is live with us. one firefighter is still fighting for his life. >> if you are looking for a silver lining is that the grandmother and three grandchildren that were in a home are ok. one firefighter is dead, another is battling for his life today and after a blaze at that really did not seem that bad at first but in the end, lieutenant vincent perez, a 48 year-old that has been with the department for more than two decades lost his life and his colleague that was in there with him, anthony val erio is a 53 old. he is in critical condition. >> this is a tough day in san francisco. it is a tough job. this is one thing that i was hoping not to ever reported. but thank you the fire department is like a family and we lost a family member today.

before 11:00 it was on the 100 block of berkley, zero according to the firefighters a deadly fire started on the first floor stand and then spread to the second story quickly. they said that a sudden surge of flames or what they call a/over--a flashover are to blame. one firefighter died of cardiac arrest. a tragic situation. maureen kelly is live at the scene, what else do you have for us? >> i am just down the street from where the fire broke out. you can still see the fire crews and the trucks at clogging the street. as you can see the yellow crime scene tape surrounding the house with a fire broke out. technically this is a crime scene. the arson task force is here, the investigators from the police and fire on seen trying to get to the bottom of what happened. i

spoke with a neighbor earlier today leaving her house and just as the fire broke out take a listen to what she has to say. >> i saw the three girls come out of the house, i saw a little bit of white smoke coming out of the product. i said what is going on? they set fire, they were crying i said what happened? they think that this started in the very downstairs. we ran across the street in the first fire trucks came within two minutes. but the smoke was getting thicker and more white. then sign, and siren and in a slow start to turn black. she saw a lot of chaos and yelling and then to firefighters were in the rise next to the car and they were working on them doing cpr. that was really scary if her we were all thinking this is terrible. it started out so small, but little bit of smoke coming out of the broad and it turned in to this giant black cloud. clause >> san francisco fire on the

should be reformed, but we have been on were control for a year stating that. it is our belief that they have no intention of bargaining over pension reform. they want is one size fits all that they want to put on the ballot in november and they do not want anything to get in their way of doing that. >> this is a big issue. it is driving the shortfall, the gap that we have this year half of it is caused by the increase in retirement costs. if you look at the police department right with the police union, the cost of retirement benefits are going up by $25 million next physical year. we do not have the money to cover that. >> is the two sides do not come to terms, another one for the mentally police officers to be laid off in addition to the 150 cops that got out slips at this screen. that will mean the remaining cops will be spread thin. >> of the layoffs could not come at a worse time with
