ramp or upper deck of the bay bridge. all of the on route have been shut down. the traffic is being forced off at fremont, sits or night street. they are not even letting traffic get to the central freeway. you could also use army cesar chavez as an on ramp there were injuries from the other vehicles that have been
6:18 am
involved in the crash. there could also be damaged on the roadway. again, avoid the westbound bay bridge. here, you can see traffic is backing up towards the incline section of the bridge but it is solid all the way from yerba buena island. >>erica: i am going to keep things on the bay bridge traffic is a virtually stopped. we do not recommend taking the bay bridge. use the san mateo bridge, that is probably your best bet. traffic is heavier than usual into the drive time is higher than usual. 18-19 minutes from end to end. at the golden gate bridge, southbound 101, no problems to contend

the pavement will also have an impact. this is affecting the westbound bay bridge that is now stopped from the island into san francisco. traffic is being forced off of the bay bridge onto city streets. you will be forced to take either the ninth street or fit street on ramsps. do not get on 101 unless it is out of hospital curve. we have reporters on the scene and will tran is checking at the traffic that is being forced on to city streets. it is creating a nightmare downtown. >>mark: international news, schools are closed because there are wild exotic

6:31 am
driver of the tanker truck but suffered only minor injuries. >>mark: it could have been worse. the question now is, is there any idea on when 101 southbound will be reopened? >>officer: it is undetermined at this moment but caltrans and the chp are working diligently to get that open as quickly as possible. we do not want to compromise the safety of the public. caltrans will have to have their engineers check the area to make sure the roadway is safe and chp has to ensure that we conduct a thorough investigation. >>mark: is the caltrans engineer on seen yet? >>officer: yes, they are on scene. >>mark: @ thank you for your time as we watch and wait for the accident investigation and see what happens and when the road we can reopen.

