4:17 am
current temperatures are just skirting the current temperatures. oakland is only looking at 36 degrees right now. and for your future cast temperatures will push ahead to 9:00 a.m., you can still see widespread 40 in the north bay and east bay as well. the only place that was the '50s is along the coast, san francisco to daly city and redwood city as well pushing ahead to noon time it looked like much everyone is going to get that 50 degree temperature. as you can see there is not a lot of grain on the map. it is still one to be pretty chilly for your afternoon hours, and then into the evening we can see the colder temperatures starting to push in the '40's mostly along the delta and north bay as well. by the overnight hours, while 11:00 p.m. tonight was to the 30 degree temperatures but not that bright pink which would indicate subfreezing temperatures. pushing in the overnight
4:18 am
hours we will see a little bit of the purple developing. for the rest of us were looking into the low 40 degrees. for your high temperatures today we're looking at 60 degrees redwood city, 56 that half moon bay and then 60 degrees expected for livermore. in the north bay it is not a lot better. >>reporter: your kron4 seven day around the forecast indicates not a lot of change when the couple of degrees warmer and just in time for the weekend which may be nice. temperatures are not getting too high above 60 degrees. early into next week will have increased cloud coverage. it looks like the temperatures might dip a little bit for sunday and monday. that trend will continue for most of next week. time now is empty net after four or eight amber good morning
4:19 am
america.--up the time right now is 18 minutes after 4:00 a.m., good morning america. >>erica: the morning, traffic is flowing freely was he the tillites making their way out toward san francisco there are no metering lights to deal with here. hand over to the san mateo bridge was equally good conditions a lot of space between cars among those tell lies out towards foster city in taking this over to the golden gate bridge south bound 101 is moving well, traffic is that the limit. i have been checking the traffic maps and we have seen a top speed coming out of navato and pass highway 37. that right is under 24 minutes down towards san francisco and over to the traffic match we go, west bound 580 will be very--moving very well.
4:20 am
>>james: did you hear that? pretty loud and pretty destructive. miss lusters of the utah power toys in their experiment, in this case they were using a cannon shooting a cannonball and we see on your screen barrels of water to test a theory. the crew was taping a show just a couple of miles from dublin and a wayward cannonball slam from several homes and into the minivan yesterday. this is video of some of the destruction you can see the hole in the wall of one of those homes. the host of the show toward the damage and met with the homeowners. >>reporter: about 3:00 p.m. the myth busters host arrived in dublin to visit the family that lived in
4:21 am
this home or a cannon ball shot through the front door and out the back of the house. fingerboards--the host met with the family for a little under a half hour and got an up close view of the damage that the cannonball caused it raced through the house. >> i cannot imagine how would film his position that i want to be sure that this is taking care of it will never happen again that is exactly what he access and that is what we assured him. >>reporter: the host say at this point they're not sure why the experiment went wrong with the believe it may have to do with the positioning of the cannon. >> we believe at this point this involve something known as muzzle lift, the cannon was aimed at a street and low trajectory right into our barriers it is somehow came up boards. >> again, we have not watched footage in do not
4:22 am
exactly know, we do not have a real idea of whether or not that is because the will be looking into this. >>reporter: this will serve as a reminder of what could happen when an experiment with a cannon ball goes completely wrong. but they see any future experiments with a cannon ball will take place out of this area in fact it will take place somewhere far away from people. >>justine: san francisco police are stepping up patrols in shopping malls especially in union square this is being done to prevent holiday shoppers from becoming victims. >>reporter: the san francisco police department set up mobile to on market street. this was a call from the was filled shopping center on union square. officers are patrolling the area on foot and baikal an effort to stop thieves from snatching recently purchased christmas gifts from unsuspecting holiday
4:23 am
shoppers. officer carlos freddie says that people need to be aware of their surroundings. >> any time during the holiday season will find a slight increase in crime because of the volume of people on the street. we do have our undercover officers that are out there in plain clothing and you know they are. but they are walking around the same shopping centers that the public shops in. we do have our feet officers out there and worked in paris, is a huge crowd, they come from all over, they love shopping here and want to make it very warm and inviting in very safe for them. we provide all this added security for them to make sure that there is no possibility that they could be taken advantage of >>reporter: the extra enforcement in the city will remain in place through the end of december. in san francisco i am reggie kumar with kron4 news. >>justine: we also talked
4:24 am
with holiday shoppers a couple of them said they already know how to protect themselves walking the street. >> i keep my cash and credit cards on me and i and my purse so if my purse could snatch i when i have to worry about death. i do not talk on my cell phone. >> i just make sure i have my personal items close near me like in my pocket never in my purse because it might did snatch and i do not know what would happen. >>justine: here are some safe shopping tips from the police remain alert for using your cell phone and other devices, do not shop alone after dark and keep your wallet in a hard to reach place and leave nothing visible inside your car especially dvd devices, or your purchases may be put them in your trunk. >>james: and we will take a quick break and we have a live view of justin herman plaza that would like to show you, this is where occupy sf had been but obviously it is clear out now. we have that story for
4:25 am
you and we will update you on this area. when we come back, we have a funny look, a twist on the occupy movement, that story in a moment.
