4:02 am
looks like we could be in store for a chilly weekend. this is the seven day around
4:03 am
the bay. not erica on to traffic. >>erica: good morning to you. the chp has issued dense fog advisories for all bay area bridges that includes the san until bridge this morning. believe it when you see it, that is actually the thick fog, you can barely make out the signs. now over at the golden gate bridge you can see that excessive falk, drive with extra caution. as the ticket that are traffic maps we have some overnight construction in effect. the good news is that traffic is light in the area we are not seen any slowdowns whatsoever. >>justine: thank you erica we have a developing story that has been having overnight coming out of las angeles were hundreds of police officers are moving in right now to clear out the occupy protesters from the encampment at city hall.
4:04 am
demonstrators were told to move several days ago. eventually officers and helmets holding batons converged on the part and there was a military decision that was used before making arrests. more than 200 protesters were arrested just this morning. the las angeles in canada has been in place for some 60 days have become the largest remaining after police raided the park on december 15th and dismantled a nearly two month old camp. >>james: a major decision for the occupy protesters. reggie kumar has details. >>reporter: before moving to 1950 mission st. the city of san francisco was hoping that occupy sf would sign this agreement requiring each protester to follow a
4:05 am
list of 17 demands which include no panhandling or loitering. the tense need to be appropriately. no animals were pets are allowed and inspectors must be given access to examine and evaluate the site on a daily basis including inside the tents. but the occupiers say that they refuse to sign it. >> as a personal opinion i understand defending justin herman plaza at the first amendment right and i understand that i think the mission site could be a good thing for occupy and i do not think those things are mutually exclusive as a personal opinion. >> the city is consistently undermining as when the offer us alternatives it is true course of force and is simply a trap. they're setting unrealistic expectations threatening to rape us if we do not come through.
4:06 am
>>james: protesters in oakland were in a standoff with the police about placing a tepee in the plaza. protesters wanted as a symbolic place to hold a vigil but they say no one will be using it overnight. in l.a. we now have protesters in the trees. that is the latest development has just been just updated you on the story to minutes ago. one police officer has a gun pointed upward. there are targeting those protesters in the trees. we will follow the latest, of course to the people were arrested as the police moved in to break up that encampment earlier this morning. students involved in this november 9th protest at uc-berkeley have filed a federal lawsuit against the university for what they say was brutality by campus police. ironically despite the ongoing protest on monday the uc board of regents approved several
4:07 am
raises, the vice chancellor of each university will receive a 9.9 percent raise one in from dean will receive a seven and a half percent raise, and six uc attorneys received a raise from 4.4% up to 21.9% they say it was necessary to keep the page and line with market rates. for >>justine: there is new information about the black friday robbery in the wal- mart parking lot that happen in san leandro. police have not released this picture of the shooter they say he is still on list this morning. watson and his alleged accomplice tony phillips was arrested on friday and appear before a judge on tuesday. here is a new surveillance video release from the parking lot of that what. you can see first that a fight breaks out and then a person goes down on the ground seconds later the gunman did in the getaway car and leaves the scene. police say watson and other men were trying to rob the
4:08 am
family of jewelry and cash in the early morning shopping hours. this was on black friday and the victim was shot in the neck after being approached by the group of men. you can see him here, he has been released from the hospital. >>james: we will take a quick break but first to give you a live look outside. our big story this morning deals with the weather. we have two things to talk about first, the fog and the other is the wind that we will experience later this morning and this afternoon we will have more on that coming up. when we come back the latest on american airlines and its recent filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
4:09 am
4:10 am
>>justine: here is a live look at the bay bridge we could barely make out the headlights. we are following
4:11 am
this dense fog brought the morning and then will switch our focus to the high winds and how pg&e is responding. >>james: american airlines became the latest carrier to file for bankruptcy. the company says in the short term customers won't notice the difference but as catherine reports of big changes could be on the way. >>catherine: american airlines says the planes will still fly and their tickets will still be honored. if you have frequent flyer miles, that will remain intact. the chapter 11 filing could cause some not so good changes in the months ahead. there is a real possibility that american could follow the path of other major carriers like united and continental, northwest and delta. and they could shop around for another airline to merge with. one air fare watchdog says that that would directly affect passengers. >> airline consolidation means that air fare will go
4:12 am
up and in some cases more cities will lose their service altogether. >>catherine: other possible impacts to today's actions, american airlines could consolidate some of its routes and employees will be asked to make pay and pension concessions. many of america's competitors have gone down this path before. delta, united and northwest of all file for bankruptcy in greasy years and making matters worse, american airlines says that its labor costs were $800 million per year higher than the other air carriers. >> they are the only big airlines not to have gone through bankruptcy so they stuck with the old legacy cost and they could not get out of that. they could not get out of that with their union people so now they have to do under the supervision of a judge. >>catherine: this was the world's largest airline as
4:13 am
recently as 2006 but mergers have pushed into third place is now behind continental, united and delta airlines. >>justine: we will take a quick break on the kron4 morning news as we take a live look outside at a very foggy golden gate bridge. erica will have an update on the hot spot that could affect your commute if you plan on taking the golden gate bridge she will update us on that and we'll talk more about the weather right after this. for over 60,000 california foster children,

>>reporter: i can barely see the fog out your. and rufus we thought the fall was not going to be quicker is thicker than yesterday.
