3:13am. that's when oakland police got the call the man had jumped onto the hood of a woman's car. police described it as an attempted carjacking. investigators say the woman and her young daughter were able to drive away from the suspect. however well on their way to the scene the opd got a call about a deranged man entered the emergency room here at the children's hospital with a gun in his hand holding a nurse hostage. oakland police arrived and sent in their negotiating team within minutes investigators say they were able to convince the suspect to release the hostage and put down his gun and give himself up without anyone being injured. the suspect an ex- felon 49 year-old cottrell broadnax turned out to be the same man suspected of an attempted carjacking before running into the emergency room at the children's hospital according to eye witnesses. he was later taken to local hospital for a mental examination and was later placed under arrest for attempted carjacking, false imprisonment and being in possession of a fire arm. in oakland, kron 4 news.
