>>jackie: i am at the embarcadero looking back over justin herman plaza. you can see it workers with pressure walkers--with pressure washers. it is basically empty at this point. you can see the garbage truck and department of public works employees during trash, i counted at least five garbage trucks and multiple flatbed trucks loaded with debris. the chief of police called this area a public health hazard. dozens of tents ran inside the plaza at around 1:00 a.m. before police moved in. now, it is basically empty. you can see dozens of workers sweeping up debris. a lot of the material was personal

belongings. the other issue is, it is starting to get close to commute time. there's only one line open on the embarcadero. we are expecting to see hundreds of people pouring off of those ferries relatively soon. the police presence on market street is basically gone but there are still a lot of people in the plaza itself. it will be interesting to see what happens when the commuters' start arriving. >>will: i am on the other side of the jackie. you can

see over here, the garbage trucks are busy. they are removing a lot of the degree that has accumulated over the weeks and months. they are power washing. market street is open for business, they are allowing traffic to move through. there are no police officers standing in the middle of the roadway, as far as the occupiers, we showed you drop the morning, many of them standing in the middle of the street, they were told to go on the sidewalk. the sidewalk is free for business. people are moving about. the bart station is right in front of me. i ask people if the trains were running and they said yes, they had no idea about what took place this morning when officers moved in. 70-75 people were

arrested. here is what the chief said about why officers decided to move in this morning. >> communications with the mayor's office pretty much broke off yesterday. obviously this situation became escalated when officers were attacked last thursday. this had been a public health hazard and was becoming a public safety hazard outside. with communications breaking off, something had happened. >> something did happen. they moved in, gave them warning and then arrested people. so much so, they have to bring in a bus to removed dozens of people that refused to leave the encampment, now, it is a

very calm. we do not know where the occupiers have moved to. a handful of them decided to leave the area. they left here but they were basically chaperoned by officers who saw what was going on. looks like the number of officers and occupiers have dwindled dramatically. there are only a handful of workers here directing traffic. >>darya: since you were one of the first reporters on

the scene, how would you compare the way things was handled this morning? >>mark: this was very swift. they moved in and it was very secretive. on like occupy oakland, they almost stood in the middle of the street and a beard the police officers to come. this happened out of the blue. keep in mind, the people of occupy san francisco have been less hostile and more willing to work with city management and the people in oakland. they moved in and arrested people who refused to leave the area. aggravated assaults probably means

>>darya: welcome back. our live team coverage continues of the occupy san francisco movement and their raid on the encampment that moved protesters out of justin herman plaza. there were 70-75 protesters arrested. everything went peacefully. the operation was swift. you can see the police moving in and taking away protesters in a bus. most of the arrests were peaceful. now,

the clean-up begins. that is what the focus news this morning. most of the protesters have moved out. there are a few still on the sidewalks. police and public works are out there cleaning out the clause are right now. we're back with more in a couple of minutes. ha

bus. that is when the number jumped from 30 to 75 arrests. we did get a chance to talk with some of the protesters who were here when police officers moved in. here is what they had to say. >> it was not right. they stepped all over the constitution. i watched several police officers assault people for no reason just for walking down the sidewalk. other people were sitting on the sidewalk. that is what the police told us to do. they came around the corner, they through everyone's belongings into a garbage truck. we're going to reoccupied. we still have san francisco state, castro

and the view. >> we are following the the latest, every angle of the occupy protests. >> they are trying to get all the cleaned up and ready for the public. jackie sissel has been watching that operations. >> you can see workers for the dpw with their power washers, i am on the embarcadero side of the protests. darya, this is video that was shot not too long ago. you can see dozens of workers from the department of public works tearing down the fence. now, you can see what the clause cell looks like after dozens of tents or taken down. you can see them throwing

leftover debris into multiple garbage trucks. i would guess somewhere between five and seven of those. they have flat bed trucks to take away the debris that has accumulated. this was considered a public health hazard according to the chiefs, he estimates that it will be a while before is safe for people to be back out here. there are multiple things going on, there is only one lane of traffic here on the embarcadero. there are trucks and buses back up here. the commuters coming off of the ferry building, we had about 100 or so of them walking through the plaza. there are still 20-25 protesters in

the clause that right now that have come back over there. as those commuters were coming through the plaza, they were being engaged by the protesters. right now, it is not only a traffic issue, department of public works are trying to clear up the plaza. it is obviously a developing story. >> the occupy people have already made it clear that they could walk right back in. is there anything to stop them?

>> that is the deterrent. there is a group of protesters, somewhere between 20 and 25. as commuters come off of the ferry building they have to pass through this plaza. the police did not do anything, they stood their ground. i do not see any fencing or barricades. there are our washing trucks, i do not see any large trucks would barricades or fencing. >>justine: we are hearing that the removal was mostly

try to accumulate yesterday went into space overnight. cold temperatures in the 30's and 40's. this afternoon in many ways will be a carbon copy of yesterday. sunny and mild. it looks like the weather will remain quiet as we head into the weekend. even into next week, a fairly stable weather with no storm system headed our way for the foreseeable future. if you look at the current temperature map you will see freezing is now below freezing temperatures. santa rosa, nev., fairfield, concord, livermore, those locations are at or below freezing. the freeze warning is primarily for the delta and the central valley. our valleys to the north in the east could very well see freezing temperatures as we already see indicated. this afternoon will be really nice. on the cool side of

justin herman plaza. there are some protesters who are still there just on the edge of the plaza at the embarcadero and market streets spot in the crosswalk. commuters are coming by thin have a chance to go buy them. we have heard some shouting has gone on. will tran anh was there earlier this morning after the arrests have been. about 70-75 protesters cleared out from the plaza. there is a bit police presence. we will continue to keep our eyes on what happens there and if there are any clashes with passers-by tried to get to their jobs or with the police who want to maintain their presence to keep the protesters out. we will be back with more in a couple of minutes. do not go away.