6:33 am
>>jackie: avoid this area at all costs. as soon as we get new information we will pass it along. >>mark: the traffic that you see moving is northbound 101. a major traffic headache going through san francisco. darya and george are in the traffic center. >>george: this is the north end of hospital curves. the traffic coming in from the octavia street express becomes this way. this skyway of the upper deck comes here. traffic on the bay bridge westbound has stopped at treasure island. traffic is bumper to bumper. that is because the traffic is being forced off of the freeway by caltrans and the
6:34 am
chp. and they are being forced off at fifth street and ninth street. will tran is with us, live on fifth street. >>will: here is the traffic on fifth street. you can see that the traffic is backed up. headlights for as far as i conceive. i spoke with some people stuck in traffic and asked them, how long did it take just to get to this intersection, one gentleman told me it took him 10 minutes from paris and to hear. a perfect world that might take 30 seconds maybe 45 maybe they should bring someone out here to allow traffic to flow through. many people are trying to avoid this area. it is a
6:35 am
bumper to bumper. cars are barely moving along. as far as getting on to the freeway, the on rams have been closed. that is fourth street. there are authorities there making sure people do not get on. there is a lot of confusion. many people that would normally get onto a certain on rampant cannot do that because it is shut down. people really have to think about the geography of san francisco. there is a lot of confusion going on this morning and a lot of backups. it seems like people are being patient.
6:36 am
>>george: your best bet is to head down potrero to army cesar chavez and get on 101 software used in a state to a downtown san francisco. the easiest way to access that is embarcadero past the stadium.
6:37 am
>>george: erica has word of another hot spot on your ride towards the bay bridge. >>erica: another hot spot just popped up. it is not showing on our traffic maps, westbound 80 ride after powell street, a motorcycle accident with injuries reported. the motorcycle collided with a big rig. three lanes have been blocked. a sig-alert has not been issued yet. we
6:38 am
recommend using the sanitarium bridge. bit heavier than usual.
6:39 am
>>mark: we will be right back as the kron 4 morning news continues.
6:40 am
6:41 am
6:42 am
>>george: we are tracking a major hot spot on a 101 san francisco southbound, completely shut down. has been closed for a 1 hour 45 minutes. some people are trapped on the skyway and the central freeway for at least that long. no indication about how early they will be able to reopen the lanes. there is an overturned tanker. according to jackie sissel, it was
6:43 am
hauling agricultural cement. the fire was the cab of the diesel tank. officials still have to clear the roadway and determine whether or not there has been damaged. in the meantime traffic continues to back up for san francisco. this is a look at the fifth street on a ramp. the back of is to yerba buena island. it is at a standstill. use an alternate to get into san francisco this morning. the kron 4 news will be right back.
6:44 am
6:45 am
6:46 am
>>mark: and overturned a cement truck in san francisco. here was the scene during the 5:00 a.m. hour. the cab of the truck caught on fire. 101 southbound is shut down. the fire is out, we are continuing to watch the
6:47 am
latest. the back up is the real concern. >>darya: we are looking live at the scene. there are emergency vehicles on the move. it looks like a fire truck is leaving that they will not be clearing this anytime soon. >>george: this fire truck was standing by at the closure. this is the same camera that showed us first the back up and then the closure and then, we saw the fire and saw that extinguished. they were aided by fire trucks on city streets. this is a shot from jackie sissel, you can see the cab where the fire occurred. the fire is
6:48 am
extinguished, but the tanker has to be righted a and cleared. the roadway needs to be inspected and all of that has to occur before they are able to reopen the skyway or 101 southbound. will tran is standing by at the fifth street offramp. >>will: this is the offramp to fifth street. earlier, we had a chance to talk to a driver at the intersection and i asked him how long it took to get here and he said it took him about 10 minutes or so. without this accident and a perfect world and made only taken 30 seconds or so. it is not getting pretty anytime soon. the light is moving so quickly. if they
6:49 am
want to avoid this, they can stay on the freeway. here is the deck of the freeway. it is bumper to bumper and slow going. this city streets have the feel of a noon, we are seeing countless cars that would normally be on the deck down to the city streets trying to hop back on to the freeway. >>george: the will cool room is because people are getting off at either night street or exiting towards the central freeway. all of the on rats here, here and here are all shut down. the only way out of town on the
6:50 am
freeway is to use the 280 extension and get on essex street workings street and use 101 south of army cesar chavez. you could use potrero. that is a recommended route. we mentioned to the bay bridge, you can see this westbound ride, it looks good heading out towards yerba buena islands but from there it is virtually stop and go all across the upper deck into downtown san francisco. let's check other traffic. we have had news of an earlier current hot spot. >>george: westbound 80 at the 580-80 split involving a motorcycle and a big rig has been cleared. it looks like the damage has already been done. let's take a look at our live camera. allow
6:51 am
yourself extra time coming down the east shore freeway. on the bay bridge in clyde, traffic is heavy and a bit slow. traffic has virtually stopped. we do not recommend taking the bay bridge. use the san mateo bridge as an alternate. a little heavier than normal. drive times have increased 18-19 minutes from end to end. the golden gate bridge, southbound 101, delay free with space between cars. we do not have any slowing to tell you about out of marin county.
6:52 am
>>james: in san jose, overcast conditions and cloud cover. here is what the satellite view is showing us as we approach 7 am. we have a somewhat cloudy skies. temperatures this afternoon will be cooler. the coldest day of the week today with oakland getting up to about 70 degrees. 72 for he ran into fremont.
6:53 am
6:54 am
6:55 am
6:56 am
>>george: as we head towards seven a m. we are still tracking a major hot spots, the closure of i 101 southbound. this is the reason why. the cab of this a big rig was on fire about an hour and a half ago. it has been extinguished but it still has to be determined whether or not there was damage to the underlying roadway. that is the reason for the closure. the
6:57 am
accident occurred now two hours ago. to get through san francisco, what do you do? you will have to use interstate to 80 the kings street or six street or get off 101 at fifth and ninth, head over to potrero. but we also have slowed traffic onto a the end of 101 northbound heading into san francisco. this has created a visual hazard. at fifth street you have traffic trying to get off the upper deck of the bay bridge which is backed up to the central anchorage. it is a mess through san francisco. if
6:58 am
you need to get into the city use the san mateo bridge or golden gate bridge as an alternate.
