this custody tonight. caesar craig-jones was booked on several charges. after setting up a perimeter, officers were able to capture and arrest him. no one was injured, and lieutenant shaw says no other suspects are being pursued at this time. it's unclear what led to the shooting. a sugar bowl ski instructor is missing after never making it home on thursday. deputies say 23-year-old carson may was reported early this morning. deputies and the tahoe nordic team have narrowed the search for may to the backside of sugar bowl ski resort. he was last seen wearing blue columbia jacket, bright green pants, and a blue helmet. slick roads should be a concern for area drivers this weekend as another winter storm hits the region. you can help prevent crashes on

news 4 caught up with a driving instructor, and he says the way you brake, accelerate, and steer are important. but the most vital step is pace. a driver should allow themselves three to four seconds on dry roads. how much time do you need on winter weather? >> add slick and wet conditions, add time and a half or double. >> in order to tell how many seconds you have between the two vehicle, find a sign on the road, and once the car in front of you passes it, count until you reach the same sign. kathy wilson joins us with the latest on this winter storm. >> well, we do have an

effect for the tahoe basin. and rain and snow showers are falling this evening. then we're tracking a big storm to impact your holiday. but the sierra avalanche center has issued a back county avalanche warning for most of the tahoe basin. dangerous on slopes steerp than 30 degrees -- steeper than 30 degrees. and this is in effect until 7:00 am saturday. looking at today, we reached a high of 44 degrees. a little bit below average. on par with the overnight night staying above freezing. around the region, we're gonna see these temperatures continue to stay above average. in reno 39 degrees. calm winds and relative

snow showers trying to make their way down. mostly rain right now in the next 24 hours. we're watching for rain showers to linger around into tomorrow morning. warming up to a nice 50 degrees for tomorrow with sunshine peaking out in the afternoon. the [ coughing ] of a man who died in a car crash this morning is unknown tonight. the crash happened near sun valley boulevard and arapahoe drive at 6:15 this morning. it appears the driver failed to stop at a sign, crossed the boulevard, and came to rest in a ditch. driver was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. the washoe county medical examiner is working to determine what killed the driver. if you witnessed this crash,

searching for missing marines after two military helicopters collided overnight off the coast of hawaii. choppers were performing a routine night training flight when they went off. civilians contacted the coast guard that they saw the choppers flying and saw a fireball in the ocean. poor weather conditions including high winds and is big waves have made the search process difficult in the 7-mile debris field. >> it wasn't a part of any operation. this is preplanned and routine nighttime flying. so the squadron is based here, they know the course rules and how to approach the runway. there's nothing that i've seen personally that was out of the ordinary. >> investigators are on-scene. the public is invited to throw some strikes or gutter balls at the national bowling

the charity foundation amplify life. tickets are $20 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. proceeds will benefit those with special needs in our community. plus the 44th annual district basketball hoops shoot contest is happening tomorrow morning. each partant representing four different northern nevada areas have been in this competition since november of last year. those wishing to see some of the youngest basketball competitors can head over to wooster high school at 9:00. >> watching some snow showers and rain across the region right now. we'll zoom into reno looking down on the valley floor. what we're concerned with here is the pink and the purple. that's the freezing rain and sleet. and that's where we'll see some more messy conditions. mostly rain is just falling in

fade away. cloud cover is gonna give way. clear skies for most of the afternoon and is evening. and another storm is gonna hit the siary by sunday afternoon. bringing rain and is snow down to the valley floor. until wednesday. tonight we are watching that rain and snow falling. 35 degrees. above freezing. turning to snow more toward the morning hours and back into rain as the system leaves the area. a breezy day for tomorrow. southwesterly winds with gusts up to 35 miles an hour. snow showers will fall for the eastern portion of the state tomorrow with temperatures reaching just above freezing, 36 degrees for eureka.

17 degrees round mountain. mostly upper 20s to 30s for the most part. and is a big warmup for the day tomorrow. 53 in fallon, 54 in hawthorn. then the rain and snow impacting carson city, mostly snow in the morning and turning to rain as things warm up. we are watching a lot of wet weather associated with the systems for the next few days. most of it will be rain or heavy wet snow. tomorrow gusts up to the 40s on the valley floor. gusty conditions for tomorrow. rain showers for the morning
