sharing company also be able to pick up passengers a the reno- tahoe international airport. just announced today, that includes the companies like uber and lift. and news 4 is at the airport with all of the details on this. >> reporter: well, joe, as you recall, ride sharing companies like uber have been operating in reno-sparks since about september. so since then they have been offering rides around town, including dropping off here at the airport, but picking up passengers at the airport when they i lived here wasn't an option. but today the airport officials say that is going to change. they say that they have conceded operating permits for transportation network companies to drop off and pick up at the airport. as you said, starting tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., ride sharing drivers will have to meet the same guidelines as taxi cab drivers. they have to have the same type of technological equipment that will track drivers when they

of the airport for security reasons. each driver will have to get a permit to be able to pick up here. the ride sharing pick-up also be located north of baggage claim, several yards away from where the taxi cab drivers pick up now. the airport officials say this will benefit more than three million passenger whose travel through this airport each year, so providing another option for ground transportation for those travelers. so the officials plan a press conference tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with airport officials and officials from uber, and as -- and as a sort of way to celebrate this new service here at the airport, the ceo mora as well as the mascots from nevada will be the first passengers to use the service tomorrow. reporting live from the reno- tahoe international airport, news 4. back to you. thank you. and that brings us to tonight's web poll question. we would like to know do you support the airport's decision to allow ride sharing services?

68% of you say yes and 32% say no. still plenty of time to vote on this, and you'll now find the web poll on our krnv news 4 facebook page, so check it out there. the plaster county sheriff's office has suspended the search for a missing skier at the sugar bowl resort. the weather hampered efforts all day long making for dangerous conditions for the searchers. about 40 members of the search and rescue team were out looking for carson may. this is the sixth day since he was last seen skiing on his day off on thursday, almost a week ago he was reported missing on friday some 24 hours later. sergeant dave hunt says there is an area where they were able to pick up a ping from may's cell phone last friday, but they have not been able to reach that area because of the avalanche risk. >> it is unfortunate. we'd certainly like to get in there, but at this point we can't go back there. our searchers, we can't put

>> there's so much refibbed product that it is -- refined product that it is being offered at these ridiculously low prices. >> reporter: it costs an average of $2.50 a gallon in reno according to aaa. down eight cents from last week. and this is basically because of the oil price of crude oil continuing to drop. >> reporter: so how low could gas get in washoe county. peter krueger with the convenience store association expects it to drop at least another dime within the next 10 days. >> yes, my guys are telling me and public information that we see out there that we could expect 10 to 12-cents, probably bottoming out. >> reporter: krueger also says it is hard to predict how long it will stay in that range, but he has an idea. >> unless there is some like major market influence and -- that supply dried up or something like that or there was some international

talking, you know, early spring, which, to me, means march. we could see these prices go for another, say, 60 days is what i'm being told. >> for example, according to gas buddy, the cheapest gas in reno is $2.29 per gallon at cosco as of tuesday. so, according to krueger, within a week and a half, gas at cosco could go down to $2.17 a gallon. and stay in that range until march. >> and we can expect to see the $2.15 to $2.20 a gallon price until there's a change in the price of a barrel of oil. >> reporter: gas prices vary in every county and the story was based off of reno prices. so if you're trying to figure out how much you could soon be paying for a gal. of gas, just sub tract about 12- cents from -- subtract about 1 cents from what you say new and you can expect it to last for about two months. here is a quick list of some of

with our stormy winter weather we have been having lately. a question saying after the past few storms, i-80 between fernly and reno has been an icy disaster, she says. she says she has heard that ndot has not been sanding the interstate. she wants to know if that is true. if it is, she is concerned. here is a look at what it looked like on i-80. this is actually back after a storm in november. we checked over at ndot about this and she says they have an 11-person crew responsible for maintaining i-80 from the nevada-california state line on out to usa parkway. they also have a nine-person crew responsible to maintaining the parkway east to the u.s. 95 junction. then when storms hit, the crews break into two separate 1-hour shifts to cover snow removal 24 hours a day. here are some more numbers just to illustrate this if you want to digest these numbers. between december 1 and now, the two maintenance crews have

