most locations are sitting in the '50s. as we head into the afternoon we have the potential for sprinkel. as we head into the overnight hours we will continue to seek hadji fault with temperatures in the '30's and 40's. fog tracker 4 shows an area of dense fog north of santa rosa. the majority of the dense fog is stretching along our east shore along the heart of the bay area and into the south bay as well. dense fog from redwood city through mountain view. a dense fog of vice we have not been issued. here is a look at temperatures outside the door. a warm start to the morning. warmer than where we were yesterday. here is a

look at your current temperatures. as we focus on the afternoon we will see temperatures very similar to yesterday, maybe a degree warmer in some locations. satellite and radar shows a lot of what other activities such acquitted in the pacific northwest. we have showers to the north. the cold front is moving closer to the bay area. mostly cloudy conditions and a chance for struggles into the afternoon. for the most

part, and temperatures are in the '60s. a warming trend as we head into next week. the potential for showers does exist this afternoon but very light in nature. less than one-tenth of an inch of rain. saturday and sunday, the cold front will pass through and we will have mostly sunny conditions for 2012 and bore sunshine for the next work week. in the traffic center we are looking live at the bay bridge. and there are no

special advisers for the golden gate bridge. traffic is pretty light. >>justine: to bay area police forces are trading notes and hopes to stop a sexual assault suspect. police say the timing of the attacks, the manner and the clothing are just some of the similarities. alajandra cerball shows us this connection. >>alejandra: police are looking to see if there is a connection between this man and the rates in the mission. this is a sketch released previously by the san francisco police department. in each case the woman are attacked from behind. the victims describe the suspect as wearing a

black hoodie and dark jeans. oakland police do not believe this is the suspect they're looking for because there suspect is shorter and summer. and the other attack the suspect used a knife and is wearing a black ski masks. >>justine: a cold murder case cracked more than a decade after a 21 year-old tunnel woman was killed by her former boyfriend. he is now behind bars. raymond wong was found at sfo last week trying to sneak into the country using a fake passport. keith thompson has the story. >>reporter: 12 years ago a young mother and college student went missing. her body was discovered here, she was shot four times and dumped in the desert. police have always suspected her boyfriend who will now face murder charges with special

circumstances. >> special circumstances have specific to murder for financial gain. >>reporter: investigators say a multimillion-dollar insurance policy had been taken out of his or friend. thus police questioned him but could not make the case until now. after 12 years, what new evidence to police have? they are not saying. police say want tried to throw them all of this trail, trying to lead people to believe the murder was racially motivated. he has also fled the country twice, most recently, the last three years. police say he was living a posh lifestyle in china. >>officer: he is very cocky. someone i would consider arrogance. abel leave that for years he thought he had gotten away with this.

the fog has certainly shifted south fork. compromise visibility down to a mile. along the peninsula, the east shores into the south bay we are seeing compromise visibility. just like yesterday we are experiencing a pretty warm morning. take a look at the temperatures. as we head into the rest of the morning, the 7:00 a.m. hour, everyone is holding on to those '50s. at will break down those numbers neighborhood by

neighborhood. very similar conditions to what we saw yesterday. temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. mountain view could be one of the warmer spots at 62 degrees. 58 for those of you and half moon bay. we will see upper 50s in marin county, 59 expected for those of you in a vallejo this afternoon. we will see sprinkles in the bay area later this afternoon. by 6:00 a.m. it is still sitting offshore. as we advanced the clock closer to 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. it is more widespread, just north of santa rosa. the light

green indicates pretty light rainfall. for the most part we will be drive around the bay area. we're not expecting too much rainfall, maybe a 10th of an inch. for the most part mostly cloudy conditions. as the cold from passes through we will see more sunshine for saturday and sunday and a bit of a warming trend as temperatures reached the upper 60s. we are following a couple of fog advisories. you will certainly want to drive with extra caution. the san mateo bridge, it is difficult to make out lights because the dense fog is situated over the

peninsula. the changeable message signed is there, a live look at the golden gate bridge. we are seeing pretty slick conditions on the roadways. the chp has no major accidents reported for the right coming out of the north bay. >>justine: a clean middle school teacher accused of molesting a child pleaded not guilty. he was arrested earlier this month. police say he confessed to the crime in jail. a man suspected of running over a teenager and vacaville is behind bars this morning. the boy is still recovering in hospital. he turned himself in after seeing the story in a newspaper and is now out on $15,000 bail. in the south bay, a mother accused of throwing her baby

