contra costa county after the supervisors approved a big budget cuts. almost $47 million was slashed from the next fiscal year. 130 positions cut. the biggest cuts come from the police department, sheriff's office in the district attorney's office. these cuts are not final but chairs don't house as a lot of people are already concerned about what they mean for keeping the county saved. >>j.r. stone: contra costa and district attorney mark pederson sounding off about budget cuts that his department could see next year. it cuts that would force him to eliminate 12 positions in his office. i would have to prosecute folks as misdemeanors. in contra costa county there are 929 registered sex offenders, by law must register. without telling the prosecution many might choose to go under the radar. knowing they would

governor's office said it the very real possibility. as kate thompson explains, without the tax attention's proposed by the governor of the school year to get a lot shorter. >>kate: state is considering reducing the school year by one month or 20 instructional days. the school year is about 180 days but some districts have shaved off a couple of days in the past few years to save money. with the 20 day reduction that would bring the school year to about 160 days meaning some students would go to school for part of may even all of the month of june. estimates for eliminating just one week of the school year is about $1 billion. expand that to the entire month of may 4th weeks and the savings guy rockets to $4 billion. what the state is looking at is have their coins to pay for this school year because rain now there not getting the approval from the public to go ahead with tax extensions. it's the
