>>george: this is where the sensors showed the back up, it is already beyond 98 avenue. it is close to davis and marina boulevard. in my conversations with the people at caltrans, i have learned that they will not be able to get the fourth lane open. jackie sissel is live on the scene. we are looking at heavy equipment and a cave real. is that actually on the freeway or a part of the off ramp? >>jackie: it is down and only two lanes right now. they just opened a second lane. there is a third plane that could possibly be opened the this is a huge joke point to begin with. there is construction all the way down to oak street in this area. if you choke this down to three lanes on a morning commute, that is a recipe for disaster. those rails are not going

anywhere anytime soon. the best that we can hope for are three lanes to this construction is on. that will cause headaches for commuters this morning. >>darya: is there any sign of them being able to pack things out? >>jackie: they are not moving those orioles. it looks like we are stuck with what we have. that is at best three lanes of traffic. this is a bad. to begin with. you will get people who are looking in your losing at least one lane. it is going to be a headache for commuters. >>george: there should be a

minimum of four lanes into this area and sometimes vice. this morning you are going to suffer. east 14th is likely to get jammed up. there is a restriction, big rigs can i use this stretch of roadway. the chp has already released the big rigs to use interstate 580. they will be sharing the roadway. we will see slow traffic on the nimitz all the way back to to 38 and likely even further to the 92 interchange. >>darya:

>>george: it might makes sense to use 101 northbound instead of 880. let's take a quick look at the bridges. the bay bridge westbound, even with a stall, we have not seen much of a back up. your ride on the sanity of bridge is at present a problem free. we have not seen any delays for the westbound ride. the golden gate bridge is an easy commute from brant county. friday is typically a later and later commute from marin county. sometimes we see more traffic northbound. six 03 a.m., let's get a check on the forecast. >>erica: it is a cold start to the morning. some locations are currently at or below the freezing mark, especially into the north bay. patchy fog of the north bay valleys. we will be monitoring that for all the rest of the morning. we have

a slight chance of wet weather as we head into the weekend. here is a look at your current temperatures. we are below freezing in a lot of spots. south of the golden gate bridge, everyone is in the upper '40's and low 30's. earlier this morning, we saw an instance of freezing fog in santa rosa. we have been monitoring that. the droplets could actually freeze on contact with objects. damage to plants is certainly possible. drive extra caution and check eyes on their clothing in your windshield as well. we will be keeping our eyes on that. future cast 4 is set

for 9:00 a.m.. the first chance of what weather is sunday morning. as the advanced the clock closer to lunchtime, in the north bay and south bay, it looks like a clothesline and finance look will be dry. more widespread light rain, everyone getting a healthy dose of wet weather into the evening and overnight hours. your 7 day around the bay forecast shows a wet weather on tap to the weekend and into the middle of next week. we are tracking a storm system wednesday into thursday. temperatures will be sitting in the mid '50s the afternoon and low '30's for the lows. >>mark: the lawyer for the family of a 23 month old

oakland toddler hit by gunfire in a shooting two weeks ago says the decision has been made to take the child off of life support today. craig skalar is joining us live from children's hospital in oakland. >>craig: the attorney has said that. hiram lawrence will be disconnected from life support at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. the announcement came overnight. your pictures of young hiram lawrence, he is a month shy of his first birthday. the family was hoping they could at least last until then. they are at his side in the hospital but he is considered brain-dead by doctors. there is no hope for reviving him. this all occurred a short while ago on november 28th during the summit of a rock video in oakland. according to police, the 15 bullets were sprayed on the scene. the boy was an innocent bystander. several people

were injured including the boy's father. at 1:00 p.m., it is expected that he will be disconnected from life- support at children's hospital. >>justine: prosecutors, if they get their way, they wanted barry bonds to be in prison for more than one year. they have asked a judge to sentence barry bonds is 15 months in prison for his obstruction of justice conviction. the attorney for barry bonds say they believe that is too harsh. they're asking the judge to sentence barry bonds to two years of probation and community service. bonds will on the judge's decision next friday when he appears in court for sentencing.

