traffic travel the bay bridge into san francisco earlier today. we sped up the pictures of you could see how heavy the traffic was. it was definitely a headache driving on the roads today. we will go back live to candlestick park in just a few moments the first we want to check in with george, he is here tonight with a look at the have the hot spots. >> george: we are in the grip of a number of hot spots, the heavy traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza actually began earlier in the day. here's a look at what is happening in downtown san francisco. this traffic is coming off of the upper deck and tried to head southwards towards candlestick point and the candlestick causeway and the park. this in about central freeway is back up all the weight to the expressway. again, this is a live look once more at the bay bridge toll plaza and the incline. you can see the slow traffic heading up the ramp, it last all the way across the upper deck. that is really just

the beginning of this slow traffic. we will pick up the traffic maps to explain the extent of the hot spots. look at interstate 80 that is back all the east shore freeway well before golden gate fields. the macarthur maze is even back up. i am trying to get to the upper deck of the bay bridge that slow traffic continues from san francisco right down to candlestick point and you can see that is where the slow traffic south bound ins. it is also heavy traffic on the northbound side and we are jammed up from the sierra point parkway as you try to get north along the candlestick causeway. it is likely that with the game tied at 6:00 p.m. we will see so much residual slow traffic because of the fact that it coincides with a rush hour. i think this hotspot will be with us for a while. >>pam: we went out to talk with some of the drivers that got stuck in today's traffic led us here with few of them have to say.

>> i have been waiting for about 40 minutes. this is insane. >> i am coming from richmond i have been in here for about one hour. i've tried to get to the airport. >>pam: when you make your flight? >> i dunno i have to get home before 6:00 p.m.. >>pam: we have jet are still standing by with the 49ers and distiller fans have been waiting for this state. >>reporter: as you can see i am surrounded by 40 niners fans, they have been in the parking lot a long waiting for this game. i have been talking with the people in this is what they have to say, they are ready for this game. >> i am working on my side to say sorry for my boys, they really want to be here but it is my birthday. >>reporter: you sent i have

this progresses, we will have very cold conditions pushing up towards chicago and very heavy snowfall. as you can see right here the purple your screen indicates a blizzard warning. it is widespread and stretching over four states up to 24 in. of new snow. it will be very gusty with the winds and the visibility. right now the only delays are in dallas and houston as i mentioned. we do not see delays in denver which is good news. this will progress in to the east and the travel delays could stretch over to chicago and the east coast in the next couple days, we will keep you posted. >>reporter: fortunately the weather cooperated as the crews are working on the bay bridge celebrated a huge moment the first tranche of the main cable is being installed this week. one by one this trend will be pulled up and over at the tower cable and then

eventually, this trends and the cable will support the self acre suspension span. i want you to check this out, this is a picture of a portion of the main cable. it is almost 3 ft. across, look at that it is huge. each of those little circular things that you see in the middle, each of those are called strands. now we give you a closer look at the suspension span cable. >> this is what the cable is made up of, wires that form strands that form a cable to. >>reporter: this cable was designed to foil--to hold the new bay bridge. the cable is 2.6 ft. wide and and it has 137 strands each comprised of 127 steel wires like these that you see here and it weighs over 5,000 t. caltrans

open one person was killed and several others were hurt. this was in at least six separated shootings over the weekend. this was where they happen. it looked at 1:00 p.m. sunday afternoon right in the middle of the afternoon and the sane and here with as well as 3:00 p.m. saturday. now, 3:00 p.m. on saturday, these are not like overnight or late at night, the oakland police say that they are out investigating these multiple crimes. they talk with us today about whether there's any connection between the violent episodes. >>reporter: --arm >> it is still too early to tell investigators have been working through the weekend to find out what the common theme is in the shootings. is there a common thread that program and runs into the shootings and right now does not appear so during the investigation we will find out what's the cause. we have not made any arrests

this power outage what is going on? >>reporter: i have been waiting along with a lot of of of people, sfpd has told people to stay in their seats. they're working on the situation with the power company. now the lights that are on our some of the escalator lights. but the thing is, the escalator is not want him to want to show you some of the big crowds that are outside and this was a 5:30 p.m. kickoff, or it is want to be a 5:30 p.m. kickoff in is a santa maria right now some of those people are not going into the stadium because of the light problems. some of the lights have come back on, can see them in the distance of those at the escalator. but not all the have a. and i am looking up above about 100 ft. in the ear right now, comes your--i can seat about 100 ft. up in the air and it appears that some of the lights are coming back on. but what i do know, from