4:26 am
4:27 am
4:28 am
4:29 am
4:30 am
4:31 am
>>justine: to discourage the morning, and of the chilly days on the way the first to
4:32 am
some of the developing story. >>james: the customer an update on occupy sf. this morning police say that tends for voluntarily removed and this is after the police are rated it them yesterday monitor--yesterday morning at justin herman plaza. you watch it unfold live on kron4. the crash could not in there, more arrests were made as the occupy protesters attempted to return to the plaza drop the day as they have vowed to do. what a difference a day makes. julie is back out there at the plaza where it looks fairly vacant this morning. >>reporter: all quiet on the occupation front. it is completely clear maybe 20 to 30 minutes ago you saw a machine here just throwing water i guess just to wash out the plaza a little bit. it did hit a couple of the
4:33 am
remaining occupy protesters that were his sleeping. they are allowing them to sleep in the park even though it is officially closed as long as they do not put up a tent, the police do not seem to be coming in and telling them that they have to leave. it is a very few people who are here sleeping tonight. i guess maybe roughly kind of going in now maybe 10 people that i have seen around this area. there is a no tent policy that the police are enforcing. let me show you here, there are like about 10 police patrols in this area. they are parked over here off to the side. you can see one there and then you see a whole line of them over there. a lot of the officers are in the car that they might be patrolling or they could also be in the command center here which i spoke with one officer that told me basically the command center will be here in definitely. they did not know what the time frame is a how long will be out here at the moment, their orders are to stay out here and to
4:34 am
be vigilant and to make sure that if a tentacles of they should take it down. >>james: and the war that there sprang down could serve as a deterrent on a cold morning like this and what ground is not very inviting for someone that only have a sleeping bag and no attempt to try to stay warm. >>reporter: absolutely one of the people out here who was sleeping the water did not hit them with the polls started to run his direction and actually hit his head and he definitely got up very quickly. then he decided to just move over, so that is why a lot of them are up on higher ground over here. the water truck usually comes over from the other side and it basically sprays the front area that you see that i am showing right now where the occupy protesters are marching that is basically where the water was hitting. but it is definitely a great deterrent. >>james: is quiet for now will wait to see what happens as the morning continues. >>justine: these are some of
4:35 am
the scenes from yesterday afternoon as the place to several people into custody outside of the federal reserve bank at market street. demonstrators chanted and march, the protesters returned to the plaza again late last night for another clash with the police even setting up tents that demonstrators gathered around. listed in the ticket down in cape thompson has the rest of the story. >>reporter: the occupy list is that they were there holding a meeting and the police trying to stop them violated their first amendment right. the protesters created a large circle around the police yelling in their faces and taunting them. a handful of people were detained and there were several scuffles with police that were not letting protesters in are out of the ring that they created around the park. and
4:36 am
then suddenly after a three hour standoff the police left the park. a police spokesperson says that the protesters did not understand at the park was closed so the department will let them stay as long as they are peaceful and exercising their first amendment right. >> they can have their first amendment rights however we do not want them to be wrecked the tens. >>justine: in the nation's capital thousands of protesters were upset about what they called corporate greed. they shut down k street in washington d.c. is home to many of the city's influential lobbying firm. police arrested dozens of protesters 60 of the rest were for obstructing a public highway at additional arrest was made for a misdemeanor assault on a police officer. we will turn now to our weather forecast is still really chilly out there and then have all the details. >>reporter: it this morning justine is not freezing but
4:37 am

4:39 am
drive is just 14 minutes from in to and across the span and a look golden gate british south bound 101 shows a lot of space in between cars. traffic is moving at the limit for your entire ride coming out of the north bay. north bound 101 has a smooth ride with no delays to speak of. if he take interstate 280, some patches are dropping and speech drop down to 45 miles per hour. we have some slowing in the east bound direction of 237. the speeds there are doing okay and 40 miles per hour. a preliminary check of public transit shows that most systems are running right on time so no delays to speak of for ac transit, bart or h-p number one this morning. >>james: we will take quick break and we have a live look from our roof camera as we go. more headlines straight ahead and if he just missed weather and traffic and not worry another update is never far

