know, not bad. it wasn't that cold. and when the sun came out, it sure felt warmer. the winds picked up. doppler radar, we'll show you a few showers way out east on 80 and then to the west of us, and this is pretty much over for now, we're going to have a two- daybreak with another system following this same el nino track as the last one so it is not a cold storm, but it will bring more snow and dangerous driving conditions on friday night into saturday over the crest of the sierra. so keep that in mind if you have plans. overall the rainfall is over for tonight, and you can see the scattered showers and light snow flurries still banging up sierra. we're at 53. carson city is at 50 and you guys are at 54 that is not bad. the seven-day nobs -- numbers are coming up soon. stay with us. >> it sounds good. thank you, colin. the weather is not cooperating, unfortunately, in

up at the sugar bowl ski reouter l. sort. we join terri hendry on the latest ongoing efforts. it is not looking good at this point. >> reporter: joe, it has been a disappointments. you can see what the conditions are like here. we just learned moments ago that they have now suspended the search for the 23-year-old carson may. he was a ski instructor here at sugar bowl and he went missing last thursday. he was reported missing on friday, so that was 24 hours later. the crew sac been scouring an area north of the lift which is where i am at, but there has been no trace of him. today about 40 search and rescue team members faced rain, snow and high winds. the weather kept aircraft from searching the area as well. while they hoped the rain lessened the avalanche risk, it has not at all. it is more dangerous for rescue workers. there is an area where they

from may's cell phone that was last friday, but they have not been able to search that area because of the avalanche risk. >> you have to realize that we have the snow and the ice and the rain. conditions. this is the worst scenario we could come up with when it comes to a lost person. >> reporter: it has been six days since carson may went missing and we just learned moments ago that they have suspended that search. so we'll have much more for you tonight at 5:00 and i hope you will join us then. a sad day on the mountain here. reporting live from the sugar bowl resort. i'm terri hendry. back to you. >> thank you for the report. the reno-tahoe airport is introducing a new travel option for the community. ride share opportunities are now able to provide pick-up and drop-off services for those looking to fly. the service is set to benefit 3.4 million passengers each year to look for transportation options to and from the airport.

we want to know, do you support the airport's decision to allow ride sharing services? there is still plenty of time to vote. you'll find the web poll on our home page and we'll have updated results throughout our evening newscast tonight. a federal appeals court is siding with the u.s. go in a decades old legal battle over livestock grazing rights in nevada. in addition to overturning an earlier ruling, the ninth circuit court of appeals strongly admonished a reno judge for abusing his power and manager. the court ruled that the family was guilty of trespassing cattle on federal land. the appellate court also decided that the federal judge robert jones had no basis in finding the forest employees in contempt of court for doing their jobs. and new recycling bins being deliver police department the sparks area are causing some confusion for residents. the cans look like the current trash cans northern nevadans already have, but they are

their lids are blue instead of green and are only used for recyclable items. this includes paper, cardboard, empty glass bottles and jars as and tin cans. the carts have been a success in reno and it is time to lead the way to a greener spot. the times. a lot of cities have been doing 1990s. reno implemented it in 2014 and it was a wonderful success for those residents. so sparks' con stitch wents begged for it and their elected officials voted to implement this program in they community. >> they are not for trash, and you will get fined if you mix garbage and recyclable items. the program offered at the university of nevada school of medicine is getting national attention now for being the best weight loss diet in the nation. the h. m. r. weight management

one in u.s. news and world report west diets of 2016. the program offers a personalized meal and exercise plan for every person, and you don't have to be a student at the university. the clients work with doctors to review their progress and change routines when necessary. you can see the whole story on this coming up at 6:00 as news 4 speaks with a success story from the program. gas prices continue to drop nationwide and here locally, but how long can we expect all of this to last? news 4 checked with some experts. the nevada petroleum marketers expects gas to continue to drop within the next two weeks. he says it all depends on the price of crude oil, supply and a few other factors. as of today, regular gas costs an average of $2.50 a gallon in reno. according to aaa, coming up on news 4 at 5:00, we'll tell you how much he expects gas to drop. here is a quick list of some of

cosco in reno is $2.29. gas in carson city is at $1.79. and smith in gardnerville is at $2.06. the nevada humane society is celebrating after getting a check for $25,000 today. the donation comes from don weir's reno dodge dealership which is donating cash for every new car sold last month. the car company offered either a free pet adoption or a $250 december. it added up to $25,000. >> and when i got the phone call just a few days ago that we were going to the a check presentation and they were donating this money to us, i asked how much? and i was flabbergasted. we're so thrilled and so honored and so proud because $25,000 is a lot of money. money. don weir presented the check along with the sheriff from the

information, log on to welcome back. the internal revenue service announced the 2016 income tax filing season is open. and it expects more than 150 million to file returns this year. the good news for procrastinators, you have until monday april 18 tot file your 2015 tax return. that is because the emancipation day holiday falls on friday, april 15th, but the irs recommends taxpayers plan ahead and utilize the tools on the irs.gov web site. the agency is also providing additional measures for online filing. and if your smart phone is an iphone 6 s. or plus and your battery percentage isn't updating, you're in the alone.

time on the device manually or change time zones when you're traveling, you may notice the battery percentage doesn't update. it is look ing into the cause and the solution, but here is what you can do for now. first, restart your iphone and then go to settings, general, dit and time and make sure set automatically is turned on. if the battery percentage continues to fail and you didn't change the time or the time zone, you can contact apple support. and with so many breeches into our identities, consumer groups are always looking for ways to help. we talked with one of these organizations that says simply monitoring your credit may not be enough. >> reporter: it is called freezing your credit. it is not new, but when the u.s. public interest group suggested consumers consider this as a way to protect their identities in this report, it caught our attention. >> why would you only want to detect a new account being opened in your name when there is a way to actually prevent it

