live this is kron 4 news at 6:00 at 6:00 the oakland city council has proposed a tax measure for the november ballot which could mean police officers were recently laid off would be rehired. the council vote came in last night at 5 to 3. if approved by voters would mean a $360 parcel tax. it would raise $54 million a year. the council said the measure would only be available for a vote if oakland police agreed to pay 9 percent of the pension plan. as kron 4 kate thompson explains if the tax is not approved it more officers will be laid off. >> current budget problems led to 80 police officers being laid off this month and a lot more layoffs could be on the way this city can't convince residents to pay and a parcel tax. >> if the mess or why and a

ec transit dispute continues in riders continue to see delays about 15 to 20 percent of the workforce calls in sick each and every day. on friday a judge will weigh in on the issue as kron 4 christine conley tells a service cuts could be hanging in the balance. ac transit says 15.7 million without the savings agency claims the bus system would lose $300,000 a week. it could move towards the brink of

bankruptcy and would have to look at drastic cuts. agency officials say that could mean ending weekend bus service. all of it. here's how things got to this point. the agency is facing a $56 million deificit over the next two years. last week they imposed a contract on the workers to help bridge the gap. the new contract cuts over time increases employee comtributions for health care, and calls for new employees to contribute a portion of their salaries to their pension. on friday, the contract issue will go before a judge who will decide if the new contract should be suspended or the two sides should go to arbitration. ac transit says if the new contract is thrown out they will still have to make drastic decisions because of the in august will implement the second round of service reductions this year. officials say there are
