the major efforts rescue crews made this afternoon. that's coming up at 5:. you are watching news 4 today on your side, in high definition. happy sunday and thank you for joining us. an update on a story we have been following all weekend. crews have found the body of a second man whose canoe capsized on donner lake friday night. they found 34-year-old lucas johnson's body in about the defeat of water this afternoon at the northeast corner of the lake near where they believe the canoe capsized. he was from auburn. a rescue team found the body of a second man yesterday in about 15 feet of water and he has been identified as joshua patterson from california. please do not believe the men were wearing life jackets. reno police are searching

fired several shots into a reno apartment injuring a man in side. police believe it happened at the 100 block saturday morning. they found a man sitting in his apartment with gunshot wounds. he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and he told police he had no idea who would shoot him. if you have information, police are asking you to call secret witness at 322-4900 . the community of stark and many people across the state are mourning the loss of senator debbie smith she died earlier this month after battling brain cancer in today, the community came together to celebrate her life melissa attended her memorial and joins us now.>> reporter: debbie smith will be remembered in many ways. she was a wife, mother, grandmother and state senator with a brilliant career. but one thing friends and colleagues said, even though

lives. >> [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: certainly, a tough story to cover today. senator smith continued her work after her diagnosis. to return to the senate after having surgery to remove a brain tumor in february 2015. she was first elected to the state assembly in 2000 in february 2015. she was first elected to the state assembly in 2001 a seat in the city -- in the senate in 2012. she was 60 years old. definitely a loss for the nevada community today. in ohio pastor is dead after being shot inside his church during service this morning. dayton police say william shoulder had just walked back into the pulpit in zion baptist church when the shooter got out of a pew and followed him. witnesses said they heard it -- a couple of shots fired when everyone took off running.

were inside the church at the time. the shooter is believed to be his brother. police are investigating a possible motive. an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. the university of nevada reno aiming at 400 faculty members by the year 2020. university official say their goal is to bring the ratio down to 18-1. the university's record enrollment of nearly 21,000 students this year is generating resources that will fund 300 of those new academic positions. the legislature will be asked to sign 100 faculty jobs for nevada's system of higher education. we still have a few more weeks until spring but it already feels like the season has arrived. here's a look outside right now. a definite -- it definitely looks like spring out there.