>>george: welcome back to the kron4 news at 6:15 a.m.. major construction work affecting the nimitz northbound. on high street, construction crews are working overnight and have been unable to finish the job in time for the morning commute. they plan to have three lanes open on the nimitz that even at that, that would leave on one lane taken away from traffic serious that means a major bottleneck for one of the busiest freeways in the bay area. since taking a look at the occurrence fact. it is jammed coming out of san leandro. big rigs are now authorized to use 580. now,

580 is starting to show some strain from the extra traffic that will be using in this morning's. your alternates are international boulevard, interstate 580, that will have already about 15 minutes to the northbound drive time. you could even consider using highway 92 to take you across to the bayshore freeway. the san mateo bridge over to 101 death could actually make sense for some commuters depending on your destination. again, there is no indication that they will be out of the lanes in time for the morning commute and for them to completely finished of roadwork. caltrans hopes to have three lanes available northbound but there is no indication of when and if

the freeway will be completely reopened. >>george: the metering lights are not yet active. your ride on the san mateo bridge is also a pretty good one, it is not as slow as it looks, the camera froze. here is a look at the golden gate bridge. the marin commute is problem free. >>darya: yoli eceves is live at the embarcadero this morning. does anything stick out you other than the cold? third >>yoli: there are a couple of people jogging, they are actually wearing a t-shirt and shorts. it is not that kind of weather unless you are going to be jogging around. you'll definitely

need gloves, scarves, a hat, a couple of layers. it is very cold and apparently i am in one of the hottest places, one of the warmest. >>darya: how about we refer to it as one of the least cold places. >>erica: downtown san francisco is about 10 degrees warmer than lot of other locations. there is no wind to deal with siri ifs that is definitely the place to be. a different picture developed as we head into the afternoon. right now we are dealing with some locations in the upper 20s and low 30's. a lot of north bay spots below freezing. as temperatures are seasonably cool. as we headed the overnight hours we will see clear but cold conditions. here is a look at the numbers. the very frigid temperatures this morning,

still below freezing for santa rosa. everywhere else around the bay area south of the golden gate bridge in the upper 30's and low 40's. will the conditions have improved compared to the last time we looked at them. limited visibility through nevada, right at the 101 into 37 interchange, you could have some hazardous driving conditions. phocis as we advance of the clock closer to the afternoon, lee c. green on the screen through mountain view, san jose, fremont and portions of the north bay. we are clear and dry over the bay

area. we still have high pressure that will largely break down. we could have a wet weather in the forecast. >>mark: the stories we are following, a second suspect wanted in the black friday shooting in san leandro is now in custody after a six hour standoff with police. he was held up inside this home before surrendering. he shot and wounded a man during the course of an attempted robbery in the early morning hours. the victim in the shootings spoke out last night thinking san leandro police. christopher marlowe had to use a cane to walk and was left with a nerve damage and it damaged vocal cords as a result of the shooting. third >> i am doing good. i am happy to be here. third i

used to be a mechanic but now, i cannot do that. at the strength in my right arm. >>mark: thing the family is also tried to contact it woman that helped him the night of the shooting. >>darya: authorities are trying to determine a motive in the shooting of a virginia tech police officer in a campus parking lot. the officer has been identified as a 39 year-old army veteran and the father of five. jerry krause joined at the campus police in 2007, about six months after 33 people were killed in that mass shooting at the school. he was killed after pulling over a driver and a traffic stop. the gunman who was not involved in the traffic stop walked into the parking lot and ambushed the officer. it is believed that

the gunmen then took his own life. >>darya: accusations of child sex abuse against jerry sandusky are raising questions about whether his wife knew about the alleged abuse. one accuser told the grand jury that his wife was at home when he was screaming for help while sandusky was attacking him in a basement bedroom. she called the accusations false and says her husband is innocent. this is video of sandusky arriving home yesterday after posting bail and was released from jail yesterday. and he faces dozens of charges stemming from accusations against boys that he assaulted them on penn state property and elsewhere. >>mark: we will be right back as the kron4 news continues. a program reminder, the countdown to 2012, the countdown is under

>>george: we have been tracking a hot spot on the nimitz freeway 880 northbound. here is a look at traffic headed past high street. see believe it or not, all four lanes have been opened in the northbound direction. they did manage to get the no. 3 and no. 4 lanes open fees even though it did not appear that they would be able to do so. that means that traffic is starting to flow however it is still backed up into san leandro on the nimitz northbound.