>>james: we are back talking politics. can the new gingrich has a double-digit lead. after spending freely on the tree such as private jets, the gop front runner is scrambling to attract new money. with the first the pulp republican caucus just months away. katherine tells
4:46 am
of how he plans to raise that money fast. >>reporter: new gingrich was in debt $1.2 million between may 11th 20 enough to was running at the end of september. the most eye- popping unpaid bill almost half a million dollars owed to a private jet company named moby. now the former speaker is leading by double-digit margins in three of the first four states. the less than in edible mit romney is trailing and newt gingrich old friends are coming to his financial rescue with a big fund-raiser. host include former appropriations chairman and now lobbyist who nearly replaced new gingrich of the house. he is now raising money for his campaign $1,000 per person. >> we will throw a big party i think he would do well tonight. >>reporter: the question is if he can put enough money and organization in place to get out his vote that matches the front runner
4:47 am
status. >>reporter: all that spending could come back to haunt them he and his wife attracted bad publicity for their seemingly high roller lifestyle. including big bills at tiffany's, a cruise in the greek isles, the $450,000 for private jets although a campaign expense could be used against him. >>reporter: we are seeing a slight change to our weather patterns. the difference is we see a little bit more moisture you could see the headlights coming in and reflecting a little bit off of the bridge that indicates that there's no moisture in the ear and that is keeping temperatures a few degrees warmer than what we have seen but you cannot say it is high by any stretch of the imagination. by this afternoon is very chilly and overnight will have clear and cool conditions not freezing but definitely
4:48 am
chilly outside. and we continue our current temperatures really looking at 34 and santa rosa, 39 in navato, 39 for both napa and fairfield and concord is popping in at 34. hayward we have a mile 35 in san francisco but coming in through san francisco i think it's especially chilling cold outside. for the afternoon it would not be very high at all. 65 from out of you, and low 60s rock the south bay. in the east bay, we are looking for 60 degrees in walnut creek, 62 for danville in san ramon and pleasanton as well. along the peninsula, excuse me more of the east bay. now here is the peninsula, it looks like we are looking for 56 in daly city and
4:49 am
pacifica as well. >>reporter: for your kron4 seven day around the bay forecast we will be getting a change in this trend, not a lot of maybe a few degrees warmer coming into the weekend will looking for 62 for both friday and saturday will dip below the sixties began as a low pressure moves in by early next week and that will keep the temperature is cool but not freezing. erica house traffic looking? >>erica: good morning dan, not to that of the ride, we do not have any major accidents to talk about and we're not seeing any slowdowns. as we taken the kama 40 the approach to the bay bridge toll plaza is moving pretty well out of oakland toward san francisco it currently do not have any metering lights to deal with. the san mateo
4:50 am
bridge has no problems getting through in either direction of the minutes freeway. this right is still does 14 to 15 miss between interstate 0 and 101. over at the golden gate and south someone 01 we seeing few cars with great conditions coming out of the north bay. here on our traffic maps along the peninsula, the bayshore freeway is moving well in both directions. interstate 20 zeroth problem free with no accidents to report. all the green on your screen indicates top speeds out there. for those attacking public transit this morning we're not thinking delays for a fee transit, bart or couch and this morning. >>stanley: this is a sign located on wilson tree in the city of vallejo. it
4:51 am
reads a signal lights are not functioning due to copper wiring test. the sad part, the city actually had to make a sign like this. so now, drivers the flashing red lights at some intersections which is where the problem arises. apparently, some drivers escaped page 20 of the 2011 california driver's manual. you know, the part that instruction drivers what to do when they approach a flashing red light. when drivers come upon a flashing red light is to be treated as a stop sign, you know the red octagon with the word stopped printed on it. but in vallejo, the flashing red light appears to mean slowed down because that is just what many drivers to. like this driver, and this driver, and his driver. in some cases slowing down did not appear to be an option.
4:52 am
for some drivers, it is like they forgot the car even had breaks. now this driver was unique, he just sat there until he got a nudge from another driver but it beach running the red light. and of course, there are the piggyback red light runners, there are just rolling around the driver that actually follow the law. this is creating a safety issue for drivers, so please, for the sake of others if you see a flashing red light come to a complete stop it is the law. >>justine: if you have a story idea for stanley in the best way to reach him is by e-mail, checking out at people behaving badly at kron4.com. we have much more ahead on the kron4 morning news you want to let you know about are fun new year's eve promotion that is coming up first with a live
