get going. it kind of skips over the far western portion of nevada, that's the shadowing effect and then comes back if you head east of pyramid lake down through places like lovelock and fallon. mix of rain and snow with icing possible showing up on radar at the moment. today is is the best potential for spillover snow to make its way down to the valley locations in far western nevada especially during the morning hours. breaking apart in the afternoon and evening into the sierra. by tonight, break for the overnight hours, another round arrives tomorrow with less spillover potential than today. we'll continue to see snow shower activity heading into thursday as well. a few more rounds of moisture to go, but this is definitely the

. welcome back. nevada's first snow survey of the year is in and is the numbers are encouraging after four years of drought. yesterday hydrologists measured 54 inches of snow depth, 15.9 inches of water content. those numbers make our snowpack 110% of normal for this time of year. a year ago snowpack in the sierra was nearly half of what

we're going to need a lot more to help our water supply this year. >> like last year, we ran out of water in the reservoirs early. and that's why the river was down to historic lows, given the time of year, early in the summer. and so farmers were forced to shut off, even the municipal supply was taxed heavily. >> of course most of our region's precip comes between october and march in the form of snowfall. so if there isn't a good snowpack by april 1st, experts say water supplies will be short again this year. we're hoping that is not the case. >> the good news is it sounds like more storms are continuing to roll in. we'll keep our fingers crossed that they go through april. it sounds like the sierra is getting more snow. >> it is. today, tomorrow, the next day.

we could see snow falling on the morning commute, which may mean tough roads if it comes to fruition. >> do you remember last year when a storm would can come in, even if it was just a little storm that brought a few inches, we were so excited. >> we went, like, six, seven weeks with nothing. so every once in a while we got a small storm and it felt like a jackpot. for me, that's all i've known since i moved here. i've only been here coming up on three years. so it feels way busier this season as compared to the last two, which of course it is. but we're only 10% above normal, which is great. good compared to the last few years, but close to normal. but it's really beneficial, nonetheless. 40 degrees in reno for the high today. good chance for spillover snow showers, could include a couple