all right, from weight loss to the weather, a lot to talk about today with plenty of rain and snow in up ther elevations. chief meteorologist colin jackson joins us with a full look at the forecast. colin, welcome to the biggest little city! you have had a lot to do these last two days. >> you could have said so much more coming up. a weight loss story to me, and speaking of someone who can lose a few pounds, rite? >> oh, no! >> you could have done it. >> thank you, shelby. we have known each other for more than 20 years, so i was expecting something more abusive than ignoring it. overall we have a shower system that is ending, and we get a couple of days off and then we get ready for the next one. rainfall totals, since january 1, .66. we received .16 today so we're a little bit below average, therefore, a deficit of .03 for the year that is okay. we have lots of snow. the truckee river will be running like crazy. the kayaking season will be great yeah wait the see it. 56s with our high today.

37 the low this morning. both categories more than 10 degrees above average. 60 degrees in sacramento. 62 in san francisco. so it was a warm day to our west and convenient in the eastern part of our state, that is okay. so we sit at 49 now as of 6:18. the winds are west at 10. partly cloudy. the moon is out. gorgeous views tonight of the mountains with that moon shining. reno, 49. 42346 carson city. we've got upper 30s in truckee and south lake tahoe. the numbers running about the same as last night. convenient to the east, the temperatures are not that cold. it is 36. and temperatures up and down the valley floor are consistent. mid 40s. the winds are trying to calm down, but this does not change much since 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00, so we still have gusty winds in reno at 14, 15 miles per hour sustained. rain comes to an end. we'll have a mixed bag of cloud and sun tomorrow and then we wait for the next one so this system dissipates.

ben carson to suspend the republican presidential candidate ben carson has suspended his campaign event through tomorrow because the campaign volunteer died in a a spokesperson. says the campaign van carrying three volunteers and a staffer hit a patch of ice, flipped on its side and was then hit by another vehicle. one of the volunteers was taken to a trauma center in omaha where they later died. carson flew to omaha to be with the victim's family. the other volunteers and

being checked out at a hospital tonight. the senate is expected to vote on the house passed syrian refugee program bill this week. the bill is called the american security against foreign enemies. >> the national correspondent looks at why one house democrat says the bill is mostly misunderstood. >> reporter: strong headlines ahead of last year's house vote on the syrian and iraqi refugees program drew criticism from one democrat who sided with the republicans on that vote. >> this piece of legislation in particular has not been well understood and has been described generally by the media, no disrespect intended that is something -- as something very different from what it was. it didn't limit the number of refugees, didn't put up any barriers preventing them from coming in. >> reporter: but it does say refugees cannot be admitted until this occurs, the fbi director, the homeland security

the health department says normally lead testing recommended for kids up to age 5, but they had expanded it because of the flint water crises. >> the added burden of lead in water has been detrimental to the community and we want to make sure that the kids get tested because we do have case management services available if we identify kids with elevated lead levels. >> now, the health department says they expect to host more events like this one in flint as the water crises continues. the cdc is recommending some pregnant women should get screened for the virus, and the mosquito-bourn virus has recently been linked to an increase in birth defects. it causes babies to be born brains. the cdc says the women who recently traveled to areas where the virus is active and should be tested. and the virus is spreading this parts of latin america and the rico.

helmets that are on the market and we're finding we're seeing significant improvements in the force compared to the current helmets that are available today. >> reporter: the whole product was created with inputt from doctors, engineers and athletes. >> now we have a company with 25 employees. there's a helmet that is ready for starting manufacturerring. >> reporter: if it passes a final safety test, they hope to have nfl and college athletes using the helmet as soon as the 2016 season. event ally they plan to make it available for aft athletes of all ages, in every sport that require as helmet. >> and they continue to advance the technology. earlier this year we did a story at the galena high school. they have tracking devices in their helmets. the coach cans track and see if there has been kind of a hit that maybe is a little too hard and they can check on them. it is good that they're finning to try to do these things. >> it is so hard, especially a football. i love their brains the way they are. >> it is a tough decision for parents now.
