evening and thank you for joining us. topping our news tonight, a 16- year-old boy from sparks has been sentenced to 30 years for fatally stabbing his neighbor. carlos antonio montoya was charged as an adult with second- degree murder. he plead -- pled guilty in october for killing brian marshall. he must serve a minimum of 12 years before being eligible for parole. prosecutors say the van 15-year- old was suspected of stabbing marshall in the chest in september 2014. hospital. montoya told investigators he mocked him. the stabbing happened before a change in state law that automatically charges juveniles -- juveniles as adults in murder cages. now juveniles between 13-16 must be tried as adults. the energy. they say they were lured into

tomorrow at six. we will have a 5:00 news show followed by nbc nightly news before the debate starts and another newscast in prime time directly following the debate. >> it sounds like carly fiorina might have to bring an umbrella tomorrow. here's a look outside. let's get a first check on your weather with kathy wilson. we might get some rain tomorrow.>> reporter: a winter weather advisory has been issued for the greater lake tahoe region. echoes into effect tomorrow afternoon. with that, we'll see some rain down on the valley floor with snow reaching upwards of a foot at the highest elevations. the big story here is wind gust. gusty conditions on the valley floor with 100 mph gusts at the crest of the sierra today. we reached a high of 57, 11 degrees above average for this time of year, only 10 degrees below that record high set in 2011. look at that, what a warm january day.

it is located on the reno campus. the american lung association is honoring and owner of the peppermill casino. bill pagan eddie is being recognized for their green initiatives at the casino. officials say the peppermill has dedicated time and money to create a clean, healthy air initiative including their newly developed clean-air program. it removes more than 123,000 including their newly developed clean-air program. it removes more than 123,000 ft.3 per minute of smoke laden air from the casino floor.>> i think the american lung association knows it is out of context for a casino to go this above and beyond. they reached out to the family to see if they would be willing to be honored. they are a very humble, private family. they don't like to talk about themselves a lot, but they are very proud of what they've done here.>> officials also say the peppermill is the only property in the nation to have an on- site geothermal system.

it was a warm welcome back. two men behind bars tonight, accused of trying to help isis. the court documents do not say how the two men met. one thought he was helping the other get to syria. they took great pains to cover their tracks even from their families. the man they turned two to help was working for the fbi.>> reporter: neighbors in this quiet woodbridge cul-de-sac were stunned to see fbi agents friday in force at this house.>> we saw a bunch of cars rolled in. we saw a lot of people coming out. they went to their door, they said they had a warrant. everyone was scratching their head. nobody knew what was going on. >> reporter: documents say

their neighbor, mohammed al hossein. he is accused of helping another woodbridge man, joseph hassan farouk, make an exit to syria to fight with isis. the documents say they were eagles -- eager to get farouk on the battlefield. the man was actually a confidential informant for the fbi. on friday, l hassan drove farouk in a cab to a site a mile away from that international airport. farouk take a different cab the rest of the way. he planned to fly from richmond to chicago then to jordan and make his way to syria. once he approached his gate, agents arrested him. l hassan had driven back to woodbridge. is neighbors are still reeling knowing someone so close to them was accused of having anything to do with isis.>> i would chat with him once in a while, very nice guy. all the people in their house,

am monday with snow showers lingering the rest of the area. radar right now. it won't be that way for long. what we have going on here is we have this long stream of moisture feeding into the northern portion of the state. look at that, that is how it will continue to bring moisture into the area for the next coming days or so. breather period. in the next wave of moisture will feed in tuesday and again on friday. right now in reno, 35 degrees, calm wins. we saw very heavy winds today. gusty conditions. they will pick back up tomorrow. for right now into the evening, you should be 30 calm out there around the area. temperatures are starting to fall, 28 degrees in south lake tahoe, 25 and truckee, 36 in carson city. your future cast in motion as we track this sunday score as it moves in.

to start to fall in the sierra sunday evening. around 8 pm, as the storm starts to break away, we will see a blanket of snow in the eastern portion of the state. trickling rain showers and rain in the sierra. those showers will not let up in the higher elevations for the next 24-48 hours. then another impulsive energy comes in tuesday. tonight, 36 degrees, increasing cloud cover overnight. winds will continue to die down and stay calm then pick right back up, ramping up to those wind gusts of 25 mph. a daytime high of 55 degrees before the storm system rolls in. those temperatures will stay with us for a little bit longer. looking across the state, we are watching for overnight lows to drop below freezing for the eastern portion of the state. we are watching for 26 degrees in battle mountain and in some rain and snow by 4 pm tomorrow with southeasterly winds around five miles per hour. down to the eastern sierra,

bridgeport and mammoth by 2 pm. the rain showers for the central portion of the state, temperatures reaching into the mid to upper 50s. still that springlike weather feeling back in january. cloudy conditions will keep those it's -- skies calm throughout the day. a daytime high of 53 in carson city. mid-50s all around the map. a chillier night tonight in tahoe with temperatures dropping below freezing. things will start off as snow for the most part tomorrow, some rain showers as things warm-up, then dropping back to snow. we will be lingering around that freezing line for the most part, but we will see around 12- 14 inches of snow at the highest elevations. that rain will start falling by