4:17 am
>>james: here is the golden gate bridge kama, this is the visibility as your heading south bound 10 wonder the tunnel. >>reporter: it has been about 100 ft. the whole way down. the visibility is down near zero for the whole ride. you cannot even drive the speed limit. as i came through waldo curve in through the tunnel everyone's lamp on the brakes i have been sitting there for about 17 minutes. >>justine: mark we hope to get to work safely. we will see you at 5:00 a.m. all things considered. >>james: the thing that he said, you should leave yourself some stopping distance, you come up on this traffic at a stop in front of you and you do not have time to stop fast. >>justine: to update us more on this accident that mark sought and all the other hot spots here is erica. >>erica: good morning i have been checking the chp
4:18 am
traffic law, all current lanes are blocked. the chp does not have any answer on when those lanes will be open. you want to allow yourself a cushion and a lot of extra time unfortunately the traffic maps are not showing a slowdown but i have been checking twitter and people have been saying that the back up stems into mill valley. we see very slow and go conditions over a 25 minute delays. i'll make a call into the chp to see if i can gather more information but this is a serious for a car crash injuries are reported and ambulances are on the scene. here are other conditions around the bay area. here are did fog advisories. you are going to want to drive with extra caution and mindful of the cars in front of you so that we do not get into any more major accidents. on the san mateo bridge, you can see a couple
4:19 am
lights making their way towards hayward. the lights are there to show you that there is dense fog out there. here is dan, good morning. >> good morning erica we have another shot at the james lick camera we see cars coming in at south bound 101. for your weather headlines we have the dense fog advisory in effect. in fact the extended it, it was supposed to end at 7:00 a.m. but it looks like 9:00 a.m. is when that will start to clear up and that is because of the gusting winds that we have coming in we have really high winds coming in very strong expected for later this afternoon and the overnight hours. as we take a look at the fog tracker you can see the of fog picking up here. by 7:00
4:20 am
a.m. this morning, as the push for the fog will completely starts to dissipate. we can look and noontime today no-fault to speak of and that is because of the gusting winds that we will have coming in. we have a strong wind advisory in place for this afternoon it looks like from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow night we are anticipating strong winds to come in. we're looking at when gus to sustain that 20 to 45 mph. it look like to have when a gust to 50 to 70 mi. per hour so we are expecting some down trees and power lines. and we may see some power outages later today as well. high temperatures do not look that bad. we have 63 for redwood city, 66 from our view, 65 and los gatos and i'm thinking the numbers could be a little bit deceptive because of the wind chill factor want to factor that in mind expected to fill a lot cooler than the temperatures indicate.
4:21 am
looking ahead for your kron4 seven day around the bay forecast we do have the morning fog and the winds will pick up around noon time. the winner will sustain from thursday evening into this weekend. it looks like all that will clear out and not a lot of fog and wind, but not very warm unfortunately. now let us send it back to justin. >>justine: we have new details and the shooting of seven people including a child in oakland. the almost two year old boy is being identified this morning as hiram lawrence. he is shot in the head and in a coma and in critical condition we are hearing from the boy's family members about what they're going through. >> is is carried in the he is pulling through it, through the prayers that everyone is sending the family definitely appreciated. >> knowing they cannot even walked out and were your kids cannot even be safe anymore i live in the city of oakland and with this
4:22 am
going on it makes me scared to walk my daughter to the store is crazy. >>justine: meanwhile the bay area rapper kafani arps--is calling this a senseless. two of his cousins were injured including the little boy. he says that they were driving the van with his face on it but he was not there. he says he wants this to stop. >> words cannot express how angry we are and how we wish this had not happened. what i saw from the latest carrier is seen like three guys went up there and started shooting it did not seem like they had a targeted to seem like they were shooting. at the end of the day i had people asking me where the shooting at your van? and i said i doubt it had anything to do with me. they said it was a music video my cousin and his associates were supposed to be shooting a music video i not know if it was his song
4:23 am
or their song i do not know the details but all i know say he was supposed to shoot a music video and that is why my promotion bus was down there. record >>reporter: do you know any of the other victims? >> i did not know who the other victims are but i know my cousin was shot. and for the use in oakland, this is crazy this is crazy for anyone to get shot before to happen to young kids and for people to have no regard to human life or any regard to kids, it is a time and place for everything but it is night time and place when you have kids running around and kids getting shot and injured that is crazy. >>james: we will have more news coming up here in just a minute. i want to take a quick break. >>erica: one of the lens has been opened but the right lane is criminal to traffic we are seeing major delays
4:24 am
coming out of mill valley i would have major developments on the hot spot coming up after the break.
