are expecting people to be there. the district expects students to attend a classic dance, they also said that so far 260 teachers have asked for the day off. that is allowable in their contract and the district says that those clauses will be filled by substitutes, nevertheless they say those teachers had to make their requests well in advance. >> teachers had to file for a personal leave days by close of business on monday, october 31st. we have substitutes to make sure there is proper supervision there. >>dan: how many teachers will actually be there tomorrow to teach the students? the district is encouraging parents to send their kids to school. i just got off the phone with the

oakland teachers union. they say that they expect 500 or more teachers to be out of class tomorrow. the district has said that they have substitutes in their back pocket, on call and they're hoping to have all classes covered regardless. the bottom line is, parents are encouraged to send their students to school tomorrow. teachers who will be attending the general strike, there class's are expected to be covered by substitutes. dan kerman, kron4 is. >>pam: a day before this planned general strike, the union representing oakland police officers issued an open letter to the citizens of oakland. that letter criticizes mayor jean quan and her handling of the situation at frank ogawa plaza. the union president explains.
