juvenile curfew as a means to reduce violent crime in oakland is a touchy subject for leaders in oakland city hall. i could not find one city councilperson available to discuss. jean quan doi told me that she does not support the curfew idea. the mayor might be open to some kind of a boy during enforcement to get teenagers off of the streets during certain hours. police chief floated the curfew idea to oakland city leaders a while back as an option that may reduce crime and after reviewing juvenile crime statistics like these from last year. the categories are homicides, shootings, burglaries and auto thefts. from june to august 139

juveniles were arrested. a 41 percent increase during summer vacation from school. officials at city hall say at this time there is nothing on the table when it comes to any kind of curfew for the city of oakland. >> as you might imagine, the idea of a teen curfew is getting mixed reactions from residents. we spoke to some of them about the proposed idea. >> i do not supported. it is nothing against cutting down violence. i do not support a curfew. >> i do supportive. i am tired of seeing the use around here is that of being in a community center, i am tired of seeing them been out there, running around talking crazy, they have guns. >> i do not think it would be a good idea. i think it is better to give the use of the message that they're good people if they want to do something outside after 10:00 p.m., i think they should be encouraged to do that, something social. a lot of wonderful things can happen