from a second story window remains in the hospital. she was scheduled to be arraigned yesterday but that has been postponed. police say after she threw a 22 month old son from the window, she jumped out after him. the child was barely heard the she broke bones in her feet. it has been another violent year in oakland. a total of 95 homicides for 2010 and even more in 2011. 107 homicides. that number includes five officer: involved shooting deaths. the oakland police chief laid out a plan targeting streets to reduce crime. >> we have been of the lead agency along with current officials, we meet quarterly with the chiefs of the agencies that patrol oakland. we are asking all

of our partners to join us if to make the patrol a priority. >>justine: in january police say they will release a detailed list of where violent crime happens. >>justine: law-enforcement does not want people shooting off guns. they're using a high-tech system to track down people who shoot. some of the different places include san francisco, richmond, oakland, redwood city in the east also. in one case in east hall also, the technology will allow dispatchers to pin for exactly where things are happening and where the gunfire is going off. they

will be able to send officers to the scene to investigate. >> if you shoot of a firearm to celebrate or in an act of aggression, we will know where you are and how many shots were fired. you could be held accountable for that. as we know, a new year's eve, sometimes people consume alcohol. alcohol and firearms is not a good mix. there are a large number of things that can go wrong when you bring out a firearm and to decide to use it. >>justine: police say the program will help them tell the difference between fireworks and gunfire. they also want to stay because of the program they have identified hot spots where gunfire is typically heard during celebrations. police patrol cars will be sent to those areas starting at 6:00 a.m.. other preparations are underway for new year's eve. restaurants and hotels are getting booked and other businesses are getting ready

of dense fog. there are no special dense fogs advisory's. as we head into the afternoon we had a slight chance of sprinkles. most of that will be contained north of the golden gate bridge. we have a sunny and mild holiday weekend with temperatures deck actually reach the upper 60s. more on that in your extended forecast. divisibility chart shows areas of dense fog just north of santa rosa. once you pass petaluma down highway 101 pretty clear conditions through nevada, san rafael and mid-a small valley. the heaviest fog along the peninsula. it looks like the fall will break up closer to the 10:00 a.m. hour. as we focus in on

temperatures, we are off to a warm start. 12 degrees warmer compared to where we were yesterday 52 is the common number for oakland and downtown san francisco. we have actually gained a degrees compared to our last report. into the afternoon, very similar conditions, a little bit of sunshine here and there would temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. mt. view could be i have been mentioning the slight possibility for a sprinkle here or there into the afternoon. it looks like

in the 6:00 a.m. out or we will see something of short to the north of santa rosa. it becomes more widespread along the coastline. as we advance closer to lunch we could see sprinkles. again, really close to the coastline. by 1:00 a.m., maybe it will cross the golden gate, that does not seem to like the. we will see dry conditions as we move closer to the 3:00 a.m. hour. definitely not a wash by any stretch of the imagination. temperatures are sitting in the teens. we do anticipate mostly cloudy conditions for saturday and sunday. the kron47 day around forecast shows

change as the morning wears on. on the bay bridge we did have a fogged advisories but it was listed. from the toll plaza to the island is pretty clear. there is no fog advisory in place however at the san mateo bridge we do have a fogged advisory in place. the changeable message design is active. that is also the case for the dunbar umbrage. those are the only two bridges under advisers this morning. of the golden gate we have fog in the southbound direction and perhaps a little bit of drizzle. it appears we could have a slightly wet deck southbound. the drive times for both of the golden gate bridge and the san mateo bridge are still well below normal because traffic loads are still so light on this holiday week. we will keep

an eye on the fog and illegal know if it becomes a more serious problem. >>mark: besieged the crackdown continues. more than 1000 people have been arrested for driving under the influence. law enforcement agencies are gearing up for more with a new year's weekend. the crackdown started december 16th. half of those arrests were made in alameda county. there were two with 79 arrests in santa clara of and 111 in san mateo county. those counties saw fewer arrests than they did at this time last year. in new here means the new laws in california. new laws are set to take place. january 1st, if your child is 6-7 it is time to get back in a car seat. children in booster seats have to be in those seats have to be there until their eight years old or until there are 4 ft. 9 in.. people younger than 18

are now prohibited from using tanning beds. that removes the ability of those between 14-18 and using those beds without parental consent. shoppers will be barred from purchasing alcoholic beverages using self check out registers at supermarkets and other stores. it's coming up, we will show you more of the california laws that are expected to start in today's. >>mark: there are no layoffs for now. sears holding company which is the parent company of both stores plans to close sears stores. >>will: this sears was scared, at least for now. by the time it is over, sears holdings plans to shut down 120 sears stores and kmart's
