traffic travel the bay bridge into san francisco earlier today. we sped up the pictures of you could see how heavy the traffic was. it was definitely a headache driving on the roads today. we will go back live to candlestick park in just a few moments the first we want to check in with george, he is here tonight with a look at the have the hot spots. >> george: we are in the grip of a number of hot spots, the heavy traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza actually began earlier in the day. here's a look at what is happening in downtown san francisco. this traffic is coming off of the upper deck and tried to head southwards towards candlestick point and the candlestick causeway and the park. this in about central freeway is back up all the weight to the expressway. again, this is a live look once more at the bay bridge toll plaza and the incline. you can see the slow traffic heading up the ramp, it last all the way across the upper deck. that is really just

the beginning of this slow traffic. we will pick up the traffic maps to explain the extent of the hot spots. look at interstate 80 that is back all the east shore freeway well before golden gate fields. the macarthur maze is even back up. i am trying to get to the upper deck of the bay bridge that slow traffic continues from san francisco right down to candlestick point and you can see that is where the slow traffic south bound ins. it is also heavy traffic on the northbound side and we are jammed up from the sierra point parkway as you try to get north along the candlestick causeway. it is likely that with the game tied at 6:00 p.m. we will see so much residual slow traffic because of the fact that it coincides with a rush hour. i think this hotspot will be with us for a while. >>pam: we went out to talk with some of the drivers that got stuck in today's traffic led us here with few of them have to say.

this progresses, we will have very cold conditions pushing up towards chicago and very heavy snowfall. as you can see right here the purple your screen indicates a blizzard warning. it is widespread and stretching over four states up to 24 in. of new snow. it will be very gusty with the winds and the visibility. right now the only delays are in dallas and houston as i mentioned. we do not see delays in denver which is good news. this will progress in to the east and the travel delays could stretch over to chicago and the east coast in the next couple days, we will keep you posted. >>reporter: fortunately the weather cooperated as the crews are working on the bay bridge celebrated a huge moment the first tranche of the main cable is being installed this week. one by one this trend will be pulled up and over at the tower cable and then

eventually, this trends and the cable will support the self acre suspension span. i want you to check this out, this is a picture of a portion of the main cable. it is almost 3 ft. across, look at that it is huge. each of those little circular things that you see in the middle, each of those are called strands. now we give you a closer look at the suspension span cable. >> this is what the cable is made up of, wires that form strands that form a cable to. >>reporter: this cable was designed to foil--to hold the new bay bridge. the cable is 2.6 ft. wide and and it has 137 strands each comprised of 127 steel wires like these that you see here and it weighs over 5,000 t. caltrans

open one person was killed and several others were hurt. this was in at least six separated shootings over the weekend. this was where they happen. it looked at 1:00 p.m. sunday afternoon right in the middle of the afternoon and the sane and here with as well as 3:00 p.m. saturday. now, 3:00 p.m. on saturday, these are not like overnight or late at night, the oakland police say that they are out investigating these multiple crimes. they talk with us today about whether there's any connection between the violent episodes. >>reporter: --arm >> it is still too early to tell investigators have been working through the weekend to find out what the common theme is in the shootings. is there a common thread that program and runs into the shootings and right now does not appear so during the investigation we will find out what's the cause. we have not made any arrests

but we do need witnesses come forward. anyone out there that has seen something may know something, please contact the oakland police department. >>reporter: police are looking for witnesses and suspects in all of the shootings. >>pam: san francisco police are meeting with the community to explain why officers shot and killed a man last week. the men shop on wednesday was later--he later died from his injuries officers say he fired at them after a traffic stop after he was running away. the community meeting is being held at more than police station that started at 1:00 p.m.. there are two opportunities to donate to the family of the slain police officer jim capoot. the veteran police officer from vallejo was killed on november 17th while chasing a big race suspect. the peace officer alliance is hosting a dinner fund raiser in walnut creek this evening. it is from 5:00

this power outage what is going on? >>reporter: i have been waiting along with a lot of of of people, sfpd has told people to stay in their seats. they're working on the situation with the power company. now the lights that are on our some of the escalator lights. but the thing is, the escalator is not want him to want to show you some of the big crowds that are outside and this was a 5:30 p.m. kickoff, or it is want to be a 5:30 p.m. kickoff in is a santa maria right now some of those people are not going into the stadium because of the light problems. some of the lights have come back on, can see them in the distance of those at the escalator. but not all the have a. and i am looking up above about 100 ft. in the ear right now, comes your--i can seat about 100 ft. up in the air and it appears that some of the lights are coming back on. but what i do know, from

we sped up the video to show you how long of a line the vehicles have been in. this has been all day long. >> george: we are looking at a high spot of major proportions. it really is affecting traffic all over the east bay, but the cause of it is at candlestick park. mrs. san francisco traffic and you are looking at the james lick freeway coming off of the sky way and off of the upper deck of the bay bridge. look at how it is moving type is south bound out of the city. at this traffic is backed up all the way to the expressway. here are the current conditions at the bay bridge. this is really only part of the story. and you can see how it is just crawling up the incline section. freak of take a look at the back up, it reaches cruising and arthur made on interstate 580. it is back up like a very bad morning commute trying to

the stadium, look it that it's almost pitch black. what happened was a transformer blew outside the stadium and cause all the lights to go out it took about half an hour for them to get out of the lights back on. they are all now, the game was delayed in his monday night football against the 49ers in the pittsburgh steelers. that game is expected to start at about 6:00 p.m.. this is a live picture of some of the fan's going into the stadium there were camped outside when the lights went out. but now, the crews have everything in order and the games will start shortly. we will be back with more news on kron4.

limit is 40 miles per hour the chp says that the drivers are going to fast through this dangerous section of the bridge. >>reporter: in and other big story a woman is discover cleaning to live in the oakland estuary. she later died and now the plan to try to figure out who she was, what happened to her and whether or not she was murdered. this is the dress that the woman was wearing when she was discovered by a security person down here at jack london square. the dress is fairly unique. police are hoping that someone will recognize the dress and call to find out the woman's identity. they will use toxicology reports to try and determine how the woman died.