>> reporter: there are three main credit reporting agencies and we have told you for years how you can monitor your credit by getting a free credit report from them, but that may not stop somebody from opening up new, fraudulent accounts in your name. >> the only thing that credit monitoring does at its best is let you know after the fact whether somebody has opened a new account in your name. >> reporter: putting a freeze on your credit cay last as long as you like and you won't get dinged for it. there is a cost associated with it depending on your state. kit be between $3 and $10 to freeze your credit and another $2 to $1 to unfreeze. say, when you need a new line of credit or a loan for a house or a car. the credit reporting agency wants you to remember you have got to lift the freeze before you need the new line of credit. and you don't need too much time, though. the longest it could take is three days. but our experience and understanding is that it can happen on line within 15 minutes.

freeze won't stop bad guys from stealing your personal information that is already out there, such as existing credit cards and accounts, it can stop criminals from opening new accounts. >> all right. lots of rain and snow this morning, but things have cleared up a bit. our chief meteorologist colin jackson joins us now with a complete look at the forecast. coul ?in. >> thank you. today was a repeat of yesterday. morning rain, afternoon sun, and there goes the storm that affected weather in all areas this morning. the next one is lined up in the exact same position as this one was yesterday. so here is our break. a mixed bag of clouds and sun. tomorrow should be a gorgeous day for getting out and doing anything really. the temperatures are still running around 10 degrees above average for highs today. here is the latest loop. it is really zipping through here quickly. here is reno and there are the scattered showers remaining. so not a big worry for us. our high today was 56. 10 degrees above average. nice.

standard for this time of the year and that is still right around average. highs today we're good. mid 50s on the west side of the state and to the east it was 35 with scattered flurries as well. the california temperatures were nice, too. low 60s in san francisco. right now we sit at 53. the winds are west at 15. we did have gusty winds, but they were not too hazardous unless you were driving south. obviously most places are still warm for this time of year. the cooler spot is at the lake. 37 for south lake and for truckee as well so other numbers regional, not bad. no 50s. we can do this that is not cold. the winds still up 10 to 15 miles per hour from the southwest and those wind also be with us for the most part as we get ready for the next storm. the next round comes through on friday night into saturday morning. so here is the future clouds and radar. everything comes to an end tonight. we get a break on wednesday and thursday.

changes arrive really early, really early on the west side of the state of california, and then we'll zip you ahead to morning. the snow will return and it will be an interesting day in the tahoe area. down to 32. so a light freeze tonight or light freeze, i should say. 52 tomorrow. not as windy. partly cloudy a gorgeous day. and get out there and enjoy it. tomorrow. 36 in mcdermott. 22 is the low. elko is the same. 34 is the high. how about fallin at 51. and lovelock at 48. hawthorn at 52. overnight lows at recount mountain, 14. 25 at bishop. mammoth lake will be cold as well. okay. 51 in dayton. carson city drops off to 31. 29 and then 49 in spots. so that will be a cold overnight, but, again, not much wind tomorrow. these lie high also be nice at the lake.

a low of 23. and how about this, this is nice. susanville, 44. and sutcliffe, 49. the lows to the mid 30s the depending upon where you are for a freezing mark. 49 will be the high tomorrow. and 29 in verde and 49 is the high. seven-day forecast numbers are here. there is that big rainfall chance again on friday into saturday. 90% tapering off saturday morning. the same pattern for south lake tahoe but the snow chances will last through most of the day on saturday and the seven-day forecast for our region, reno- sparks, not bad. oh, more rain and snow. get out there. get shredding. joe, back to you. >> it sounds good. thank you, colin. the crises call center face as growing challenge to meet the needs in our community on a daily basis, and joining us this afternoon is the deputy director for the crises call center. thank you for coming in again. thank you. >> thank you for having me. >> give us an idea of how many calls you receive on a daily,

the fact of the matter is we have a really high volume of calls that come into the center. last year we had over 0, 000 calls, which averages out to well over 100 a day. >> amazing. >> and what do most people need when they're reaching out. >> that is a great question. the most common topics covered are relationship problems with family or friends or physical or mental health. i think what is important about that is these are issues that anyone could have in their lifetime. i think these are things that are not out of the ordinary. they're crises that the ordinary person faces in their life. >> and with that kind of call volume what is the biggest challenge to meet that demand? >> i think the biggest challenge is when we don't have a resource to offer somebody, so if someone calls in because they need services and they're in a rural area and those services don't exist, it can be very difficult for our staff and volunteers. they really feel like they're

that person who is calling in. that can be very difficult. >> you were say nag a growing number of the calls were coming in through texts now? >> that is right. last year we had about 25%. sorry. of our contacts were via text, what happened is great about that is that is population of people who probably would not reach out to us otherwise, so young people, people who might be nervous about calling ton phone. they contact us via text and that service. >> and maybe the most important message if somebody is sort of teetering and not sure if they could reach out, call, get help, what would you recommend for somebody? >> they should always contact us, absolutely. if somebody is in need, they should contact us. we always, always want to talk to people. and i think that something good always comes of that. >> and i know you rely on volunteers a lot and are just going through some volunteer training to bring some new volunteers on board? >> that's right investment a volunteer training now and our
