a one-hour perior. >> an officer heard sounds emanating from the water. being observant he sought to individuals on the water. they were in distress. he made phone calls, emergency operations when into a fact, staff responded to the scene of the incident, they were able to pull to individuals out of the water. >> reporter: not only staff but inmates involved as well. they pulled the victims out of the water, san rafael fire was called it. the male dictum went into cardiac arrest, he was transferred to the hospital. the woman was treated for hypothermia and trent for ditra.

these folks were out of the water at this time and his prison guard heard their cries for help. >> darya: a lucky thing that they had this type of alert, parts are there 24 hours a day. thank you jackie. >> mark: police are searching for six shooter in and a drive- by shooting. 33-year-old woman who was killed in a drive-by shooting in oakland monday.beatrice burton was fatally shot on union street near poplar park at about 9:45 p.m. monday. beatrice was a nurse's aide and worked in the cafeteria at berkeley's oxford elementary school. we spoke to her grandmother. >> communities need to get together, and do something about all of this violence. taking innocent people's lives. something needs to be done. whoever does took my granddaughter's life i wish they would think about what they did, what a beautiful person they took away from this world. >> mark: counselors will be on hand at the school to help students. >> darya: the bay area is

san quentin prison in one of the towers was alerted to the to people in the water. he helped plot the mile. as start at 1:15 a.m. when a prison guard heard the cries of help, look out into the water and saw a boat capsized, two victims were on the shore line. emergency responders staff and inmates responded to the team. they pull them out of the water, we talked to sam robinson and he talked about why they were in the water. >> well out in the bay they began having engine trouble, they tried to restart the engine, they fell off the boat and the boat capsized in the day. from what we were told, they were in the water for about an hour. the current lead them over here to our shore line. as i told you are staff members

was posted on www.youtube.com earlier this month the beating of a 14 year-old hayward high school student. he is then pulled out and is being home schooled. she did not want her full name or her face to be on camera because she is afraid for her son's safety. >> they attacked him. i could see my son hit the floor and numerous kids, that spirit you can see the campus is out of control. nobody is doing anything. what are they waiting for? somebody to die. >> reporter: is bad enough but she says the school did not let her know her son was in a fight. >> i was notified not by the school but a family member that my son had been attacked by numerous individuals >> reporter: the superintendent declined to go into camera but said the issue of school safety
