snowstorms a bit of unique sight around reno tonight thick fog settling in here's the look outside at our station on vaster street through the fog as you can see the situation. conditions a little tricky on the roads with the fog and being slick with the cold temperatures as well. so definitely take it easy if you do have to drive. let's check in forecaster madison corney who has our first look at the forecast. it's quite an eerie sight out this madison. >> it really is joe. we can't use our sky cams they are completely covered with fog. earlier tonight we had a foggy sight of downtown reno. that's going remain the story throughout the evening. so we do have a freezing fog advisory that was just issued after 10:00 tonight and will remain in effect until 9:00 al tomorrow. that's going to be this green shaded area on your map here. so reno sparks all the way out into fallon love lock if you're driving up into the foothills

reports of very low visibility. driving home offer anywhere tonight early tomorrow morning is definitely going to be tricky and low visibility is not the only issue. black ice this entire area on this map here is seeing problems with black ice tonight. we also have a winter storm warning that's taking effect tomorrow morning in that pink shaded area 55 to 10 inches of snow possible above 4,000 feet that is going to spill over into far western nevada tomorrow as well. quite a bit of weather still making its way in tonight and tomorrow. live doppler radar things are quiet elko seeing snow showers tonight local viewing area last hour we've seen some isolated storms to the east of fallon. we're expecting that to be clear for the night but we do have more moving in early tomorrow morning. here's a quick look at that freezing mark right now in reno. no win to speak of relative humidity at 92%. that freezing fog sticking

look at your full forecast coming up in a few moments. a tour bus slid off a national park. the crash occurred on high 41 at the bus was exiting the park heading for los angeles. there were 54 passengers onboard. one person suffered a minor injury but everyone else did make it off the bus safely. north korea is putting the rest of the world on edge tonight with word of a nuclear test that was strong enough to cause a slice myck event. the televised north korean statement confirmed it was a hydrogen bomb test. the u.s. geological survey measured the incident at magnitude 5..1. south korea's foreign ministry held emergency meeting after reports of the seismic disturbance. three previous nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013 were all conducted in that region. several people have

call recently asking for donations to firefighters's fund is it legitimate. where this call is coming from and why you should be aware before ever hahning over any money. >>reporter: joe, one of our direct oregon a call today from a local 775 number asking for money to help children burned in fires. it's a plea that really pulls at your heartstrings, but in this on your side report i found the charity spends much more money asking for money than it does actually helping burn victims. even local firefighters are getting this phone call. they are asked to donate to a burn fund so reno firefighters have asked the caller two questions. >> one of the things they asked what is their 5' 1c3 number as well as solicitation to donation ratio is and several who asked that question have been hung up on. >>reporter: it reyes eyebrows at the reno firefighters association. vice-president tom dunn says it could be a fraudulent phone

>> we were notified right around the first week of december of a phone solicitation going on with a group that are change to be the associated firefighters burn fund. >>reporter: the calls are still making the rounds. news 4 directer got the call on tuesday and was given a toll free number. i traced it back to the association for firefighters and paramedics. it's based in santa ana, california. the afp web site says its mission is to help survivors of catastrophic fires. in 2009 watch dog group charity navigator ranked afp as one of top inefficient charities in the country. its 2013 record shows afp operates solely on donations of $1.5 million. yet it spent 96% on fundraising and administrative costs, only 3% was spent on the program itself to help fire survivors.

