he was found in the water. the scuba team found several hours in the water but didn't find evidence linked to the murder. we talked to one of the last people to see him alive. >> he said i don't want to die tonight. to me, i don't know. i thought he was joking. i woke up in the morning and come in and talk to his friend. i tell him, they found a body in the bay. let's go see if it might be dennis. we walked down and found his shirt. his buddy picked it up. he couldn't believe it. he threw it on the floor and tears came to his eyes. they were awesome kids. >> rodriguez and nolton had been living in a car together the last month. dozens of his former classmates gathered to remember him in a vigil in his hometown of lacy, washington. they were shocked and upset

remembering the 20-year-old and hoping his killer brought to justice. >> dennis was a likable guy. everybody that met him loved him. such a gruesome way to have died. i hope it was painless, but it doesn't sound like it was. i just hope that the killer is found. >> people who knew him say he thought about joining the army but wanted to be a rapper. before he was killed, he was living out of his car with a friend from high school. after more than 15 years on the run and an international man hunt, one of the fbi's most wanted man has been caught. he and his long time girlfriend were arrested in santa monica. he had an alleged role in 19 murders. this has video taken outside the apartment where he was found last night. he was the inspiration for the film the departed. he had turned fbi and corrupted

two agents. one of them is in jail now. a registered sex offender carey verse is back on the street after being released if a state mental hospital. you may remember the 40-year- old convicted of sexually assaulting two teens and a homeless man. he completed a prison sentence in 1998. he was forced to undergo the state department of mental health sexually violent health program. he was arrested last february for violating one of the conditions set by the court. authorities say that verse lied about having what he called a friendship with a man in his therapy group. we've talked exclusively with him. he says he'll never reoffend again. >> i was 21 the last time i got in trouble. i'm 40 now. that's a lot of time. my life was messed up at that time. i was lost. i've really done well since i've been in the community. a lot of times when your young,

welcome back this afternoon. president barack obama traveling to meet with soldiers from the army's 10th mountain division, many just returned if afghanistan. afterwards, the president will meet with gold star families after the president addressed the nation last night breaking down his plan to bring american troops home nearly 10 years after president bush launched the war in afghanistan. president barack obama's plan to bring home 10,000 this year, 23,000 next year. that will leave 70,000 troops in afghanistan, the same as before obama ordered the troop search back in '09. he says more will come home through 2014 when the afghan army is scheduled to take over

security of the country. the president claims the war has costed over a trillion dollars. >> we must invest in the greatest resource of america, our people. we must create new jobs and industries while living within our means. we must rebuild infa structure, find new sources of energy. after pay passion of a decade of debate, we must find the common purpose we shared in the beginning of this time of war. our nation draws strength from our differences. when our union is strong, no hill is too steep, no horizon is beyond our reach. america, it is time to focus on nation building here at home. >> not everyone agrees with president barack obama's plan. some leaders in washington feel the number of troops to come home is too many too soon.

we see one caught on camera here. you see severe weather damaging. the funnel cloud here that touchdown down hit church hill downs. as many as nine stables were damaged there. no reports of any injuries to people or horses. apparently horses went scrambling as a chapel door were also damaged. some horses were shipped to other locations. today's racing and training were canceled. did you see the damaged barns from up above? no injuries reported to horses or people. many horses were running as this tornado hit the stables. many residents in iowa are searching for higher ground. flood waters from missouri are threatening their homes. a mandatory evacuation in effect for the entire county west of interstate 29. officials are worried the flood waters will overrun the levy.