standing here just like so many other people who are standing here and waiting and hoping that they will get all the power back so that they can go back inside the stadium and get things rolling, but right now it is just a standstill. when more of the lights go back on we will hear a cheering. it was really loud out here earlier. at 5:00 p.m. we had all these fans, and so many people are excited i think they are still excited about this game. and right now usually at this time with a start about 5:30 p.m. you hear all kinds of noise. but again, you are looking at all of these people and there are hundreds of people waiting outside to get inside of the stadium. as we get updates from the power company and from the police, we will let you know. i can hear in the distance that there is talking on the loudspeaker is sort of hard to hear from the outside of the stadium where there are so many people waiting to get in and waiting to take

we sped up the video to show you how long of a line the vehicles have been in. this has been all day long. >> george: we are looking at a high spot of major proportions. it really is affecting traffic all over the east bay, but the cause of it is at candlestick park. mrs. san francisco traffic and you are looking at the james lick freeway coming off of the sky way and off of the upper deck of the bay bridge. look at how it is moving type is south bound out of the city. at this traffic is backed up all the way to the expressway. here are the current conditions at the bay bridge. this is really only part of the story. and you can see how it is just crawling up the incline section. freak of take a look at the back up, it reaches cruising and arthur made on interstate 580. it is back up like a very bad morning commute trying to

get into the city. and north bound 880 is low. take a look at the rest of 101 south bound. it will be solid all the way down to candlestick and the north bound ride is back up beyond south san francisco almost back up in to san bruno for the north bound ride. a delayed start to the game because of the power outage that you'll be hearing more about. pam >> this is just outside candlestick park. apparently a transformer blew. they said it looked as though fireworks went off when a transformer blew. we do not know any injuries associated with that. we do know that the crews are trying to the lights back on. the san francisco 49ers are slated to play the pittsburgh steelers tonight. we will keep you posted and be back

conditions at the bay bridge toll plaza it is back up through the macarthur maze of like a bad morning commute. even interstate 80 is backed up beyond the golden gate fields. look at san francisco traffic, through the city is only now starting to move a little bit better. but this is still a very bad ride coming through the city. picking up a shot now take a look at the traffic near the park. this is the north bound ride. joining us on the kron4 news right now is our reporter who has been stuck in that traffic where haven't tried tried screaming?--where have you

been trying to drive? >>reporter: i am on the bay bridge, i started with drivers that were in this traffic mess. we started in richmond for about an hour basically moving at the same pace. right now, i left emeryville about 5:15 p.m.. right now i am just approaching were still on the bay bridge approach in san francisco. this is one of those moments when you want to be paid for when you have those fast track passes into the metering lights are on and if you are in the fast track laying you are moving pretty quickly. there are meant to delay and i have talked with many and on the road in the city were trying to go to the gym, on the airport and now they're

back on, the transmitter blue, they got the city engineers on it. they fixed it, and now the lights are back on, pam back to you. >>reporter: we want to give you an idea of just how many lights were talking about. the state has 1000 light fixtures pumping out 1,500 w. there are nine towers and each of them, you can see in the picture there are 150 up to two under and 40 ft. high. that is not considering the parking lot and the concession lighting. you can see why everything got dark when a transformer blew outside the stadium. what got >>pam: are the big story, supporting the new eastern stand on the bay bridge. today croustade to weave the support structure that would anchor that portion of the brig. when the bridge is all done caltrans officials said this will be the longest span of its kind in the world. in fact this animation helps to show all

metering lights have been slowed down so much they have actually improved the speed of the upper deck of the bay bridge. first, take a look at how traffic is moving at the s curves. it slows on the way in, but it is actually moving belt--it is really not about twice the speed that it was almost an hour ago. now speaking of downtown san francisco here is a live look at the traffic heading to the city. believe it or not, this is an improvement. much to get past this point, you will find that the speed is much better. take a live look at the ride near candlestick. this is a soft bear traffic in this to the north bound heading up to the city. if you have to get to the east bay there are better

conditions there. here you can see interstate 80's back along be sure freeway. 580 is backed up to the macarthur maze. >>reporter: here in the construction site, crews begin to place the first band of the main cable. >> it works very much like a ski lift. we grabbed the cables wrapped around the back end of the bridge, pullback up around the tower and anchor it. it will take several months to get to the completion of this. >>reporter: for the past couple month the california highway patrol has been conducting a special enforcement effort on the bay bridge. their goal is to get drivers to slow down. they have a concern with the traffic travelling through the s curves that you can see behind me. the speed

limit is 40 miles per hour the chp says that the drivers are going to fast through this dangerous section of the bridge. >>reporter: in and other big story a woman is discover cleaning to live in the oakland estuary. she later died and now the plan to try to figure out who she was, what happened to her and whether or not she was murdered. this is the dress that the woman was wearing when she was discovered by a security person down here at jack london square. the dress is fairly unique. police are hoping that someone will recognize the dress and call to find out the woman's identity. they will use toxicology reports to try and determine how the woman died.
