3 (samantha)3 >> a string of deadly violence in a north east reno neighborhood is prompting action from city leaders and neighbors.(bill)>> three separate shootings happened in the span of 30 days near pat baker park last month. two young people were killed by gunfire.(samantha)>> news 4's van tieu was at a community meeting last night.. and spoke to one of the victims' family. it's this morning's "on your side" report.. 3 (( mayra rodriguez was just 19 years old. studying social work at tmcc. she aspired to help victims of crime. unfortunately, she became a victim of one of these senseless crimes.her sister says mayra was at a house party when a group of unvited guests fired shots into the house- killing her. the suspects still on the loose. "she was our everything. she was literally the light in the room. the light- our sunlight." and mayra isn't the only young life lost. a 16 year old boy was shot dead- at the hands of a 15-year old.stand upthese shootings happened in or

area. now the city of reno is looking to make some direct changes here. including adding more lights, and security cameras. and community action officers to patrol the area. eventually, it will invest about 450 thousand dollars into this parknat police chief jason soto and councilman oscar delgado led a community meeting tuesday night. soto says there used to be a designated officer for the area, which helped decrease crime. but when the economy took a downturn, that position was eliminated, and crime ticked back up.he says the city has just recruited 16 new police officers. the first time in 6 years. neighbors also rallied for a neighborhood watch program. and one theme that resonated: taking ownership of their neighborhood and children. "just saying we all need to take responsiblity for our community and how do we do that? "the rodriguez family says they see fear taking hold of the community. witnesses who may be afraid of
