were getting too carried away with our sports you know. >>pam: wednesday's par service for brian is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.. new safety concerns for southwest airlines flight from oakland to denver had to turn around today. officials say a wing morning light came on and the pilot decided it would be safer to return to oakland then to continue on to denver. if the 103 passengers on board were put on to another flight about two hours later. the plane is a different model than the aircraft that had its fuselage tear over arizona. that plane and prompted an investigation of all boeing 737, off most of which are owned by southwest airlines. southwest said it they've been inspecting 79 older planes and found cracks on five of them. southwest said those planes will be grounded until they can be fixed. this still keeps people nervous. at the southwest plane that made

that landing on friday was 15 years old. that does raise questions about the safety of aging aircraft. kate thompson is here and talked with aviation experts about all this. it makes you wonder whether older planes are safe? >>kate: when i spoke with the experts with the telling me that it's not the age lichen years of the human that's aging the airplane, it sometimes that airplane goes up into the air. we have an animation to illustrate this is what happens, the airplane contracts and expands every time it is used. that is what each as the airplane, that's what puts the cracks in the shell and that's what can cause problems. it that's where you have to do the maintenance, make sure people are on top of it and inspecting these airplanes. >>pam: what to southwest do to maintain its fleet? >>kate: that is a problem, boeing is looking into that, southwest is looking into that. southwest has 170 of

>> out and tell state regulators about the hair wing experience. at a hearing is being held tonight by state officials. the looking for input on how to strengthen crucial safety rules for the pipeline industry. jonathan is live in san bruno where the meeting is being held. >>jonathan: the meeting has been going on for about one hour, for stock and a month- long process try to figure out what kind of regulations will keep a disaster like this one in san bruno from happening in the future. if you look behind you could see people milling around in what is a packed meeting room. if the more dramatic pictures are the pictures off the fire that happened last fall that killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. that fire is the reason that this whole regulatory process is taking place. the public utilities commission has been criticized several times during the process for not being carted off on pg&e cool the pipelines. these

pipelines decades-old and just waiting to explode. what the utilities commission is doing is getting input from survivors of the fire and members of the general public as the first have been crafting tougher regulations to make sure that pipeline across california are safe in this explosion doesn't happen again. the people spoken so far are irritated in place a lot of the blame on pg&e. >> it may have only been eight people killed, but where's the other people that have seen the damage, had trauma to their hands and body. >> all of us amazed that pg&e did not know their own pipelines. they're the ones that look at those samples in order to figure out and prevent it.

barry bonds in the defense team tuesday, a judge refused to allow a jury here recently discovered audio tape of a conversation between bonds former business manager steve hoskins and on surgeon dr. 13. the judge ruled the tape was barely intelligible, its overall value to the case was low. austin secretly recorded the conversation after the government raided alco. the two discussed the right, greg anderson, a steroid and barry bonds. if admitted it could of been used to impeach the testimony of dr. king who contradicted much of hoskins testimony by denying the discuss steroids and bonds. later in the day, court employees were allowed from the transcript of bonds december 4, 2003 grand jury testimony. in it bonds denied being ejected by his trainer greg anderson. something that contradicts the testimony of his personal shopper cap the hoskins. she testified she

witnessed it. bonds also told the grand jury while anderson gave him a cream and something called flaxseed oil. the other bonds never knowingly took steroids. this contradicts the testimony of steve hoskins and bonds for growth in kimberly who said on told them he was using steroids. the defense will bring its case wednesday. on the witness list to federal agents and barry bonds himself. attorneys say they recall some of those witnesses were not of them. at the federal courthouse in san francisco, kron 4 news. >>pam: legal analyst michael cardozo your desktop about the case. the big surprise of the day is that the judge wrote this recording the public is had a chance to hear about the recording and the transcript. but the judge will not let the jury here appeared that was a surprise. >> it was, it comes late in the trial. keep in mind the government has set seven years to prepare this case. the judge's question is wait
