handle a large lump of -- crash. good evening. thank you for joining us for this special edition of prime time. after a string of deadly violence camed the lives of two people -- claimed the lives of two people, the community is coming to. the community met talked about forming a neighborhood watch program and what the city and police are doing to keep them safe. here's the details. >> reporter: in december alone three separate shootings happened in or around the pat baker park area. two teens were killed by gunfire. tonight, police chief jason soto and councilman delgado met with the community and said they are adding more lightand

area. we can expect those changes in the next few months. neighbors spoke about taking ownership of this neighborhood, including the family of myra rodriquez killed in a drive-by shooting down the street. >> we want people to speak up. at the end of the day, we do know they are concerned because of their safety, for their safety, but we're wanting to get justice for our sister. she meant so much to us. >> reporter: the rodriguez family is urging the communethy tonight to take spons -- community tonight to take responsibility and if they have any information 0 on rodriguez's murder, they are number. in other news, for the final time as commander-in- chief, president obama delivered his state of the speaking on capitol hill tonight, the president urged americans to reject the

take a look. 36 degrees for reno with the winds out of the south at about 3 miles per hour and mostly cloudy skies and we're going to continue to see that cloud cover but first, here is a look at current temperatures across the region. another very cold night in eastern nevada. 8 degrees in elko. 4 in eureka and then fallon in the upper 20s. but those temperatures will continue to cool off especially in eastern nevada tonight. on satellite and radar we're watching this winter storm begin to hit northern california and by early tomorrow morning, it's going to hit the sierra, turn to snow and spill over into far western nevada. >> we have a winter weather advisory that will take effect at 1:00 a.m. tomorrow morning and remain in effect until 7:00 tomorrow evening and that is for the sierra and parts of far western nevada. and we are looking at some snowfall, not the biggest storm we've seen but here is a look at some of those snow totals tomorrow. for the western northbound valleys 0 to 1 inches.

snow at no accumulation. the sierra looking to see the most with this storm. anywhere from 6 to 12 inches. would we'll -- we'll take a much closer look at this storm system and when it is expected to the hit area. back to you. >> thank you. john kasich stopped in reno as part of his national campaign tour. the ohio governor touched on the country's current budget issue and told supporters that because he was able to balance ohio 'budget as governor, he says he can do the same thing for america. the gop candidate also covered president obama's recent executive order and he said he felt the president had overstepped his bounds. he also questioned obama's plan to close down guantanamo bay. >> the fact he's closing down guantanamo bay, i don't think we should shut it down. i don't then under what -- understand what this is about. >> this comes a few days before he's scheduled to debate in south carolina.

republicans who qualified for the main stage event on thursday. a navy pilot was forced to eject from his plane before it crashed in northern nevada this morning of it happened around 8:30 in a remote mountain area, about 90 miles east of reno. officials at the naval air station in fallon say rescue crews recovered the pilot after the fa-18-a hornet went down. the pilot, who is not identifieds is being evaluated for injuries at a hospital. navy said a safety investigation is planned to determine the cause of the crash. on tonight's crime watch, a second arrest has been made in a 12-year-old homicide cold case. the humboldt county sheriff's office and the mojave county sheriff's office have arrested this man, james allen melendez. he's charged with being an accessory to open murder and conspiracy to hide evidence in the murder of james erwin.

with the wind out of the south at 3 miles an hour. cloudy conditions. it will stay that way for the rest of your seven-day forecast. around the area right now, the lower 40s in truckee. that is actually -- we have valley inversion. some of the lake area is warmer than the valleys and that is due to the high pressure that we've seen but we do have that winter storm making its way in. wind will pick up, push out that bad air, we've had reduced air quality as well. this shm will clean us out we're looking to see rain and snow. the winter weather advisory takes effect at 1:00 a.m. in the sierra and parts of nevada remain in effect. we could see 3 to 8 inches of snow above 5500 feet. we're going to see that cloud cover and then early tomorrow morning by 1:00 a.m. we start to see a little bit of snow in the sierra and then by 7:00 a.m., we really have that moderate snowfall all along the sierra and then eventually spilling over into far western nevada.

snow depending upon the time of day. tomorrow morning we'll see that slushy stuff. and then as the afternoon hits we'll start to see more rain than anything else. on future cast we're also concerned about the winds tomorrow. high-profile vehicles through washoe valley are not gonna have an easy time. probably not going to be allowed to drive through the area. we have gusts it through the valleys at about 30, 40 miles per hour with ridge gusts up to 80 to 100 miles per hour. so very high winds with this storm system moving in but that's going to help us out with the reduced air quality over the last few days. in reno and sparks, down to 36. mostly cloudy skies. we could see the rain after about 4:00 and the winds at about 5, 10 miles an hour before they pick up and start to gust upwards to 30 miles an hour with that mix of rain hand snow. our daytime high for reno and sparks up to 46 degrees. eastern nevada also has a chance for snowshowers with daytime highs in the upper 30s to the lower 40s and overnight lows in the teens and 20s. some places in the single digits.

freezing mark and then reaching the lower 50s. we're looking to see more rain for the fallon and hawthorne areas tomorrow. carson city, 34 tonight and then up to 43 tomorrow. a myth of snow and rain and -- mix of snow and rain and gusty conditions. at lake level we can start to talk about accumulation of snow. about 2, 4 inches. gusty conditions and the daytime highs in the mid- to upper 30s with south lake tahoe topping out at 38. up north, more warm daytime highs, in the mid- to upper 40s there. a lot of rain there and then on the valley we're overnight lows in the 30s and the highs in the 40s. we are is the extended forecast. there is a chance for precipitation every single day on this seven-day forecast for you. majority of that snow will be hitting around the lake. as you can see, these daytime highs are a lot warmer with the system. upper 30s to lower 40s. that gives us the slushy stuff we've been talking about. it depends upon the time of

well, raider fans, listen up. it seems as if the squad will remain in oakland. the team officially withdrew the request to relocate to los angeles. earlier today, the six-owner relocation committee recommended a joint initiative between the raiders and chargers. that would see the club share a $1.7 billion stadium in carson, california. however, the proposal didn't receive the 24 of 32 votes

so the club did reach agreement, though, on the st. louis rams. in working with tandem to the chargers to locate to inglewood, california. it's unclear where the team will play with the proposed stadium still a few years away from competition. it was announced that joe wei ddland has been traded to the raiders. the 25-year-old pitcher spent most of the last season with trip-a oklahoma city going 10-5 in 22 games. he also made two starts for the domers with an era of 8.31. today's trade leaves the dodgers with 39 players 0en their roster. and wolf pac ended the weekend with a win against air force academy. currently, the pack is sitting
