just before midnight. at 12158 employees were told to use gas and beanbag bullets to the protesters out. police say at 12:10 pm the

order was given to use tear gas in beanbag bullets on the crowd. the running battle lasted for hours. >>reporter: cops arrested 80 people charging some of them of felony vandalism. five protesters and three officers were injured by the time order was restored. around 4:00 a.m. city workers moved in to board up the building and clean up debris. occupy oakland protesters joined them in scrubbing the graffiti off the buildings. some of the people with brushes and but did say that they were not responsible for the tagging with it will not condemn those who work.

were arrested last night police will now be looking to determine exactly who these violent protesters are in hopes of making arrests. the president of the oakland chamber of commerce has some harsh words for city leaders about this general strike as well as occupy oakland movement overall. he says that three companies have abandoned plans to come to oakland because of the violence. he says the city must take action to stop the suffering. >> we are very disappointed and distressed over the damage that has been done. the intimidation that has prevailed to customers of wealth--wells fargo, and the whole food stores. i'm very disappointed the city did not take a stronger hand. what i am hearing from the business community is that there is great disappointment that they have empower the protesters by letting them do they want to do. they have no restrictions in place and therefore they have gone to do what they want to do and

that has been a major problem for the business community. we had at least three tenets that i know of that are not coming to oakland. they were in the final stages and they said we are pulling out. a 100 employee company a 35,000 sq. ft. tenet, a 15,000 sq. ft. tenant and those are major dollars for building owners who invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in our city. thousands of people come to town to enjoy the restaurants, bars, the art galleries. there are a lot of great things going on in oakland. this one group is creating havoc and needs to change, the camp must close. >>pam: the chamber of commerce president added that in addition to vandalisms several businesses reported that they had missing merchandise. our team coverage continues at the port of oakland. pour leaders say they're fully operational after protesters shut down the port yesterday, big rig to a stop in their tracks when the demonstrators converged on

the port. maureen kelly explains how there were some lingering delays as a handful of protesters tried to keep their action going. >>reporter: there were tense moments as occupy oakland protesters stood in from a person trying to drive on to the port this morning who apparently pushed past the chain-link fence blocking the road with. one of the port entrance is was barricaded in the force truckers to turnaround and is slowdown of dockers preparing for duty. here the longshoremen union president showed up and convince the protesters that they got their point across. since then, there has been a steady stream of truckers bringing in cargo that they cannot drop off the day before and hauling of containers that have been sitting on the docks since wednesday night. the port since there is a little bit

not about devising a new plan to fix some of the problems that they've had in the past couple weeks this is about listening to those folks with occupy oakland and about listening to some of the folks in the community on their input on some of their ideas. and then take those ideas to the drawing table and come up with a plan that is suitable. a lot of the council members that i talked with said that some of the violence that we have had in the past two weeks is just not tolerable and not representing the city very well at this point. one of the reasons that is why the city council meeting was called again, this city council meeting that has just started in the last 10 minutes and so i'll go back upstairs and bring you updates as i get them. reporting live in oakland i am j.r. stone with kron4 news. >>pam: as you might imagine small business owners have been scrambling all day trying to deal with the damage done to their stores. ronald referred run the business in the cathedral building off broadway and someone knocked out a window there. she

tells us this is a very stressful situation especially since you're--she supports the principle of the occupy open group. >> and i am definitely a small business and along with other retail hot issues in this area-cause-and along with other retail spaces in this area we supported occupy oakland. from a small business perspective they understand the their ninth is hurting big corporations they're hurting the small companies that are trying to fight the same thing that they're trying to fight. so, i am trying to do is build a business and my brother is going to come down and help thick windows. i really want to encourage other small- business people to get together and if there's anything that people can do to help, bring out cameras, screwdrivers, paintbrushes, sponges and help clean up and not continue to mess of stuff that we are trying to build.

>>pam: she says that she hopes to gather of several other small-business owners to help one another with all the repairs. the port of oakland was shut down in yesterday's action was a scene of some tension this morning as because a small handful protesters they overnight. here you can see how they block people were trying to drive to the docks to work this morning. the demonstrated to down their barricade about 9:00 a.m. after the president from the longshoremen's union got involved. since then there has been a steady stream of trucks moving car go in and out of the dock area. a spokesperson says that they're now fully operational and slowly getting back to normal. the city will not know the economic impact of wednesday's action until sometime next week. a >>reporter: ramon anderson was one of the drivers stuck in his big rig during

wednesday's court shut down. today he is one of the many independent truckers trying to make up for lost time. >> this is like a today set back because a lot of money to operate these trucks and you know for us it is a another loss. >>reporter: truckdrivers were not the only ones getting squeezed, this a soul food and are right next to the port had to shorten their hours and close on wednesday and the owner could not open up until late thursday afternoon because of the small handful protesters that kept the street closed when the morning shift showed up for work. >> this is a small business in we are our most businesses right now we're trying to hang in there and having to shut down that cost us money. >>reporter: both support the general idea behind the occupy movement but are frustrated that they have to suffer as a result. >> we support with the protesters are about but we

are a small business and we cannot afford to be shut down. >> i think they have a point, but it is kind of hurting the 99 we are part of the 99% we are trying to earn a living in take care of our families to. >>reporter: this just in to the kron4 newsroom, more than 100 people were arrested yesterday and open. oakland mayor jean quan in the city administrator justin issuing a statement on the latest protests and violence saying we are deeply saddened by incidents of vandalism that affected some downtown businesses caused by isolated individuals intending on violence and destruction while hiding an estimated 7000 peaceful demonstrators late last night the oakland police were able to isolate an arrest 101 violent protesters. they went on to apologize to local businesses and thank them for their continued support. that is the latest from the oakland mayor jean quan. >>pam: our coverage of

