bring bart to san jose. construction could begin next year. the funds have to clear of republicans who want to slash billions out of the transportation budget. the extension is expected to open and 2018. democratic lawmakers are showing how widespread budget cuts need to be in california as the legislatures do not extend tax hikes to help close a $26 billion deficit. lawmakers say california would and class size reduction efforts, reduce wildland firefighting. if voters do not approve that tax hike on the june ballot. it could be implemented in addition to the 12 and half million dollar cuts. >> darya: caltrans is in desperate need for money. if they don't get it it could have

engineers will determine whether the demolition date for condemned building needs to be moved up. the fire department was called out last night this after a possible collapse. when the firefighters got there it was still standing. they are concerned about the sturdiness of this building. fire crews met with engineers and examined a side wall leading without support of the roof. it has been vacant since 2006. a judge ordered two men to stand trial on murder charges for the beating death of a 59 year-old san francisco man in downtown oakland last year. they rejected the claim the older man was probably responsible. 19 year- old and 18 year-old were seeing attacking him near the fox theater in april. he died five

will be our priority. virtually every sector is being reviewed and could face the budget cuts. last year they paid out millions and sick leave and vacation pay. employees' salaries and pension packages are crating hardships. we see how sommuch some employees are making. >> reporter: the highest-paid employee was the chief of police taking home $534,000. 327,000 was vacation, and sick leave. he was able to get because he retired. the fire department was the second-highest paid making 435,000, three under 11,000 was vacation, sick leave pay. city officials say because of employee contracts this city was forced to pay out $14 million in
