911, but he was in the water for about a half hour. and we are just learning tonight that david bowie has died. his website says he died peacefully surrounded by family after a battle with cancer. while many of you may share in his loss, we ask you respect the family's privacy. he just turned 69 two days ago. to the local weather, we may be getting a break from some stories, let's check in with kathy for a first look at the forecast. >> we're starting off on a quiet note, high pressure is moving in, and will keep things clear, and cold. the pacific has not calmed down, and we are watching for a small wave of moisture to bring showers to the sierra on wednesday. the good news is that even though we have high pressure building, the temperatures are not going to drop off that much. today was a mellow day, and wednesday relatively calm.

but right now, it's 36 degrees in reno, with slight wind from the south/southeast. air quality is good, and we do have that green burn code, so taking a look at your 24 hour forecast, it will be a cold start to your monday morning, but the sun will warm thing up slightly. i'll have the full forecast coming up. >> thanks, kathy. president obama rolled out a series of legislature to close loopholes. the difference between an expect of executive action and executive order. >> reporter: on his first day of his last year in office, president obama called on congress to take action on gun control. we know we can't stop every act of violence, but what if we tried to stop one. >> reporter: the media and politicians went into overdrive. >> the president of the united states may come out before an executive order. >> the president to lay out a

violence. saga of el chapo, took a new turn today. role stone publish ad interview that guzman reportedly did with sean penn, who says he secretly met him in october. penn said they met face to face with a mexican actress. he wrote that el chapo supplies "mother heroin, meth, cocaine, and marijuana than anybody else in the world." and mexico officials say the interview helped them locate and capture el chapo.

a and list says 77% of the -- analysts say 77% of the u.s. is paying less. taking a look at the local gas prices, the average price in nevada is $2.50, with prices as low as $2.34 in reno, and $2.09 in carson city. if you're thinking of taking a road trip, it sounds like the next few days might be the best time to do it. we'll send it over to kathy, and we're getting a break from the snow? >> that's right, olivia, skies are quiet, and all across the state, nothing is falling, and that's the first time for a while. and that's what we have going on. we have the high pressure that is building over the state, and we're watching for the necking in, but the high pressure -- next wave moving in.

sierra, and potentially coming down to the valley floor, but right after that, that high pressure is going to build right back. the right now in reno, 34, calm winds. relative humidity at 70%. and around the area, a very cold temperatures in tahoe, south lake tahoe and truckee, 14 degrees. 29 degrees in fallon, and freezing in carson city. your forecast for tonight, chilly 22 degrees, with partly cloudy skies. we do see a little more cloud cover out there right now. but that will dissipate throughout the day, or throughout the night, as the wind shift from the east to the south. we'll be watching the wind shift tomorrow, and die down, and become pretty calm. we're going to get above freezing to 42 tomorrow, with some sunshine in the way, into the afternoon. moving across the state, we are watching for morning freezing fog out near elko. calm winds and some sunshine when things warm up, that will break up, but it's going to take

the overnight low, negative 1 in elko, negative 4 in erie. it's a cold night on the eastern sierra as well. single digits for bridgeport and mammoth lakes. we're going to watch for the morning fog as this cloud cover breaks away. we have dry air kind of purposing out the clouds -- punching out the cloud, that will create fog can foggy conditions for carson city. mid-40s for the region, tahoe, same story with the fog, mostly towards truckee, and ski air valleys -- sierra valleys, and the sunshine to light up the day. temperatures reaching into the mid-30s, everywhere, and 42 degrees in glenn brook, cold overnight, 22 degrees and then some teens out there, and low 20s for the most part.
