a 4.1 quake hit 13 mi. south san jose on the calaveras fault. here on our map it also had to aftershocks we should tell you about what that 2.6 of the second at 2.1. the quake was felt over a wide area of the bay and its closest to seven trees california. our callers have

been saying that they felt the jolt, and everybody is that were jolt. kate thompson has been talking with emergency officials, transportation officials to get the response on how to handle the quake. >> i just got off the fall was as if our department they say they haven't received any calls for emergency help. they are on heightened alert in case there any more earthquakes or if there are any aftershocks but they did tell me as they have an emergency response plan that only goes into effect if it's a 5.0 or greater. they're been done that yet but if it's a 5.0 or greater with the end of doing is pulling all the trucks and equipment out of the fire department in case there's any damage to them so that they can just go. if there's an emergency. the next driver of the neighborhood to check in case of phone lines are down or anything like that's making it to people there are problems. they are on heightened alert at this point. >> be as a talked with transportation as well.

a moderate earthquake jolted the bay area of the they did to 4.1 quake hit for 10 this afternoon. it followed by two aftershocks at 2.6 and 2.1. it's a look yet to be recorded on the calaveras fault. about 13 mi. south of san jose. 10 mi. east is seven trees california no damage as been reported. jonathan blum is standing by here as a look at some of the usgs maps and has no permission about the aftershocks. >> the first thing we want to look at is a shake map it's unusual typically was the greens and yellows and even reds and oranges. this one looks like an icicle tell blues and purples. to visitors break you can see it is pretty much this color the entire bay area the bay area was shaking. it was light to moderate in this case. we hear you could see the four aftershocks. the

at 4:21 p.m.. just 21 mi. from the original quake. on the calaveras shock line. you can see exactly where this is located in the south bay heading into the diablo range. felt as far away as san francisco, berkeley we've got calls from both closed locations and we felt it here in the studio. a number of people this of a feeling it. magnitudes typically don't caused damage but there felt noticeable shaking fell from quake's 4.0 to 4.9. >> thank you jacqueline we spoke with the u.s. geological survey about today's quake, they say the area sees a lot of quick. >> this is an unusual because cal of various this fall was producing mess. this earthquake which you see here was just about a mile and a half southeast of the morgan help earthquake back in 1984. morgan hill

blues indicate the shaking was late but as the currency was also very widespread. all the way up to marin and sonoma county in fact if you were say in a phrase where was the shaking, the nine bay area counties felt that. the ec in santa cruz they did feel it so much and that parts of salinas may not have felt the earthquake it all. if you look to the north that's where most of the shaking was felt along the calaveras fault up here in a very popular to parts of the east bay. also down here marin county some shaking fell. well this is all what you consider significant shaking and was heavier severe shaking. it these turquoise colors close to the quake this is what you'd call light to moderate shape. it's not a cut of chicken the creeds damages the kind that is shaking up a little bit no pun intended. it if you look up at the blues and purples this is what you call light or even some cases very like shaking. it is astonishing that would definitely not cause damage it's the kind that would feel for people who feel lot. you could see

a little bit more of what happened in the moments an hour following the quake. the main quake of 4.1 magnitude was four. something or other that's what the shaking was so widespread it was 4 mi. they move the epicenter of the game more understanding. you could see the four aftershocks have been recorded so far one of them so let you probably could feel it you just have to see it on a seismograph. at 01 0.1 @ 4:29 p.m.. the at 2.6 @ 4:13 p.m. but if you're one of these people at the observatory inured shaken up from the earthquake sure that aftershock was shaking up a new feeling. as we pull out you can see the city of santa cruz and san francisco certainly this city of san jose all felt the earthquake and that's what we're getting reports from such a wide area across the bay is because the earthquake was deep. we have a deeper earthquake shaking is not as severe but it is very spread out.

at san francisco's city hall bring in the city closer to getting a new mayor. dan curman is what separates as the city all right now what the latest development. >> after a very contentious meeting on tuesday, today supervisors rallied around city administrator ed lee and they selected him by a vote of 10-1 to be the city's next mayor. this is a symbolic vote since the bear is still the mayor. i get it was not unanimous once again chris daly tried to stop this. he first suggested that his nemesis supervisor rev. duffy shouldn't be let to vote because he is running for mayor. county council told that's just not the way it is.

another very chilly day around the bay area this afternoon temperatures on the low '40's now cooling down into the upper 30's and some locations. fairfield 39, 39 in antioch, 38 in napa, 44 in redwood city. 42 in san jose as you can imagine it's quite it quite cold overnight. into tomorrow morning, a dense fog and drizzle expected inland valleys. temperatures will be widespread in the 30's. by noon temperatures struggling to warm especially in our inland valleys for the fog will hang on a log as. the 3:00 hour partly cloudy skies and chilly conditions yet again only a few spots getting into the low 50s. look outside on the storm tracker 4 radar we continue to see the fog the bay area. thanks to the storm down to the south its northeasterly winds and again this essentially fog into the bay area as well as chile's central valley temperatures.