most county line roads are shut down. flooding in parts of hamburg are extensive. a shelter is set up at a local high school to assists evacuees. federal officials have rejected california's request for a disaster association. they asked fema for help dealing with damage after cross 17 counties. fema explained in a litter yesterday that the agency determined the storms were three separate events that affected different parts of the state at different times. they also determined handling the storm damage was not "the on the combined capabilities of state and local governments." i guess we're on our own. thank you fed. i mean, it seems like a long time ago, the rain, rain, rain. now we're back to the summer

pattern. >> we are cooling off from extremely hot temperatures earlier in the week. we're starting to see a cool down especially walnut bay area, the valley. we're getting cooler air off the ocean. now the inland location is feeling the effects. warming only to 77 today at noontime. 80 by this afternoon. it's going to be a pleasant day outside for folks in the east bay compared to monday, tuesday, wednesday. here's iquique look at other temperatures. we're seeing 50 in nap pa, 53 san francisco and oakland, and san jose 57 degrees at this current hour. these are quite a bit cooler in some spots than we were 24 hours ago. livermore a good 10 degrees cooler now than the same time yesterday. that's thanks to the marine layer getting cooler air out there to folks suffering blistering heat this week. here's where temperatures go this afternoon. milder north bay afternoon.

not tracking hot spot, major incidents. your drive time heading towards san francisco only looking at about nine minutes now from the 24580 interchange. no backup, delay or metering lights. your ride to the bridge looks good so does the trip to hayward northbound and southbound. coming off the bridge it's an easy ride the interchange. your ride out southbound looks good, you can see the golden gate bridge problem free. they have that the entire length of the span southbound 101 ride. public trance it looks good. up to about 53 trains with no delays reported. >> thanks a lot. this morning, the board of directors is going to hear the results of a public survey of whether to extend service one hour friday night. that would mean service would

begin an hour later morning. it would have an affect on low income riders and minority riders. more work would need to be done to find alternative trance it for those riders. wall street opens in just over an hour. stocks start lower today. after the opening bell yesterday, the fed lowered estimates for economic growth. the dow dropped 0 point, nasdaq down 18. a fred chamber member said some of the problems plaguing the u.s. economy may be stronger and more persistent than he originally thought. we're waiting on claims today from the unemployment. last month, employers only added 54,000 jobs to the u.s. economy and unemployment rate went to 9.1%. two very different reports from japanese auto makers. toyota saying dealers will see increased supplies of the prius hybrid later in the summer and

have you heard the audio tape that's out with the airline pilot discouraging everyone he works with. he's been disciplined and he is back on the job. nasty comments heard about colleague 10s other pilots in the tower heard the whole thing. this pilot didn't realize the mic in the cockpit was stuck in on position. the recordings are now public. some of the words are beeped out. the pilot claimed about homosexuals and older flight attendants. >> there's 12 flight attendants individuals. there's never the same twice. 11 beep over the top beep beep homosexuals and a granny. 11. think of the odds of that. >> so he's talking like that

and going on and on. finally an air traffic controller getting on and warns him that he's being broadcast. the houston based pilot didn't realize hit and kept going another 2 1/2 minutes. the southwest airlines vice president has apologized for the incident. >> on behalf of the pilot, i want to apologize to our employees, customers and fellow pilots in the industry. this is isolated incident with one pilot and is not representative of the 35,000 hardworking respective employees of southwest airlines. this happened back in march. >> the pilot has apologized as well w. he was reinstated after going through diversity training. óv?ooñá#t

>> they call it groundhog day in the weather betises the same pattern we're stuck in. we compare it to the last month or so. nice foggy start. everyday, the weather pattern is roughly the same. here's a quick look from treasure island looking back at the bay bridge as it goes back to san francisco. clear skies above. we're dealing with a lot of coastal fog mainly from san francisco on southward towards santa cruz. we saw this yesterday on the bridge. this afternoon, another day of sunny and mild conditions, maybe breezy inland as we've got a fairly strong offshore push. so far, looking pretty good this evening. mostly clear to start with. the fog will roll back in through the overnight hours. we'll reset for tomorrow morning. temperatures now okay. here's the fog issue on the satellite. mainly from san francisco on down. it's starting to reach in

throughout the bay. we'll keep an eye on that. so far, so good. nothing thick enough to impede your travels. 53 san francisco and oakland, 55 livermore, 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. 50 nap pa, south bay mid-50s as well. 57 now in san jose. this afternoon temperatures rise up to mid 80s and maybe 90s. 76 out there in napa. temperatures looking to be mid 6 30s san francisco, 70 oakland. down in the south bay, probably 75 degrees. low 80s in morgan hill and livermore. much milder day through comparison throughout the beach. the marine layer is doing the thing cooling everybody down. giants game today, game 3 of a game series against the twins.