the >> the people that did this are not representative of the majority of the people involved in this. i have lived here most of my life this is my home. >>kimberlee: as you've heard, yesterday's march in demonstrations were mainly peaceful until yesterday's evening. i have you to the video showing what happened when the police moved in to clear the at--to clear out

the protesters. you heard this reference before it looks and sounds like a war zone. there were crowds of people ducking, later in the video you start to see heavier police presence. as the camera moves over you can see right over here a couple lines because of police officers in full riot gear with a mask on. peaceful there, but over here the protesters are moving forward. they're moving towards the police and someone is trying to pull him back to make sure does not escalate any further. a lot of the protesters are gesturing and yelling. this video did not show any escalation but however the police remain on one side and the protesters on the other. >>catherine: the occupy movement has been he of nationwide. in tulsa oklahoma more than one dozen protesters were arrested last night. officers told the crowd to leave a downtown park at 11:00 p.m.

and they did not go. they were taken into custody. the protesters say they will be back at park again tonight. in baltimore it is getting pretty cold, the protesters are now without power. city officials shut off electricity at this camp site last night. they said there were too many fire hazards. despite the frosty weather, demonstrators say they're not going anywhere. last week city rulers said it was not safe for them to stay here but they have decided not to leave. in washington, the people there took their protest to the white house. protesters said the money can be used for things like health care and job creation. >> we will go outside to the golden gate bridge we have a lot of cloud coverage

out there. it is mostly cloudy throughout the bay area and cold, we have seen temperatures dropped as much as 20 degrees. this is a storm system right here, you can see from our satellite and radar this is producing sprinkled throughout the bay area there are much cooler temperatures in some snow out there in the sierra. as we take a look at future past, let us take a look at storm tracker. this is where we are right now the rain has moved down to the south bay. we see a little bit of precipitation east, there is more rain on the way. as we progress in to the evening we still have a few scattered showers out through the peninsula. by tonight will be mostly clear by 10:00 expect to see clear conditions throughout the bay area. we may have a few scattered showers that may linger into tomorrow morning do not expect to see a lot rain, but definitely expect to see much cooler temperatures throughout the bay area. coming up will talk more about what you can expect for the weekend.

>>reporter: continuing our coverage here are five the office of emergency services, the mayor jean quan said that wednesday's event was predominantly peaceful that turn rowdy at the hands of a few violent protesters. >> in very small group of people can create chaos and a huge demonstration to try to destroy a peaceful even. >>reporter: here in oakland this whole area was shut down as a part of the occupy oakland wednesday night strike. some demonstrators kept one interests of the port close until about 8:30 a.m. this morning since then truckers and dock workers have been busy loading and unloading containers and bringing cargo in and out of the port trying to catch up from wednesday's debate. >>reporter: continuing our coverage of the oakland chamber of commerce, the

chamber president had some harsh words for city leaders. he says because they have not taken charge city leaders, they must understand a several small businesses may have to shut down. he said the three companies that plan to move to oakland had not decided to call off any type of negotiation. he said it is about time that the leaders take charging close down the camp. in oakland i am teresa estacio with kron4 news. >>reporter: here in oakland around city hall they're continuing to board up windows and replace windows that were trashed during the midnight clash between some protesters and the police. and all authorities are saying more than 80 people were arrested as a result and they're still looking for others. in oakland and then permit with kron4 news. >>reporter: in oakland we have learned that last week's police raid cost the taxpayer $700,000 and that is just for the police. we're waiting to hear from

the city administrator about how to clean up costs were for wednesday. the mayor says that this impact their overtime fund of most severely impact the community. >> we do not have a lot of extra money this will mean that the community will get less services. >>reporter: in oakland the occupy message lost some credibility last night following the violence of property damage that was done by a group of vandals. some were reluctant to condemn the people responsible. it's hard to get a direct answer because there is no leadership for the group most of the people's the--most of the people here say that vandalism is not a part of their message. >>reporter: this building is at jason to the frank ogawa plaza. he said early wednesday morning he confronted protesters as

they tried to break in. he was carrying a shotgun. >> i had the shotgun at my side, i had to cock it one time and then they left. >>pam: here is stanley roberts to founts of people behaving badly. >>stanley: 99% of the people involved in the protests are not responsible for what i am about to show you. 99 percent of them did not break windows or spray- painted graffiti on the windows and doors or set fire to dumpsters. the 99 percent had absolutely nothing to do with the oakland police, or breaking the windows but because of the reaction of the 1% a voice of the 99 percent have been drowned out and that is sad. >> this has sent out a bad

reputation already. this is not call for. >>stanley: mom and pop store owners were warned about the 1% and not to open on november 2nd or face consequences many of the shops like this one or closed and they still faced vandalism. >>stanley: when they hurt the business financially it hurts the community financially so it is contradictory. even the people part of the occupy oakland movement were taken by surprise. there was a splinter group that goes by the name--most are not even from california and they're not even from oakland. that is the 1% then stole the voice of the 99% and respect the city of oakland.

>> the graffiti in the violence is not really supporting the movement. >>stanley: this is dave left the office in oakland and was deported to see what happened. the truth is i stay away from the hole occupied movement because i believe everyone have the right to protest but no one, no one has the right to steal your voice or tear up your community ever. in oakland, i am stanley roberts with kron4 news. >>reporter: here in pleasanton the search continues for a missing teenager, 15 year-old shelby harris did not come home after leaving her high school on monday. she is thought to be travelling with this 25 year old gavin the fate who is wanted on a felony warrant. the police would not comment on that warrant for the relationship between harris and mcfate.