dunn says the calls in our area aren't affiliated with any professional fire agencies in the state. >> none of our solicitations are done over the phone. >>reporter: to top it off charity navigator shows the president of afp takes 6% as compensation so that's about $94,000 a year. all companies sliting donations in nevada are required to register with the nevada secretary of state office. if you feel that you've been scammed or a call may be fraudulent you are asked to call the secretary of state and local law enforcement. local firefighters association donates to a list of vetted funds and foundations including the international association of firefighters. so definitely do your research first joe. >> interesting to see where that money is really going. thanks. a 6 hour stand off with

peacefully when the suspect surrendered. daniel enriquez surrendered at 1:00 a home. they removed three other people from that home an hour earlier. rocky triplet said shortly after the incident began enriquez made statements about wanting to shoot at police officers. police say he was armed with a handgun. authorities say he was also a suspect in a shooting that happened at the gold dust west casino in late december and robbery of a reno grocery store. reno police officials say two teens are behind bars after an alleged armed robbery. reno police officers responded to an early morning call of an apparent armed robbery at jackson chevron. officials say after the two suspects pointed a bb gun at the clerk demanding money they tried fleeing the scene with the cash. they were able to detain suspects. those suspects 18-year-old

old juvenile now face charges of armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance. more on tonight's crime watch. two sun valley women are behind bars tonight they are suspected of child neglect and animal cruelty. washoe county she was officials say 61-year-old kathleen dean and 41-year-old jolene dean welfare check. deputies say they found hazardous living conditions for three children between the ages of 11 and 14 there. the children energy the care of services. animal control officers reportedly found dozens of animals on the property ranging from dogs cats to birds the animals are being cared for by regional animal services. the 20 year-old woman that was end of life court battle has been pronounced dead at a local hospital.

woman aden hailu passed away to apparent respiratory failure she was located it st. mary's regional center on life support. they have let to comment on the death. her father lost a court case that showed she would not recover. controversy writing assignment is prompting an apology from school officials before we show you the image we want to warn you it's a little bit alarming to see. the picture is actually a painting entitled a tale of two hoodies. the artist bills himself as one of the most controversial in the world it definitely evoked strong emotions from parent who complain it's offensive and sends the wrong wrong message and inappropriate for high school students. lyon county superintendent wayne workman learned about this earlier today. he says it's a personnel issue he could not say a whole lot about the teacher involved or

workman quickly and promptly apologized though to parents and students. >> the first thing that we would want to say the to the parents is that we hope that they would accept our sincereest apology for the offensive nature of the picture the message reflected in there no way is consistent with our views in regard to law enforcement. >> workman says this is an isolated case. he also says the district is now working to ensure that something like this does not happen again. switching queers now the first major retail near 30 years may soon be coming to downtown reno. a midtown and downtown reno developer tells news 4 he signed a letter of intent to lease the first floor of the former post office to a national retail chain. parts of the letter of intent includes a nondisclose you are agreement though that prevents him from confirming the name of the chain. however there are a few rumors

and more . a local talk radio host and former chairman of the washoe county democratic party has announced he is setting his sights on a congressional seat. this morning chip evans formally announced his plans to challenge second district republican mark amodei. evans is a former high tech executive from silicon valley. that seat in congress has never been held by a democrat. president obama today issued executive orders to

background checks on many more gun sales in our nation. steve handlesman has details and reaction from the white house tonight. >>reporter: president obama ordering the changes was cheered by gun control act visits. >> because people are dying. >>reporter: and he gotti emotional wiping aw tears sighting the mass shootings at columbine virginia tech and sandy hook elementary. >> every time i think about those kids it gets me mad. >> he is ordering more background checks hiring more fbi examiner's to do them 24/7 and many gun shows now no background checking is required for so-called private sales. same on the internet in many states. from now on the obama order says if you're in the business of selling guns you must do background checks. support from hillary clinton. >> i called for soft those measures a couple of months ago. >>reporter: support from the mother of reporter allison parker whose killer passed his check and bought his gun legally.

got 33 elsewhere. so really hovering at that freezing mark and helping out the freezing fog which is not out there tonight. those roads. now the freezing fog advisory is in effect for this green shaded area on your map here and that is going to remain into effect until 9:00 a.m. problems with low visit and then black ice. we have a winter storm warning that will take effect tomorrow morning pink shaded area on this map west of lake tahoe. we're looking to see 5 to 10 inches of snow possible there in that area that would be above 4,000 feet. we're just going to see that spill over around the lake tomorrow and into far western nevada. anything on the valley floors tomorrow really less than an inch of accumulation possible there. live doppler radar far western nevada quiet tonight but we are seeing shower in elko county tonight few isolated showers to the east of fallon earlier this evening.

