graduated from the same year. >> we had a lot of trouble talking about the book. >> you say that obsession's there's the good ones and the bad ones and it's got a bad rap. >> with the store with the idea that clinical practice named at session as a bad thing over a hundred years ago. it defined obsessions with unwanted interest of box as soon as you name it session it's a bad thing and it's hard to talk about good sessions. that definition is bled into the culture as the most people when they think about sessions they think of obsessive compulsive disorder. if the thick of the above was a problem there gree obsessions that scientists, artists, philosophers. he really enjoy yourself. >> how do i know my obsession is actually helping one. obviously there's some recessions you say who this is fascinating to me i'm going to really pursue it and obviously healthy but sometimes is it going too far?

and it to interested in something as nonproductive? >> on productive obsessions their source of anxiety you can tell what obsession is a rising because were worried about something we keep thinking what a co-worker said where our retirement fund is dwindling to something. productive obsessions arrived from our meeting the ways we feel is life is meaningful. it could be any hobbies something will small as researching some subjects that you always been interested in. we talk so contemporary ever did sessions in the book when i was interested in fonts and typefaces he loved them thought there were beautiful turned into a big business form didn't know what was going to be business. was something he really enjoyed. all meaning is subjective so if you enjoy something that's probably something you could turn into a productive obsession if you wanted to. >> it occurs to me what the problems today for me at least

personally, it is i don't have obsessions there so much information and interest out there what you get interested in something for while and on the internet something pops up and you want to the next thing. he never actually focus on the one thing that you could be productive and creative that. i think >> that's really true that's why we suggest a first up is to generate a list of interests. to see which your interested in cheered when we're young 546 or 7 years old law books science and nature we what we like. now it's not so clear which general interest is to us. generate a list what on their minds generate interest. we have to quieter minds a little better right now or lines are filled small things. were hopping from one thing to another we do have to do real serious work to get our whole brain back. so we have roamed obsession. but

race started at 5:30 a.m. we have a winner he keeps his name is keith from palo also became the first place with time of 2 hours 23 minutes and 28 seconds. we have a winner for the half marathon it's michael san francisco his time was one hour and 15 minutes and 10 seconds. we'll have more on the marathon and also check of the weather in just a minute. now let's get to the news a developing story of san jose appeared to seven year- old girl has died in apartment fire appeared firefighters were called out to an apartment building near hamilton and meridian avenue. just before 2:00 a.m. this morning. flames spread quickly but firefighters were able to put out the blaze in half an hour. that's what made the grim discovery. >> saying that someone was trapped. the pleas on scene there was an unknown amount of people who got out one gross

half an hour but if on the little girl in the back bedroom. she was rushed to the hospital where she later died. the seven other people were inside the park at the time when the fire a least three of them suffered from smoke inhalation. another people attack on a child this time in oakland. police say that a neighbor's pit bull terrier bit a seven year-old girl in the face at home at 82nd avenue saturday afternoon. the girl suffered significant but not life-threatening injuries treated animal control took the dog away. this incident comes two days after to year-old boy was killed by three pit bulls. his stepfather steven is in custody on a variety of charges. as we mentioned the race is winding down this is video from earlier this morning thousands of broader competing in san francisco marathon cheered the race started at 5:30 a.m. and the winner is keys from paul waldo. he finished first with a time of two hours and 23 minutes

look up from your drive and the san francisco or on the way to the bay bridge you may notice the electronic sign flashing the arrival of the 2010 national if cancer summit. the summit is coming up this week brings together a health researchers community leaders health-care providers from all around the country and is seeing presented by san jose is basically t-notes cancer founded by isabel. she's also a cancer survivor as many of you know. isabel wants to talk about the summit. first can you been working for good year- and-a-half on it. connecting all the dots here let's talk a little bit about why you focus on latinos this summer. >> to check the numbers is when the import reasons. we have one and five latinos who die from cancer the second only to heart

disease. suddenly there was a report from the university of texas cancer center that projected in the next 20 years cancer incidence in the latino community will go up a hundred and 42%. we need to look at the numbers because there are so many unknowns in terms of what we need to research. if the kinds of different cancers we need to look at. we have at least a third of the community that has no access or has little access or bilingual bearer's barriers for the need education and we need to talk about the things like personalize madison, a genetic testing and counseling. in tax are going to were going to need to know about the treatment that if we don't have insurance, we don't engage we don't do clinical trials all these things need to be known so we can get in there make a difference.

>> to access for a minute that's a big issue of growing issue in the latino community pure there's a lot of reasons behind it was touch a couple of those one will be language barriers. >> we figure about a third or 33% of the latino community is uninsured. a large percentage of those are spanish-speaking. so they have a much more difficult time accessing their those who are undocumented is well. that adds to the pile of issues that become an issue. we know that even know there's a greater attention to our requirement to have medical interpreters if not all caregivers have them or they have some insight when you need them. many times in a young kid transiting for parent what the doctors telling them which white might be a diagnosis for terminal cancer. if we're trying to help spot light issues that we hope will change policies and

the system itself. >> one thing you're also spotlighting his breast cancer awareness. cancer intercommunity it's the no. 1 cancer killer of latinos. it becomes really key to understand the genetics and the environment. when the people who's come this sister studied which recruited 50,000 plus women from around the country. a huge sample. a huge sample for the sisters of breast cancer we were very engaged in trying to help them recruit some of those women. one of the thing what they're doing is looking to give blood, urine the taken ill and toenail clippings they ask them to complete questionnaires and they do to our follow-up telephone interview and one of the issues as you can see that makes it more difficult is that 32 percent of the latinos are originally recruited still have

fallen out of compliance. when they start to compare and contrast with their coming up with this insurance or the studies is that there is huge implication for not knowing how latinas if are impacted. you can't compare to black-and-white to you can see similarities in our what of the differences have can we target research to target those differences. an interesting thing of the some extent is the launch idea that you have. tell us about that. we call the working lunch to develop a framework for cancer agenda. will be working off one that was not about 2003. we need to look at some of the major issues that are impacting us. with health-care reform their dollars targeted for certain things we want to make sure we understand what it is we need to target as a latina community and see if we can help make sure some of those dollars are moved in those directions so we can do that. hopefully will come up with a least a framework for