>>mark: we are following the latest with occupy protesters, they are still planning to disrupt the port of oakland and its shipping activities once again. here is a video of the last time this happened. this morning, members of occupy oakland will be holding a news conference. organizers say the action is partly intended to show solidarity with an ongoing labor dispute involving the international longshore and warehouse unit. portland of- judge court officials are pleading with protesters not to shut down the court. >>darya: the deadline is approaching for boston protesters. the police have not gone into forcibly remove them yet. there are two protesters arrested this boarding however many occupy members chose to leave on their own before the deadline. only a handful of

>>mark: the opening bell on wall street. leo-as we are looking for a rebound. right now, dow futures are up 35 points. we have a positive start to trading. the dow started below 12,000 at 11,997. >>darya: the big story this morning is the cold weather. the north bay is freezing. as you can see, it is critical. we do have some fog in santa rosa. >>darya: the lawyer for the family of the 23 month old oakland boy who was hit by gunfire two weeks ago says the decision has been made to take the child off of life support to date. efts >>darya: federal prosecutors have asked a judge dissented

barry bonds to prison. prosecutors objected to a probation sentence for the former slugger. instead they want to be sentenced to 15 months in prison. >>george: subject, how many lanes are open now? >>jackie: ic three lanes but there are four open a. there is a lot of construction over night but they have opened all four lanes. there is still a lot of construction material out here. this is a bad area to begin with. we could still see a bad stuff. i know that all four lanes are open, but

people who come through here could hit the brakes a few times. that's the cause and a 48--that could cause an accordion effect. >>george: jackie is right about the backups. this is the delayed leading up to the scene. right now, there is no traffic slowing through the area. the traffic backup is still far south that it picks up pretty good speed. once we see the back of clearing out, we could see that accordion affect with slow traffic through the construction area. remember, this is a part of that big major replacement of the deteriorating duct. this is a part of the major caltrans project. for a while, the

chp had stopped all traffic on 580 westbound. coming out of livermore is a huge problem. because it is friday there has not been quite the same volume of traffic coming from the 2 05 interchange. the overall drive time is perhaps not too adversely affected. this is going to add eight minutes if coming out of livermore towards dublin. here is a look at the bay bridge commute. a slight wait at the pace. it is not likely that you will need to use this as an alternate for the nimitz. we are hopeful that the back of northbound will clear. looking at the right on the golden gate bridge, it isn't easy southbound commute. we

should mention that the earlier occurring problem on its 880 northbound, for a while besieged the authorized big rigs to use 580. that restriction is now back in place. >>erica: it is a spare the air date. wood burning is not allowed. we are dealing with frigid temperatures right now in a lot of locations. we do have a patchy fog forming in the north bay valleys. as we turn our attention into the afternoon hours, a lot of sunshine bay area wide. everyone is topping out in the upper 50s and low 60s. as we turn our attention to the weekend, the slight possibility for all day rainfall as we get closer to sunday. current temperatures right outside the door, some locations are in the twenties right now. we actually saw an instance of

freezing fog in at the 3:00 a.m. hour in santa rosa. we have been monitoring that. off for the most part everyone in the bay area is seeing upper 30's and 40's. into the afternoon, we will see sunshine, not too much in the way of cloud cover. temperatures are similar to what they were yesterday. mountain view could be one of the warmest spots at 65 degrees. 57 expected for those of you in antioch. 59 for those of you in downtown san francisco. future cast 4 is set for 1:00 p.m. on sunday, light rainfall in the south bay. towards the later afternoon hours, it becomes more widespread. we will continue to see what weather. the kron47 day

november 28th while a red video was being filmed. he was an innocent bystander. 15 bullets or sprayed on seen injuring other people. if the family is hoping that they can at least keep him alive until the second birthday, but a hospital and lawyers say there is no sign of life right now. the family is expected to be by the child's side when this happens. it is something you do not want to see but it has unfortunately come to that. >>darya: despite the fact that they have persons of interest, they have made no arrests.

