when we got here at 5:00 this morning, it wasn't that cold, it was a little chilly but not too bad. over the past hour, it's been extremely cold compared to when we first got out here. that's what caused the problems on the roadways, they get colder. the snow on the roads overnight, it will start to morning goes on. we're driving on 80 to get here to rob drive. the sooner we got over to rob drive, that's when we started to see more snow and ice on the freeway. the big concern for drivers is going to be these side streets as you're pulling out of your complex, you're pulling out of your neighborhood trying to get on that freeway, trying to get to work or wherever it is you're going. i want you to be aware and cautious roads will be slippery. we saw one car spin out this morning. they were fine, they gained control again. it is slick. while there aren't chain controls to get out of the

gold ranch as well as in truckee, if you're going to be handing over the summit make sure you double-check before you get out there, make sure you have your chains if you plan on skiing or snowboarding, take it slow and take it easy and be safe this morning. reporting live, back to you. on the crime watch, reno police are investigating reports of shots fired earlier last night on bringly avenue on pepper mill. residents were asked to stay inside while police were searching the area, one person was taken into custody as part of that investigation. in more crime news, carson city sheriff's detectives have put a man behind bars. jacob huntman was taken on charges for accessory to murder and other felonies.

carson city. carson city sheriff deputies say that the investigation is ongoing and they're asking for the public's help for any information in that case. the number to call is at the bottom of your screen. they're adding more guards and training officers how to use rubber bullets to end the shootings behind bars. the board of state prison commissioners. the state is facing lawsuits over prison shootings including one in high state prison where it left a prisoner dead. they want to reduce the need for lethal force but it is a life saving last resort. olivia gives us the first look at the new app called my rpd. >> reporter: here's this platform untapped locally, we want to have a presence there. >> we use our smartphones to communicate with each other every day.

how the spacecraft [ opening bell on the stock ex change ] a rough situation on wall street this morning, the market has been open 14 minutes and it actually touched below 16,000 on the dow, it has come up a little bit. look at the numbers, dow jones currently down 360 points and nasdaq down 2.5%, 112 points as well. here's some of the stories making financial headlines, a busy day in washington, there's three government reports due out today.

good morning to you, the snow we saw overnight last night has come to an end for almost everyone across the area. we're going to start a drier trend for the day. talk it easy out there on your morning commute today. 47 in town -- 3, and gusts could be higher than that. we're seeing mostly to partly cloudy skies, now, that the snow has come to an end, it will clear out. where there are wet and snow covered roads, they're going to stay that way and icy for the next couple of hours until the sun helps us get going and check this out, the snow came through during the overnight and early-morning hours. it petered out as we moved off to the south. we're looking at dry at this point for the rest of the day. that's how it looks on futurecast, the rest of date looking dry. >> by the time we got to tonight, the next round of moisture starts to arrive