4:25 am
4:26 am
4:27 am
4:28 am
4:29 am
4:30 am
the lanes were originally blocked but it looks like the chp has managed to open the far left-hand lane so traffic is squeezing by this is a fresh update of our traffic maps. you can see all the red building on your screen with speeds as low as three mouse power. very slow and go conditions. i have been talking with the viewers and they have been hearing from their loved ones, and they say this accident looks like it is backing up and to mail
4:31 am
ballots. chp is on the scene trying to clear all the lanes but they denied any estimated time of when the lanes will reopen. at the golden gate bridge just a couple of cars are getting by. a dense fog of rising has been issued for this bridge you want to drive with extra caution to avoid major accidents in the future. as the tech other accidents around the bay area we do not have any other hot spots to tell you advisories issued and the only one current and not affected in any of bridge this morning. your ride out of oakland and san francisco is full of fog, you can see handful of cars making their way towards the toll plaza flats with no metering lights to deal with just yet the traffic is a bit slow up the incline in the upper deck. as he take it over to the san mateo bridge or what you can make out of it, you can definitely see headlights on the right-hand side of your screen and this message sign has been activated to reflect the dense fog. certainly drive
4:32 am
with extra caution this drive is still running 15 minutes from into in across the span. the time right now is for 30 1:00 a.m.. we haven't check on whether. >> the morning caracol lot of what i have confirms what you have. you can see the soft condition than we have the fog advisory in place until about 9:00 a.m. this morning at which point we have a strong wind starting to move in. the wind will continue to the overnight hours but now looking at the visibly around the bay. we talk with mark a little while ago coming out of the north bay we are showing two tenths of a mile of visibility and he was telling us about 100 ft. maybe 0 ft. coming down on south bound 101 through the north meg. we have really low visibility and that continues into the east bay and the south bay and all weapons to the peninsula. sfo is looking at about 1 mi. visibility at this time. the strong yen will start to move in and that could cause some sfo delays as well.
4:33 am
about 7:00 a.m. and not too bad acceptance san jose we could see wind gusts up to 60 m.p.h. but pushing ahead later on today. by 11:00 a.m. it looks like we have a strong wind gusts of around the bay. really, interstate 80 will foot most. if you're heading out there later definitely be where. we have 21 mi. per hour wind gusts by 11:00 a.m. this morning. by the evening hours and 8:00 tonight it will get even worse. we have a very strong wind gusts widespread around the bay area. like i said, these conditions will continue in the overnight hours. these conditions
4:34 am
should start to clear up by friday. and today's highs, it looks like will be in about the mid-60s. >> these temperatures may be a little deceptive once you factor in the wind chill and in my star filial more chilly then we're looking at. but still 654 navato expected in 63 degrees in san francisco. for your seven day around the forecasts we have the early morning fog burning off by midday. we have strong winds that will become a very big story today and into tomorrow. however, after thursday it looks like the wind will start to clear out and we will have pretty calm weather through the weekend. >>james: thank you very much not developing story out of southern california in los angeles were hundreds of police moved in to clear out the occupy protesters that camp near city hall and this video shows the video
4:35 am
there. demonstrators wore ordered to leave two days ago but eventually adjutancy on your screen police arrived and thousands of them were in right here carrying nonlethal weapons. they converged on the part in all directions and some describe this as military precision they began to make arrests immediately. this in kama has been in place for some 60 days in has become the largest remaining after the police were paid--after the police raided the park and that in kamen had enough for two months. and this video shows some arrested this morning as people were being evicted from the park. at last count police took some to wonder protesters into custody. i believe we have some live pictures coming in and the police are not only dismantling the camp but they're trying to coax protesters down out of trees. they had moved some of their supplies in the trees in the park and they're they're refusing to come down. we will have to
4:36 am
follow the latest into happens as the morning progresses. in philadelphia occupy protesters were on the streets yesterday after the police told everyone to get out of the camp that was set up near city hall. protesters were given a deadline to leave by monday when they did not, the police moved in and no word on any arrest, but the site has been needed to be cleared for some construction plan. >>justine: there is also a major decision for the occupy protesters where they will allow the city to move them from justin herman plaza to a.c. approve place in the mission district. reggie kumar has the story >>reporter: reporter before moving to 1950 mission st. the city of san francisco was hoping that occupy sf would sign this agreement requiring each protester to follow in this of 17 demands which include no panhandling or law ordering, tins need to be spaced appropriately, no animals or
4:37 am
