police say they do not know what led to the shooting or who shot the victim. >>officer: we do not know if it was within members of the same club or an outside rival gang. >>da: it helps to and during the funeral of jeff pedigrew. san jose police have not said where in the cemetery the shooting occurred. investigators spent much of their time near the grave site of pedigrew. >> you do not do anything at a memorial park or fuel. >>da: more than is 1000 people attended the funeral. although many people witnessed the shooting, they are not getting a lot of cooperation. >>officer: the scene appears to have been tampered with. i cannot get into details, but they believed it has been tampered with. >>da: as it was steve thompson, the sergeant at arms at the santa cruz chapter of the club and a close friend of pedigrew. he

was a bill bondsman at this downtown san jose office. friends left flowers by the front door. he was nicknamed mr. and 187 which is the state penal code for murder. he was suspected of killing a piker years ago but acquitted of the crime. he was an ex-marine. family and friends say he is survived by four children. in san jose, da lin, kron4 news. >>marty: if the governor is declaring today steve jobs data. apple is organizing a memorial service and big names are expected to attend. this is to honor the late apple ceo. a small private funeral was held for jobs last week. he died earlier this month at the age of 56 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. >>marty: thought there were two people shot and killed

in the east bay. the shooting happened near interstate 580 at the park avenue exit. the victims were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. police are still searching for suspects. the shooting was down the road from a safety summit where nearly 1000 people met to discuss ways to lower oaklands crime rate. more on that coming up. >>marty: police in san francisco are looking for a suspect they say shot at a chp officer during a car chase. the chase ended when the suspect's car crashed near the transamerica building. the suspect fled on foot and is on the run. >>marty: there were two officers that suffered ankle injuries obligate the chase. officers spotted a man with a handgun in the potrero neighborhood. they caught the suspect after falling him down a rocky hill. they also recover the dead. >>marty: thousands of protesters took to the streets off to participate in the occupy movement around the bay area. in

oakland, organizers say nearly 3000 people came out to demonstrate and march. the crowd was joined by actor danny glover. >>marty: across the day, more protesters marching through san francisco. at one point the crowd of demonstrators off stretch from union square to the cable car turnaround at market street. in the north bay, santa rosa, demonstrators were protesting corporate greed. here, there were marching down first street. the occupy protests which began on wall street, are beginning to gain momentum. coming up in the next half hour, more on the protests that have gone a nationally and internationally. >>marty: straight ahead, a crowd gathering at the dedication of the martin luther king memorial in washington d.c.. we will have that report coming up and also, a live look outside and san francisco.

states but it is a steep increase in air safety incidents. rack,-- >>grant: incidents since 2008 have almost tripled. a say in the tower area which is 5 mi. from the airport, incidents are up 53% and a say in the approach area which is 40 mi. from the airport, incidents are of 166%. the head of the national air traffic controllers association says the increase is due to a new reporting system in which controllers are not punished for reporting errors. >> there is a hefty--there is a healthy system out there where employees are willing to report incidents in order to address them. >>grant: the faa also points

caltrans has done to reinforce freeways and roadways and make those aspects of our infrastructure safer. we has also have a tremendous growth of emergency response team development. individuals will be able to help themselves and each other more quickly. >>henry: what is a community for emergency response team? this >> is developed by fema curious members of the community can attend classes to learn about home and for silver. it's, earthquake first-aid, search and rescue and how to work together with his neighbors to use the skills and the neighborhood to make everyone safer. >>henry: at this point, what is the weak link? he says things have gotten better? where is the weak link? >> is still the members of the bay area community. individuals do not take

ocean beach. 694 pacific. in the north bay, 75 degrees. >>marty: in the east bay, nearly 1000 people met to talk about ways to lower the crime rate. that is all a part of a safety summit where the mayor unveiled a new crime prevention strategy. the meeting comes as half of the oakland the murder rate climbed to 84. nichole shanafelt spoke with city leaders. >> we have to fundamentally change the conditions. >>nichole: that she talks about combating crime as the mayor ruled out a new plan aimed at reducing violence, prostitution and poverty in six neighborhoods within 100 blocks in east and west oakland.

>> block by block, school by school, a child by chiles, it is working throughout the neighborhood. >>nichole: mayor jean claude is working with the interim chief of police to combat crime. part of the plan includes a chp grant that will fund 25 new police officers. >> we cannot arrest our way out of crime, we have to look at other ways to reduce crime. having a laser focus, putting officers in strategic locations where we think the most violent crimes are taking place gives us that opportunity. >>nichole: the plan also involves other agencies including city workers. >> you want city resources in certain areas focusing their efforts.

>>nichole: senior staff has been reassigned to work with the oakland police department. after this presentation, hundreds visited booths and workshops on community policing to learn how to get involved and help out. in oakland, nicotiana felt, kron4 news. >>marty: after yesterday's safety summit, some residents told us their thoughts. >> off if it is going to work, we need parents into the community involved, not just people that are higher authority, that this is their job. we need people to volunteer if they really want change. >> i'm hoping that the people oakland come down to city council and to the mayor said make them adopt these new programs. >> i think that this is a continuation of what has already pre existed and that this is a very poor attempt

>>stanley: a student at this school, the academy of arts and sciences is missing box. >> we have no books for geometry. >>stanley: this is wendy, a junior at a high school. apparently, two weeks into the school year, administrators put it in order for 65 the geometry and 65 precalculus books. for the last eight weeks, according to the principal who refused to go on camera, only one book has arrived. >> there is something going on somewhere. >>stanley: there are old or classroom on the books in the room. 65 students have to share them. since only 32 workbooks arrived, they do not use them. the teacher says this is not the first time he has had to teach without required books. one year, he went entire have a school year with no books. the school principal place blame on a school supplier,

market or crews restore. a year without processed food. imagine that you are this couple. they live in vallejo. they have decided that they were going either grow their own food or go to a farmer's market. here are the results. what was their motive in doing this? >> we wanted to make sure that we knew what our food, what was on our food, where it came from. we also wanted to make sure that the farmers got the money that we sense on the food rather than going through a middleman. >>henry: that is an informed point. when you go into a supermarket, where is that the coming from? >> it is coming from all over the country. they take

it from the farm to a distribution center, as with other distribution center and then to the supermarkets. there are probably four-five people involved. >>henry: ideally, you grow as much of your own food as you can. you have done a remarkable job. you have a quarter of an acre. how is it going? >> it was surprisingly easy. for the last three months, we have produce all of our own food. >>henry: really? >> yes. enough for yourselves? what do you do with the access? >> we grow just enough. we have a lot going on and we do tell the neighbors. it is more of a broad. we do have animals, sometimes it gets a little loud. we give gulf produce to them.

>>henry: do you have any idea how much you have saved? >> we have produced about $9,000 worth of food. iwhen he takes out what we have said, we have a net savings of about $4,000. we have saved another $4,000 by not going to digress restore. >>henry: for how much work is it? how much effort? how many hours do you fit into it? >> before the growing season, in the early spring and late winter, there is a lot of work to get this will prepare. two-three days to get it going and said, the critters are on a regular schedule. they are pretty easy. in a couple of weekends to get everything in the grounds. >> it probably averages an
