[music] >> a city in morning after the death of a firefighter at a house in san francisco. 48 year-old lieutenant vincent perez died yesterday

after going into full cardiac arrest suffering severe burns and the flags are at half staff across the state. and another firefighter is fighting for his life. 53 year-old anthony valerio is in critical condition. we are live right now at san francisco general. >> a lot of the motions today, just like yesterday, today the perez family is making funeral arrangements. the valerio family is happy to be extending their hotel reservations. the fire department has to process all of this and continue to serve the city. >> thursday they watched as one of their own, lieutenant vincent perez was wheeled away from san francisco general. on friday, they started rolling in, many before dawn hoping to hear that they have not lost a second firefighter. >> it was a good sign that

he was able to make it through the night. we were not so sure yesterday after the evening. but he is a fighter. he has participated in triathlons, it is very fit. >> his lungs have never faced a greater challenge, the 53 role firefighter and paramedic remains unconscious after injuring a flash over expos yesterday at the diamond heights fire. >> they are keeping him medical the paralyzed to help his breathing. if he moves a little bit, it will enter him. they put him in a bid that will help to relieve the pressure of his chest on his lungs. the news is pretty dire right now, but we still have no idea whether it will go one way or the other. >> the valerio family tries to stay optimistic his other family, the firefighters are most stopping by the hospital and some house starting their net shift.

look at all the windows, they are completely gone, blown out. it is facts like these the arson investigators will examine very closely as the piece together what caused the initial fire and what happened during the blaze that led to one firefighter losing his life and others getting injured. the fire officials tell kron4 news that the blaze and perched high in the hills. it presents a unique challenges. >> it is unique because the streets are narrow, it is built on a hill, a lot of the homes have what we call below grade. the floors are the buildings that go down below the street level instead of up. instead of fighting the fire with a heat and gases are going up and we can ventilate them, the heat and the fire are coming up it is like fighting a basement fire. you have to go lie down into the basement to get to the flames. >> similar conditions caused the death of another

the 6:00 hour and across the santa cruz mountains. then we have a little bit of a break in some places around the bay area tomorrow afternoon. the coastline, the peninsula, the east bay catching a little bit of a break. the same thing is true for saturday night into sunday morning, the showers will continue sunday, spotty showers through the bay area. the rain will continue to affect us through the rest of sunday and possibly even into monday. here is a look at with the rainfall totals will be this weekend, a lot of areas with more moderate rainfall. the rainfall totals will vary from place to place. up to 2 in. in north bay, 2 1/2 inches in the santa cruz mountains, then again, it could be anywhere from one- third of an inch to 1 and 1/3 inches. down in the south bay, up to 1 in. of rain. but the rain totals will definitely shattered our previous records and a

man. i love him very deeply a long time ago. >> although she has not spoken to him many years, his ex-wife patricia l. richardson has fond memories of him. >> it was a very fun time, we were in our 20s, we had a blast with all of our friends together he was a very responsible guy very loyal with his friends. but he had a funny side, and he had a lot of friends, a lot of it best buddies. >> she also remembers being a friend of the dangers that firefighters face. they used to live next door to his fire station. >> at night i would hear him going off to fires, and it was a very hard time. it was scary. >> she spoke with his family today and said they want everyone to know what a kind and loving person he was. as >> he did what he was going to do, he is a hero.

is in--assisting in the investigation of cellphone of the missing nursing student case. she was last seen a week ago and she still has not been seen or heard from. they are hoping to have tracking results connected to her cellphone which was not used until noon the day following her disappearance. but we have found that the cellphone result are still not in. >> seven days into the investigation of the disappearance of 260 michelle le. a man overseeing the missing persons case says that a major source of frustration it is connected to the pace of examining physical evidence in the case. >> we have to work with what we are given if things have to go to the lab, if it video tape has to be tediously reviewed, that is the cost of a thorough investigation. great, to be

safe return. it starts all at 7:00 p.m. in hayward. now a former and row--raymond clark apologized in court today for killing 24 year- old annie lay whose body was found stuffed in the wall of a research lab. the san jose police officers' association have reached a tentative agreement that will save more than 150 jobs, this will prevent 156 police officers from being laid off. the terms of the proposal included 10 percent reduction in total compensation for a savings of 12.9 million but this will allow an arbitrator to decide whether the reduction will be ongoing or one time. the proposal must be approved by members of the police union.