pets allowed, and inspectors from the ph and the fire department must be given access to examine and evaluate the site on a daily basis including inside of the tens. but the occupiers say that they refuse to sign it. >> as a personal opinion i understand the finning justin herman plaza at the first amendment right, and i do understand that the mission site could be a good thing for occupy and i cannot think those things are mutually exclusive that is a personal opinion. >> the city is consistently undermining us, they are offering alternatives that it's a course of force and simply a trap setting unrealistic expectations and threatening to rape us if we do not come through. >>justine: meanwhile an open 880 for occupy protesters has been allowed to stay at frank ogawa plaza at least for awhile. police were in a standoff about placing the tepee in the plaza. the city issued a three day permit to allow the also reiterated
4:38 am
ground rules for demonstrations there. protesters want this as a symbolic place to hold vigils but they said no one will be sleeping there. also this morning, the memorial service for a police officer that was killed in line of duty will be today. officer james capoot was fatally shot while chasing an armed bank robbery suspect through a north vallejo neighborhood on november 17th. the funeral for the 19 year veteran will be held today. the man suspected of shooting and killing the officer has been charged with murder with for special circumstances including murdering a police officer during a robbery. we will have full coverage on his funeral tonight on the kron4 evening news. in danville, more real services for a marine that--memorial services for the lance corporal joshi chorale will be at the east bay fellowship church at 12:30
4:39 am
p.m. and it is open to the public. he graduated lacher from san ramon valley high school. the 19 year-old on his first tour of duty in afghanistan when he was killed during combat operations just two weeks ago. >>james: we will take a break here and just a reminder of how fog he is outside this morning we have a live picture. will tran is driving on 880 in san jose these are live pictures from his dashboard and you can see how obscured the view is this morning. the careful as for driving around harding and out--we already had an accident this morning.

4:46 am
and visibility becomes very little. >>james: good point yolie and i will mention that the fog gets pretty bad when you cross over the bridges. we will have more from yolie and the other reporters giving as a live view of the fog in the skit with the latest with adjusting. >>justine: we want to talk with error cut about the accident she was talking about at the waldorf eternal.--waldo tunnel. >>erica: conditions have returned to yellow and can speed averaging about 30 to 35 mi. power. the cigar alert has been cancelled all the cars have been moved out of the roadways we see some minor residual delayed at this hour. in fact, traffic in a little bit slow coming off the golden gate bridge still south bound 101. the chp has reported visibility less than 50 ft.. drive with
4:47 am
extra caution in a dense fog advisory has been issued for this bridge in most bay area bridges. we have a handful cars making their way out oakland for san francisco right now they're driving kind of fast the that is really not recommended because of what we saw. now we do not have any metering lights to deal with the traffic is moving slowly up the incline and across the upper deck because the fog is extremely dense in that area. as we take a look at the san mateo bridge west bound 92, you can barely make out the tell like making their way out towards foster city. as a result, this message side has been activated to reflect that dense fog. if you are thinking about taking public transit today that is a good alternative to. we do not have any delays to report for any transit stations this morning. >>reporter: i look for a camera that did not have a

visibility. the only exception would have would be out near the san ramon valley in livermore where we have some clearing this morning. those live along this portion of 680 probably from danville down to dublin and pleasanton your ok. and the 580 stretched so far is alright but everyone else is dealing with dense fog, visibility is down to about one-fifth of a mile or less. but did that, to test in oakland, mountain view, san jose and you can get the idea a lot of the communities are full of dense fog. sfo has 1 mi. visibility but that could deteriorate as the progress and to the morning. the other thing that we are following is the wind. i want to rent the current wednesday. at this point is not that bad, that is why the fog is being allowed to sit in the valleys around the bay. we have zero to eight my per hour winds, so for now but as we go to the day the wind will pick up and as we have a wind advisory that will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on thursday. for
5:01 am
the next two days, will deal with strong winds and they will get stronger as the day goes. the win between 20 mph and 40 mph is steady. that is hospital when will be in it could wind gusts up to 50 or 70 mph depending on how high you are in elevation. the on the lookout for down trees or branches that could bring down power lines. we have high-profile vehicles for the evening commute that could have a tough time crossing the bridges as the wind blows in from the north. that could shake it move you from one lane to the other. we have really strong wind gusts program for later on tonight. and just briefly on want to point out the seven day around the bay, the forecast is very stable for thursday and beyond. the we can looks great. we have a thick fog this morning and two days worth of really strong winds to get through before we get to the pleasant weather. now let us find out about traffic the morning erica. >>erica: the morning james,
5:02 am
