a lot of snow was falling in central nevada which was a nice treat. take a look at this voter sentiment from virginia city. this was a very wet, brainy event that we saw. with that we had 10 pages of storm reports that i weeded through to find some snow totals because this was mostly a wind and rain event. 16 inches up at mt. rose, 10 for mammoth, and eight down in squaw valley. we do have another storm rolling through and this one is going to bring more wind and more travel impacts. we are talking about mostly snow for this event and i will have your full forecast of what you can expect with the timing on that coming out -- up. snow was starting to fall as we

for the snow system to impact all day on sunday. 38 in reno with clear skies and partly sunny conditions. the winds are calm, 3 miles per hour out of the west. air quality is good so we do have that green and taking a look at your next 24 hours, we will see some lingering snow showers tonight and by midday tomorrow is when we will see the brunt of this winter storm bringing 2 to 4 inches of snow down to the valley floor and maybe up to 8 inches in some of the higher elevations around the valley with upwards of 1 foot of snow. i will have that all timed out for you. olivia? some good news for the years long drought in northern nevada. the truckee river is surging to its highest peak since 2012. were joined live in downtown reno and jamie, how is the river looking tonight?

flowing pretty well in many of us have seen the last few years the truckee river has barely trickled and take a look at it now . it's flowing pretty well. the national weather service reports the truckee river in reno peaked nearly 8 feet this morning and flood stage is 11 feet which is not anticipated today. because of the high water rate the reno police department has been out all day along the river talking to homeless who live among -- along the banks. they've may contact with about 20 people that have cam set up along the banks. some of those camps are now underwater and officers are telling the homeless are options which include going over to the overflow shelter plus giving them a heads up that we can expect an increase this weekend and river flow. >> we want people to be informed. there are those who camp along the river. we don't want to see them

>> reporter: lake tahoe gained nearly 8,000,000,000 gallons of water from the storm we just had yesterday and today. they also say all river basins in the region are above average at this time which is great to hear but again if you are going to be down by the river or in any type of area the reno police department wants to remind everyone to stay safe out there and expected increase in water flow. live in downtown reno, and jamie heat, news 4. to >> turning to local crime a pedestrian died early this morning in a hit-and-run crash. police say it happened just before 6 am in reno. officers believe the 55-year- old man was illegally crossing the street when a fast driving vehicle hit him. they say that driver did not have their headlights on but the pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene.

on your screen. to inmates who escaped from a california jail last week are in custody after more than a week on the run. authorities say san francisco police department arrested both men. they were taken into custody this morning after officers found them in a stolen van. a woman alerted police when she saw a matching description of the vehicle. they broke out of the jail more than a week ago with the third inmate who surrendered yesterday. the three men were awaiting trial on charges in separate violent crimes. >> the entire state can breathe a sigh of relief. because we have the other two dangerous individuals back in custody where they should be. >> investigators say the three inmates escape from orange county jail by cutting a hole

hell, you're right. could that he'll turn to snow? and kathy wilson has that answer in her forecast. we have that winter weather advisory for most of the state. this is a classic sierra storm and we haven't seen one of these in a few years. it's a beautiful set up but look at the snow totals around the area. greater reno carson said -- carson city were looking at 6 inches in greater lake tahoe, a foot at the higher elevations and 8 inches elsewhere, mono county upwards of 6 to 12 inches with gusty winds up to 75 miles per hour. snow was falling around a doppler radar this evening and as we take a look downtown as were looking at the valley floor not much is going on yet. we are starting to see this rain is no line with some

we will be watching from gusty conditions around the lake to pick up in tomorrow. be advice we've got a lot of wind damage on friday and more could potentially be on the way for your sunday. timing this time system were going to watch that snow blanket into truckee south reno by saturday night and as we move into the day tomorrow snow is going to continue to fall and it will stretch all the way east into fallon. fallon we got some snow today maybe 4 inches out there and were going to get some more tomorrow. that snow will not go away and tell late into sunday and clearing for our monday. we're going to be packing some heavier snow with this event. tonight 29 and residual snow showers popping up around the area with maybe a half inch to 1 inch by the morning. those winds are going to be out of the west them by tomorrow they will ship to the north. winds will pick back up with gusty conditions of 40 miles

snow. moving across the state will watch for that snow to impact later into the evening tomorrow so mostly cloudy conditions for you at near elko and into the upper 20s for there. carson city were going to be watching for that snow but down in fallon 37 for tomorrow and bridgeport a mammoth we will be seeing heavier snow up to 12 inches. up to 8 inches for central nevada. down into carson city like i was mentioning we are going to be watching for heavy snowfall. those gusts will be 40 miles per hour but they will be moving along the interstate. up at the lake upwards of 1 foot of snow with gusty conditions and temperatures reaching into the upper 20s and low 30s. northern viewers and susanville we be watching for that snow
