are looking at san francisco mayoral candidate adlai. he has a commanding lead this morning in the mayor's race against a field of 15 candidates. does he have enough? he does not. look at the numbers. he has 44,451 votes which is well ahead of the other zero front runners but it is only 31.3% and not the 50 + 1 that he needs to win outright. that means the rank choice voting system will now take and.

>>erica: we are expecting temperatures to get into the low seventies in some locations. we do have to deal with cold weather in the meantime. temperatures are near freezing. it is a cold start to the morning. for the most part temperatures will be in the upper 60s and low 70's. we have the potential for wet weather as we get closer to friday and the weekend. downtown oakland is probably the warmest spot on the map.

>>erica: 66 is the common number for santa rosa and novato. i do want to show you future cast 4. everyone is wondering when the wet weather will have as. by 2:00 a.m. on friday will be drive around the bay area. that changes as we head into the morning. we will be waking up to rain near the peninsula and coastline. check out the heavy rain indicated by the red on the screen. we will continue to see showers throughout a good portion of the date. your 7 day around the bay forecast shows mild conditions for wednesday and thursday. temperatures could get into the '70s however everything changes by friday. wet weather for the most of the day and scattered showers as we headed to the weekend. temperatures will be in the low 60s for your highs, inland in the 40's and

'50's. for monday and tuesday, partly cloudy conditions with no wet weather and a forecast. the time right now is 6 of 3:00 a.m.. george has a look at traffic. >>george: it has been an easy ride around the bay area although the volume continues to build. let's start hour bridge check at the bay bridge toll plaza. it is not unusual to see what we have already, a bit of a backup in the cash lane is. they could start to occur on the right side. it is likely that in about 10 minutes or so we will see the metering lights activated. that is the typical time for them to get turned on. but the next at your ride on the san mateo bridge, highway 92, there was a stall reported on the san mateo bridge but because of the shoulders on the left and right hand side, oftentimes you can have a

salt reported and not have a completely block the bridge which is exactly what happened this morning. the stall is likely already out of the traffic lanes and onto the shoulder. the commute to the golden gate bridge looks good. there are no delays coming inbound. the volume for this early hour seems a little bit like for the southbound 101 ride. a check on the east bay, the traffic maps have just been refreshed. we are looking at zero delays. south bay traffic, that will probably disappear before the committee begins. in marin, conditions are great. 101 southbound, no problems or delays southbound in

december fell from novato. >>darya: now, the very latest out of the occupy oakland did movement. mayor jean quan is once again asking protesters to meet with city officials. she said she is concerned that the encampment has cost the city about $1 million already and that tab is rising. will tran is live, taking a look outside of frank ogawa plaza. what is it that she wants to have happen? >>will: she wants to meet with them to work out a peaceful compromise. she also wants some of the people there to be accountable. she wants the community to police themselves. it was a lot of vandalism that took place.

ever since this happened, downtown businesses claimed they have lost 40 percent of their business. reportedly shoplifting is on the rise. ironically, i spoke with the people this morning who said they probably will not be with her because they do not have a leader. this is a movement and one guy claims that he started occupy oakland last summer but when i tried to get him on camera he said, i have nothing to say. the mayor is feeling

pressure from the businesses as well as the chamber of commerce. about $1 million is just for police overtime. justine >> inspired by the occupy wall street and occupy oakland protests, there is a group that plans to establish an encampment at the university of california in berkeley. the group is made up of students, faculty, teachers, a university workers as well as community members. they have planned two days worth of action. organizers say that this is in response to potential fee increases for uc students and cut to all levels of public education. coming up, we will tell you about how the president plans to make cuts. >>james: we are going to

it took them two days to find a leak. i am not clear as to how long this will take. we're heading into rush hour. >>darya: what kind of danger with there have been had this not been discovered? >>craig: they were saying that this is not something that would have caused an immediate risk, but the want to increase pressure one disk is back to being a normal working the line. it wants to make sure the lights are safe enough. when you find something like this it raises the question about the risk of public safety.

>>mark: the opening bell rang just moments ago. dow futures and did not look positive. dow futures earlier were down more than two did points. not just in u.s. markets, the european markets. the dow was down 180 points. we have dropped down below 12,000. the nasdaq is down 64. >>darya: you are looking here at san francisco mayoral candidate a league meeting his headquarters last night. he is ahead. the

problem is he does not have enough to win. here are the top three candidates. 100 percent of precincts have recorded. he is only winning by 31.3%. that is not the 50 percent plus one vote that he needs to outright win. now, their rank thule's voting system kickstand. >>mark: longtime sheriff michael hennessey is stepping down. like in the mayor's race, none of the candidates got the 50% + vote. they will have to go to a wide choice of voting.