quick look 32 degrees no wind to speak of and relative humidity at 92% and of course that freezing fox sticking around. official daytime high in reno reached 38 degrees still below average for this time of year but definitely getting closer to where we should be. that morning low actually at 27 degrees a lot of that cloud cover helped outlast night. that will not be the case this evening. not a whole lot of cloud cover out there with that freezing fog we are going to see some interesting conditions tomorrow morning. we're watching this low pressure system exit the region tonight and then another storm system hits tomorrow. so as we put your future cast in motion this is the next hour we're looking at far western nevada as far as any precip goes pretty cheer but as we put things in motion by 5:00 a.m. we'll see that rainfall making its way through sacramento and turning to snow and hitting sierra by 8:00 app. for far western nevada the morning commute really only going to be the early morning commute going to be affected by the reduced visibility with

precip to spill over until about the noon hour and then we're expecting some scattered showers throughout the afternoon and evening as we saw today. now tonight in reno sparks we're looking to get down to 26 degrees freezing fog and black ice on the road sticking around throughout the nature tonight into early tomorrow morning with tomorrow's daytime high reaching 35 degrees. we're looking at cloudy skies and snow showers possible with light winds. the trend across the region for daytime highs overnight lows we're looking at daytime highs in the mid 30s for the most part and overnight lows in the 20s. however we do have a few places making their way down into the teens like bridgeport and mammoth lake the lower 20s for carson city and tomorrow's daytime high reaching 36 degrees. around the lake we are expecting lake level 2 to 4- inch of new snow accumulation tomorrow with this next system making its way in. further up north to susanville a application of snow and rain 1 to 3 inches up north there and then again on the valley floor for reno an sparks less than half an inch accumulation

. >> high school hoops are in full swing before news 4 kicks off hometown hoops this friday we thought we'd show highlights. lady lancers hosted miners and after three quick paces indicate indicates he turner turns on the wheels pineers up 10. take you knee henderson she nails a triple. is he warren pulls up behind the arc to make it 51-35. the miners were smooth turner drops in 2 she finishes the night with a cool 22 points. the miners win 66-46 on the road. after the ladies it was the boys turn. again miners against the lancers lancer inside pass picked off mitch woods the bounce pass to brandon conception that was good. mcqueen pulls it together garrett gets the tray.

had pops the bread and peanut butter there's the jam. okay taste yan corely. this game would go into overtime. the lancers winning 72 to 69. nevada men's basketball team broke a 2 game losing streak on saturday with a win over wyoming. now they return to road for showdown with fresno state. alex margulies has this report. >>reporter: there's just about one thing you can count on when nevada fresno state get together it's a close highly contested game look at all the overtime games in the last couple of seasons. head coach eric must man can't appreciate he hasn't been a part of all these close games against fresno state he certainly expects a big challenge for nevada when they head down to the central valley. >> fresno state can really score the basketball. you know i think that they obviously going into unlv winning a game they are as talented as any team in the mountain west they are the most experienced family in the conference.

event organizers thought of the events. >> we're just another human being when we come in we know it's for these kids we are something special and so it's important for us to get back to the community. when i was in camps when i was a kid i learned something from it. i know it's important for us as players to give back. >> they are having a good time when you're learning and having fun it makes it that much better we want to do something provide something for the community the kids can come out and enjoy. and the big horns are all about the community. so, this is one of the cornerstones of what we're trying to do. >> following monday night's win over rio grande valley the big horns head to the bay area for the nba showcase which will be held by the warriors in santa cruz. the 19 game showcase runs over 5 days and features every team in the league. attended by nba gms and player personnel it will give players a chance to show he deserve a shot at the next level.