>>justine: ford is recalling 120,000 for fusion and mercury malign sedans because the wheels can fall off. the recall only affects cars with 17 in. steel wheels. federal regulators are saying that the bolts that hold the wheels could fracture causing a vibration. is the vibration is ignored, that can cause the wheels fall off the car. ford says they are not aware of any crashes or injuries because of this problem and if you have any questions you are encouraged to call your dealer. we will take a break on the kron4 news and be right back.

see, all four lanes are open but the traffic is heavy through the construction zone. that was the scene of the lane obstructions that have managed to tie a traffic into san leandro. even though they have listed, even though they have changed the restriction, for a while, big rigs were allowed on interstate 580, but no longer. as jackie sissel forecast, traffic through this construction area is likely to be slow. we could be continuing with problems through the morning on 880 northbound. another a day coming up. >>mark: the valley transportation authority has approved an extension of bart to into the south bay.

>>george: welcome back to the kron4 morning news. lennar continuing to track hot spots in the east bay. the first and worst was a ride on the nimitz and northbound leading past fortnight construction work that left lanes blocked. all lanes are open right now. traffic is slow a bit through the construction area as jackie sissel suggested it might be. the extent of the back of still reaches towards san leandro. we should expect

that start to clear just a bit as a move towards and into the 7:00 a.m. hour. our other hot spots, there is some better news, interstate 580 westbound had all lanes blocked for about 12 minutes. traffic is backed up all the way into livermore from the scene of the crash at the 5 80/680 interchange. if you were hoping for a friday light commute on 580 westbound, you will not get it this morning. because the traffic loads are a little bit lighter than any other day of the week, the backup is not bad at adding 12-16 minutes to your westbound 580 drive time coming from the altamont pass to the dublin interchange. at the bay bridge, it like an easy ride. on the golden gate,

>>erica: downtowns and francisco coming in at 45 degrees. still below freezing in places like santa rosa. damage to plants is possible. as for temperatures, future cast 4 is set for 7:00 a.m.. the purple and pink indicates temperatures in the 20's and '30's in the north bay. it looks like everyone else around the bay area is staying in the '40's and '60's.

>>erica: your afternoon highs will be in the '50s and '60s. as we look at satellite and radar, we are dry and clear. the high pressure will break down and we could have what weather in the forecast as soon as sunday and monday. for the most part temperatures will be staying in the '60s. partly cloudy conditions as we head into the middle of next week. >>darya: in world news, police in india have arrested six hospital officials in connection with a fire at this hospital that killed 73 people. those hospital workers are accused of abandoning patients during the blaze that broke out earlier today. the six officials from the hospital have been charged with homicide. investigators say the fire started in the building's basement. a total

of 160 patients were inside a hospital at the time. >>darya: the japanese prime minister will declare the tsunami that hid the nuclear plant as stable. they think that by the end of the year that will be the case. the three melted reactor cores at the fukushima plant have fallen below the boiling point and the radiation leak has subsided since the quake and tsunami that hit back in march. some nuclear experts question that claim because not very much is known about the nuclear fuel condition. the official announcement is expected sometime next week. >>mark: there is a 54 second video from november of last year of a retired investigator that was

witnessing in and around. the u.s. has no idea who has him. the associated press delayed reporting is video for over a year because the u.s. government said that it would jeopardize efforts to bring him home. those efforts have not installed and his wife plans to release a video to appeal to the kidnappers. he was a private detective working under ron investigating cigarette smuggling. >>justine: fraud is now showing of the u.s. drown that went down in the country. it is largely intact. the drone was captured by iranian officials while on a surveillance mission over the country. the embarrassing mishaps has not the sophisticated technology into iranian hands and provided public evidence that this kind of spying is going on. pentagon officials