also, the race for sanford cisco district attorney, that's going is currently holding that job. he was running for reelection. he is leading the pack at 42%. he did not get the 50 percent either. again, it rank choice voting will decide the difference. >>darya: spending bonds also up for vote. also in san francisco, a $240 billion bond measure for road repaving industry safety fame before voters and scott a. yes. we have a new mayor

inland. 6:36 a.m., george is here with a look at the ride. >>george: a pretty good ride around the bay area. we have not tracked in the hot spots. the metering lights have been active for about 25 minutes. the back that reaches to the end of the east parking lot. there are no delays on the approaches. the 880 approach is your best for the bay bridge. there are no problems heading eastbound. >>george: 101 in marin county is a problem free.

>>george: the ride on 101 to the south bay looks good. southbound 101 has not yet back up through marinwood. the drive times are still under 30 minutes. >>darya: let's go to the latest happenings in the occupy oakland movement. the mayor wants to meet with leaders to work out some sort of understanding. the problem is, since there are no leaders in this bill did. will tran is at the occupy oakland frank ogawa plaza. the last time that we saw the mayor near this group of protesters, she was booed. >>will: she is hoping to meet with them. she has been hands off since last week. i

have been here for only a day or so, but you cannot even walk around the encampment without tripping on something. >>will: i spoke with one man who said he has been here since day one. listen to what he had to say. >> if there is a need to talk to a group of people, >>will: is there a leader that could be found? >> i think that we all have something to say. we live in a time where everyone has a sterile perspective of their own issue whether it is your bank, a social issues where you want to be said. free food every day or free health care is difficult to get.

>>will: you can hear him say, there are so many people here but different agendas it seems like no one is on the same page. those who have spoken to the media say they are not trusted the mayor quan. this comes after the chamber of commerce told the mayor-she is being held responsible and they want to work out a peaceful compromise. many businesses have threatened not to come to oakland. they have lost $1 million so far in police overtime not to mention how much business they could lose in the future.

>>james: pg&e is out after another leak was detected, craig skalar is live with more on the repair work that has been done. >>craig: they excavated this site in palo alto over night. they have been working for hours using a blowtorch. i spoke with someone at pg&e, they tell me that the size of the whole is about the size of a no. 2 pencil. they said it is on the bottom side of the line in to that is taking a while. this is a 22 ft. stretch of pipeline that was perhaps reconditioned.

they are unsure if this is that section. in the meantime, the traffic coming in from to 80 is not bad. they have closed in one lane the traffic will only be picking up as we pushed through the morning. for the time being, the situation is they continue to work with contract workers on this stretch, a mile and a house from another line that broke on sunday. they were doing hydrostatic testing. for the time being, the work continues. >>james: have you heard from them now that they have gone

good news is, as we work our way to the afternoon, mostly sunshine. as we head into the overnight hours, partly cloudy conditions. here is a look at current temperatures right outside the door. for the most part, 30's and 40's, even 50s here and there. santa rosa is one of our cold response. >>erica: by 8:00 a.m. we will still be holding on to

the upper 32 is towards lunch, the blue indicates temperatures warming into the upper 50s into the north bay and down the peninsula, squeezing out 60s for inland and south bay locations. by 3:00 p.m. for the most part everyone will be sitting comfortably in the '60s. as we check out exactly where the rain will impact us, by 2:00 a.m. on friday we are dry. that will change by the time you wake up. by 7:00 a.m., wet weather impacted the coastline and pushing its way closer to the peninsula. by 9:00 a.m. the yellow and red indicates pretty heavy downpour. take a look at downtown san francisco. it looks like they will be getting hit the hardest. showers will remain with us three good portion of the day. your 7 day

around the bay forecast shows rain and not only for friday, but stretching into the weekend as well. we have potential for scattered showers with temperatures on the low side. for the most part, '50s around the bay. >>george: we are still not tracking any hot spot. a pretty good ride for most of the bay area. on the bay bridge, the westbound ride, that is the best indication of how good things are. the 880 ramp has no backup except in the right hand lanes. that always backs up. that is traffic light of for the toll plaza. despite the line is it pretty quick way through. the san mateo bridge is still looks good. you will see that the commute is lighter than usual westbound. the last

check on the golden gate was a problem free. as we have noted this morning, southbound volume seems a little bit like. the northbound ride is problem free with no delays. the east a traffic, starting with the ride on 101 in marin county, you will see that the commute is still sluggish as you head for marinwood. the south bay ride on 101 northbound, look at this ride on 85, no delays headed towards cupertino and continued into mountain view. it is still a smith commute. he's a traffic is an easy ride for your trip on 680 southbound into walnut creek. the time is 6:50 a.m., we will take a break and we will be back with more. new