the bridge, probably just condensation on the lenses because of temperature change. your westbound ride looks good, no problems in the count her flow direction this morning. 13 minute strive time either way. lastly golden gate bridge ride looks good. there you see the trucks working on the lane configuration there. looks as if they're a little late this morning. they're now adding the fourth lane in the southbound direction heading in from morine. it hasn't created a backup or problem so far. new details in the investigation of the man who's body was found in the bay not far are far from a trail of blood in the san jose district. they found the man stabbed several times in the chest.

the scuba team went out and spent several hours in the bay but didn't find evidence linked to his cooling. people that knew him said he wanted to join the army but wanted to be a rapper. he had been living out of his car before the killing with a friend from high school. michelle lay who disappeared nearly a month ago, the family has announced they along with volunteers will have another search this saturday. they'll search new locations but near the area where people looked for her last weekend. the search this time will be without the assistance of the class kid foundation. we're hearing from the private investigator hired to help the family in their efforts to find michelle. >> we're supplementing the hayward police department's investigation and offering people with information the opportunity to contact law enforcement. this is an appeal letter put up

on michelle's website. it provides information on how to contact us. witnesses are often afraid. they don't understand the criminal justice system. there could be a cultural issue, could be on probation. there could be a variety of reasons people don't call police. we have released information based on this letter being posted. someone has made a mistake. if they got involved in something or this incident not fully knowing what was going on. the time to come forward is now. >> they're providing efforts to the family without a fee. the giants fan who suffered a traumatic brain injury after being beaten at the dodgers home opening game in la has been updated from critical to serious condition. brine stowe's doctor says the 42-year-old paramedic is breathing now without a vent lay tomorrow. since he's taken off antiseizure medication, she's

obstruction of justice april 13 april 13th. they deadlock 9 on three counts, charge bonds of lying to a grand jury about enhancing drugs. they'll decide whether to drop the charges or schedule a new trial. more americans applied for unemployment benefits last week adding to evidence that the labor market is weakening. the labor department said applications rose by 9000. they're at a seasonally ajoisted 429,000. it was the second increase in three weeks. this is the biggest jump in just a month. these numbers are just coming into the kron 4 news room. we'll have updates coming up throughout the morning. we'll take a break and be right back. the highs this afternoon, will be in the cooler side. santa rosa 80. mid-70s in nappa. san francisco, you'll be in the low to mid-60s. we're looking for oakland to come in about 70. 75 in san jose. we're looking at 80-degree weather in the delta and livermore. that's the way it's looking like for highs this afternoon. as for the seven-day forecast, take a look. we will hold on to the cooler weather pattern and into next week, inland temperatures not really breaking out of the low 80s. that's your weather. a quick check of traffic. erica is standing by with that. we're following reports of a fire. 18th street on castro. streets blocked off in the area. most importantly, it's the smoke visible from 980, not causing any delays just yet. it could be a visual hazard. we're sending a live crew to the scene.

people behaving badly. if you happen to drive around san francisco, you may have noticed one of these. they are called parklet. miniature parks, designed to widen the sidewalk in areas where the sidewalk may be a little too small. everyone of these should have signage, alerting people there's public space, where basically anyone could use it. one thing, the loss of parking spaces. every park in the city, loses two parking spaces so people could sit in the middle of the street. let forget about the loss of parking for a moment. what caught my attention is this? this logo is for cafe. it's branded in the bench on the park of both side. it's normally not a problem except this is a public park. yeah, yeah, i know.
